Hugo's Deli reviews
39AMAZING. The Reuben is simply fabulous. Highly recommended for a perfect lunch. Everyone must try this place. Do yourself a favour and get to Hugos!
Cold brew and filter on tap!? HOW ABSOLUTELY MELBOURNE and I am here for it! The wait is so worth and the coffee is next to perfection, the chicken sandwich is so juicy, so tender, shokupan SO SOFT, I am in love with every aspect of this sandwich. In addition to the mortadella! Oh my word, also so damn delicious, incredibly generous portions, most likely because it packs more flavor as mortadella can be such a subtle meat sometimes. Everything about Hugo’s lives up to the hype, will I come back? Absolutely!
A definite must-do of the Melbourne Sandwich scene.
The coffee is consistently great, and the staff are incredibly friendly. I can say that I have now tried every sandwich and would highly recommend each entirely, with “You’ve got muffin to lose” the all-time fave. The Yuzu Spritz is a coffee pick-me-up that I have become obsessed with.
Had been meaning to check this place out for a while now and wow.
Breakfast Muffin with a perfect runny egg, one of the tastiest breakfast sausage patties I've ever eaten, slice of cheese and the sauce. My Lord the sauce, I could write novels about my appreciation of that sauce.
Cold Brew on tap also slaps, they aren't joking with the tasting notes (big toffee, some stone fruit, some other good things)
If you're on Swan street in the morning, do yourself a favour.
Very busy and a cool place. Staff are great problem is I think coz they were busy there was only a couple of slices of beef in my sandwich, compared to my wife’s one which was hefty, a bit annoying that I had to take some out of hers to put in mine. Will try again.
It’s 2pm, cafes are winding down, the traffic is getting heavier, I’m closing down on Hugo’s and yes they could still take my order!
This Reuben is seriously spectacular, the coffee equally as good. Topped of with a decent napkin in the bag and service with a smile. Absolutely worth it and cracks up to be what all the food blogs say. 10/10
Loved the chicken sandwich. Fluffy bread, crispy chicken, fresh lettuce, good sauce. Great chai as well. Service was friendly and pretty quick for the line. Not many seats available, expect to takeaway.
Best sandwich in Melbourne Also best breakfast in Melbourne, cool staff it’s a must try with some of my friends coming across the city to try Hugo’s. Love it
Hands down the best spot in Richmond if not Melbourne for a coffee, sando, or a bit of both. Great staff with great chat too.
Lived in New York city for years but I have to say the sandwiches at HUGO'S are LEGIT, especially the fried chicken sandwich. Top it off with great coffee and amazing service and you have a winner. 10/10 would definitely recommend!
This is a spot that we think is worth the hype! Hugo's Deli serves New York and Japanese inspired sandwiches and coffee in the heart of Richmond.
While the lines can sometimes get long here, especially on weekends, it has generally been okay when we've arrived early (around 10: 30 - 11: 00am). Note that their fried menu items (fried chicken and fried mushroom) start from 10: 30am.
We highly highly recommend their fried chicken sandwich with American cheese on Shokupan bread. The picture says it all really. On occasion, they do a fish sandwich which is only available for the weekend which we hear is incredible, so we are keeping our eyes peeled for that.

I got a tuna melt from Hugo’s deli for lunch recently and it was awful.
The sandwhich was very overpriced and it did not specify that there was onion in the toastie so I ate half and had an instant allergic reaction. I’m really disappointed as I was excited to try Hugo’s, and now I am so unwell. It really should specify on the menu what’s in the sandwhich. My weekend is now ruined, thanks.
The fried chicken sandwich was probably the best tasting one I ever had among the many countries I have visited over the years!
The 4 cheese sandwich was amazingly crunchy and full of flavour. It was toasted to golden brown and looked very tempting.
The coffee was acceptable
I would recommend to anyone and will not be disappointed.
*****
Great coffee and service! Delicious sandwiches with tender and juicy chicken plus the tasty American cheese!
A new little sandwich shop with fantastic sandwiches and sandos. Worth the wait as queue can get very long during weekend.
Try their pork sando or their Reuben, I think I like theirs better than other places that I have tried - no naming here. Personal taste.
Hugo’s Deli definitely a must to visit if you are in the area.
Great coffee and their fried chicken sandwich is a must! I Chicken was super crispy and the shokupan bread is something different!
We have also tried the Reuben and it was delicious.
Staff super friendly, Can’t wait to go back to try their other sandwiches
Nice little deli in Richmond. I had the mushroom sandwich and it was delicious. Can't wait for more vegan/vegetarian options in the future!
Hugo’s Deli is damn good sanga shop bec they use the softest bread - Japanese Shokupan bread. So already they’re not your boring typical sandwich shop.
? Chicken sandwich - One of their most well known sandwiches and wowee, lived to the hype. The BREAD was soft and flavourful and loved how juicy the chicken was. I thoroughly love a sanga that isn’t toasted.
Would go back again!
I stopped in at Hugo's Deli for lunch today and was very pleased with the sandwiches. They were delicious and hit the spot perfectly. The service was friendly and efficient, and the prices were reasonable. Overall, I was very happy with my experience at Hugo's Deli and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a good sandwich.
Hands down THE best mortadella sandwich in the city and most likely the world Would add this sandwich to my death row feast
