The food is nice but do NOT go there with the hope of any descent form of service! Rude af and they really make you feel like you’re annoying. The 3 persons there were sharing 1 personality between all of them. I will never go back!

Food is delicious. The wait staff have the combined personality of soggy cardboard. If I wanted unenthusiastic, rude interactions, I'd get back with my ex husband. Dissapointing service, sterile atmosphere. Would have considered returning for the food. Would rather yeet myself into the sun than return here.

Dumplings were good but main dishes, like squid and seafood and eggplant, were a bit tough and tasteless or oily.

My all time favourite dumpling place whenever visiting Melbourne for years, but tonight the taste is different and not as I remembered it. Not that it is bad, but the signature taste wasn't there anymore for me.

We came here for dinner and unfortunately we were left disappointed. We ordered prawn and chive and vegetarian dumplings and didn’t like either, they both came with very thick and sticky wrappers which were chewy and unpleasant. I have never had dim sum with wrappers like this. We ordered also ordered some noodles and ribs which were average. Not worth the money in our opinion and felt we could have found some better dumplings elsewhere. Staff were nice and service was good though

Disappointment experience today from Prahran restaurant. Food served partially cold. Clearly pre-made frozen fried dumplings not made on the day, possible not made by Hutong. Quality not longer the same like the old days. Will never go again.

Is this the best dumpling experience you can get in town? Probably not. Does it represent the best value for money? Also, doubt it. But I'm not going to blame a restaurant for global economic woes, where prices have gone up everywhere. Overall, our lunch here was fine, and we enjoyed the delicious xiao long bao (could have thinner skin), chillli dumplings (highlight) and Peking duck amongst others. Service was well meant, although can be slightly intrusive. I hope reviewers can be more understanding during these tough times. You may just miss some of Melb eating institutions if they close down.

One of the best Asian restaurants I've been to. So delicious! Also relatively cheap for what you get.

Had a booking for Mothers Day. We arrived and they had given away our table. Manager didn’t apologise, didn’t care and walked off on us mid request to see if they could find us a table. I have never been treated so dismissively at a restaurant. Absolutely shocking.

Went to Hu Tong Dumpling Bar in Prahran for dinner after many many years since my second last visit. Got a few dishes off their menu; their pan fried pork dumplings, fried crispy fragrant duck, steamed barramundi, and sides of Chinese broccoli in oyster sauces and hutong fried rice. Desserts were the banana fritter and black sesame rice balls. This time around I found the food pretty average; the dumplings’ skin was way too thick, the barramundi was not gingery, the fried rice was not that flavourful. The duck was delicious though, tender meat with crispy skin. Desserts were pretty good too; fried banana fritter and ice cream were always a nice combo, and sesame rice balls were served in fragrant fermented rice wine. Service was prompt and friendly, it was a little stuffy inside the restaurant being a busy night that night but it was still pretty cosy overall.

The food was such good quality especially for how fast the dishes came out! The Pork Dumplings where chrisp on the outside and perfectly cooked on the inside. It was to the point we cut the last dumpling in half so we could get more. The noodle dishes were both delicious in their own ways. The Stir Fried Noodles were booming with flavour and had a sticky texture while the Chicken Thick Noodles were filled with veggies and tasted just fabulous.

These people aren't very bright. Ordered two things and they forgot it. Ordered the noodles and the woman lied to me saying it is 5 mins away (girl we know it ain't 5 minutes) and then I asked if it was actually getting maid and she did an ugly face and tried to look cute saying "no" in the most irritatingly baby voice. Then I asked this man for a pina Colada and he even forgot it. Stupid

Tasty, but expensive! Two of us shared the Singapore noodles, Pepper beef with snowpeas and a medium order of Peking duck.

Shocked that a plate of steamed bok choy or brocolli listed for $25, really? What is the point of the crispy skin on the Peking duck, when they pre-wrap the pancakes and put them in a steamer before being brought to the table. All that crispy skin goes soggy and stringy. I would have preferred to fill and wrap my own pancakes and control portion size. A big disappointment!

Service was indifferent and slow. It took 15 minutes for anyone to show up at our table. Lot's of young families at the 5;30 service. It would cost a fortune to feed a family there! Avoid this time slot if looking for an intimate dinner out.

Connected to the Cullen Hotel but not affiliated.

Oh my god this food is so so so good! They had sold out of xlb when we went but everything else was so delicious. Highly recommend the wontons in chilli and the pan fried pork dumplings! Woyld definitely come back here! Upscale atmosphere but still affordable. Great for a date night or a big group of friends!

Very second rate.

We came specifically for the Xiao Long Bao. They had none.

The waiter who showed us to our table almost knocked one of us over in his rush to get away.

No water. Asked for water. One glass was brought. Explained we all wanted water. Got there in the end.

The Mongolian beef was worse than any cheap takeaway I’ve ever had

The fried rice was even worse, honestly an absolute disgrace. The rice had NOT been fried. The two limp, anaemic prawns were both completely cold. Packet peas, corn and carrot and no other spices or ingredients. Absolutely pathetic

The prawn and chive dumplings were nice. The chilli wantons were okay.

Fresh and tasty food. Came out quick and hot. Maybe a little more pricey than other dumpling places however they have a lovely restaurant with comfortable chairs and good service.

Was in last night with my parents, food was not horrendous but nothing special, however found 3 staff extremely rude.waitress snapped at us while clearing the table, waiter was passive aggressive and asked us to leave so he could clear the table while 3 other tables were still finishing up their meals

Food isn’t too bad. The worst is a 10% surcharge for dining in on a weekend.
I can understand public holidays due to penalty rates, but a normal weekend is a bit much.

Go to pacific house in Richmond. Better food, cheaper food, no weekend surcharge.

Peace

Disappointing experience tonight, the Xiao Long Bao was raw inside. Please make sure you check your Xiao Long Bao when eating it! Ours were completely raw in the middle. I notified the waitress, she removed the reamining 4 pieces as well as my raw one and brought back another serving (cooked through). No apology, no acknowledgement and no discount offered at the end of the meal. The meal felt rushed and not to the ususal Hutong standard.

Last Saturday I had interstate visitors and as a group of 11 we went to Hu Tong Dumpling Bar without a booking and much to our luck after a small wait we were provided with a private dining area and had the most wonderful food along with service. The pork buns and Mongolian beef were my top picks, but I would recommend all the food. We are plenty and it was really quite cheap for a nice dining experience and delicious food. Can't wait to go back! Thank you
