Hotel Esplanade reviews
55 Iconic place, visited over the years in it's many guises.
It is still a great place to have a drink and a bite to eat.
The espy kitchen is very different from the good old days when it seemed it was in a dingy basement with decent affordable food and a bottle of frascati, with it's wicker base and faux wire wrapping the bottle, to wash it all down before venturing up to watch a show.
Went to dance at night and got there at 9: 30pm and was already packed to the brim! Also was confused as there was no clear signage for the bathrooms. Drinks were a bit pricey too but that's normal for Melbourne in general.
Woaahh! This place is one of it’s kind. Amazing music, Dancfloor and service. What else do you need to go back to this place. My fav in melbourne
A great venue that most Melbournians have memories of from way back when.
Restored to preseve its heritage charm it really deserves a look in if you are local.
Great tapped beer selection and a better than average menu.
When Melbourne
turns on a sunny day, the Espie really does remain the place to be.
The place is decent but slightly overrated. Food menu is a bit small and the overall place needs redecorating, starting to look a little run down on the paint work and flooring etc. I’d come back for the views
One of the least welcoming venues if you don't fit the certain look the venue wants.
One of the security team (Prime Security) grabbed my arm out of nowhere to try to talk to me which I did not appreciate in the slightest.
Skip this venue if you can even if you're there to see a band you want to see - it's simply not worth it.
It's got a vibe, it's eclectic, great music, food was perfect, cocktails delicious and the different levels added to it's mystery. ALL staff were friendly, efficient and competent - and it was a busy footy finals night.
Beautiful old Hotel Esplanade. Quite a few changes have occurred over the last decade here and while some of them hurt my sentimental heart a little bit they were all necessary. She looks magnificent!
The chicken burger was awful. I was at the footy beforehand and had a bite of my nephew’s chicken there. The chicken at Marvel Stadium is far more tasty than at the Espy. Yucky, never again.
Holly is an absolute legend! She went above and beyond to make sure I got a drink I liked and she did not let me down! Make sure you go see Holly next time you’re at the espy!
Awesome location with a fantastic view of the bay and sun setting. Many different food menus depending on what you feel like and how formal or casual as there are different areas within the one pub. Also the option of live music but haven’t been to a gig there. A star lost cause it’s expensive in my opinion especially the bar menu. Can get really busy as well.
The Espy's reno has maintained it's soul but cleaned up the interior to make this a place you actively want to go. It caters to many crowds, the gig seekers, the footy watchers, the group of friends who want an outing. It's an iconic venue that has kept up with the times. We had the lobster roll and it was delicious. A well-rounded venue.
I can’t fault this place. I just love it. I’ve been to every level for different events and loved the food, drinks and vibe.
Loved the vibes of this place! There's so many different venues all in one location but we visited the espy kitchen at the back.the service was super attentive and the fish was incredibly fresh.highly recommend trying the cheesecake donut!
Love the Espy, a St Kilda icon, made even better by the friendly staff, awesome views, and endless choice of food and drink options.
Yes we all know Espy is the place to be for it’s great gigs & weekend drinks. However, if the establishment is trying to do the whole “scan your QR code” system. Make sure we can order our drinks through the bloody QR, because the link did not allow me & my mates to make our purchase. So, Espy loses money. Time to blame the bloke or gal who came up with the idea for the bartenders not to take orders from the bar in person & instead rely on a useless QR link that doesn’t even work!
To summarise, a digital attempt backfired! =
I get why they are doing the QR code ordering from the table but they need to back it up with good service when they deliver your order. Pretty perfunctory and not the Espy feel. Even didn't bother to take the empty glasses.
Great customer service, wonderful coffee and those burgers are magical!
Atmosphere is cozy, inviting and clean.
Toilets are clean.
Definitely worth a visit!
Tristan on the main bar - what can I say.
How refreshing to experience your incredible service. Knowledgeable, attentive and personable.
Helped us to decide what we needed without even trying. You are an absolute credit to this establishment!
Left a girl outside without her phone or wallet and wouldn’t let her back in to get them or find her friends (who she was meant to be leaving with) leaving me and someone else who didn’t know her to look after and try to get her home, really poor effort leaving this girl outside alone with no way home (p.s. We ended up sorting it out and getting her home safe so no need to worry but very bad from the staff there)
