29 Lack of customer service. I had a debit card to be delivered to the branch and I would go and pick it up. The branch does not ring you and inform you when it's there. They expect you have a crystal ball.
I have now taken my savings out of HSBC and gone to another bank
I opened an account at HSBC Melbourne Swanston Street branch and have had to go to the branch 4 times in the last 2 months and every time my wait time has only been a few minutes and the estaff have been extremely helpful. As I am British and I have the need to bring in GBP into Australia HSBC is the only high street bank that offers this service in Australia and it was totally pain free. It is a really refreshing to go to a bank that is willing and able to help their customers.
Deposit ATM outside doesn’t work most of the time. Staff won’t allow customers to use the ATM inside due to security reason but they clearly still have a few customers inside. Treating their own customers like thefts. Can’t be more frustrating

Worst experience ever! The waiting time is too long and they are doing things extremely slowly.
Currently siting in the HSBC lobby furiously typing this review. 40+mins wait just to deposit some cash. Only 1+1/2 staffs at the counter during the busiest time of the day. There are 10 ppl waiting and more coming. Non of the staffs are wearing a name badge, I wonder why:)
The dude serving me have no smile on his face, talking in monotone as if I owe him something.
I mean, come on! Hire more decent staff.

Listen to the other reviews before trying to bank here. Atrocious wait times even when not busy. Waited two hours for ID verification, was told I was next in line for Thomas and then he disappeared. Waited another half hour and gave up. I wouldn’t trust them with a dime of my money.
Doesn’t even deserve one star. Staff are idling and are generally uninterested in working. Completely mismanaged store. The receptionist is chit chatting among the staff and with a familiar client. The operations really need work. As a premier customer, the wait was an hour long with no follow through. One of the worst operations I’ve encountered. A blunder for the brand that HSBC aspires to be.
Put more staff on at lunchtimes. Still waiting to be served after 45mins. I am on my lunch break and can’t wait hours to be served.

It was disappointing service. I spent two hours there for the conclusion that I cannot deposit USD I received from my parents' savings and asking evidence of income source. He retired 10 years ago and it was difficult to find the previous paper-based payslips that was kept overseas. I am a medical doctor here and made me feel like they're questioning my integrity unnecessarily. After 2 hours wait, I received a horrible service and no job was done. Such a complete waste of my time. The staff was polite and working hard. It was HSBC policy that is wrong that making it very inconvenient for the customers.
Just want to deposit some foreign dollars and waited 30 minutes before being served. This is ridiculous. Hire more people!
Do not bother coming to this branch, waited for a while when there was no single other clients. Completely ignored, think the staff are better then clients. If i can put 0 star i would!
Worst experience ever, took more than 30mins just for a bank cheque and asked me to re-sign and re-sign for their mistakes.

I have a mixed review (the bank is weird and the online banking is horrific), however I have received the best customer support from Gabriel Wang in this branch. I really felt cared for in my complicated issue. I highly recommend this exceptional professional! Truly this bank only survives the competition because of 2 reasons: Gabriel and chinese speaking staff:) Thank you Gabriel again! It means a lot for me!
I am very pleased with HSBC in every country I have lived as they manage international moves easily, it's a real relief to have their support.
In addition the personel at the Melbourne branch is very friendly.
