HongDae Korean Restaurant & Bar reviews
18 First of all, their kimchi is AMAZING! Do yourself a favour & ask the server for more
We got the beef bulgogi (which comes with rice), spicy tofu soup and the seafood pancake. Wanted to get the individual eomuk but was told they didnt sell it anymore lol.
Beef bulgogi was amazing - highly recommend. Seafood pancake was surprisingly good - I’m not usually a fan of the thicker style of korean pancakes but this was wonderfully crunchy & seafood bits were generously added. Spicy tofu soup tasted slightly off ngl like, it’s not bad but it just didn’t taste like how spicy tofu soup is supposed to lol but still greatly appreciated during the cold melbourne night
they serve plain water, and offer 10% discount if you pay with cash so
5/5 food
5/5 atmosphere
5/5 service
Really enjoyed everything! Definitely coming back
Decent Korean restaurant. We tried spicy Chicken feet, which were yummy and not too spicy so I like it because I can’t take too much spice. Sizzling chicken giblets was a bit too bland, rice balls were ok.
Watermelon soju was good, and i haven’t see other restaurants do it like this before! Service can be better.
Fantastic place for dinner, and late night supper. Food was really noticeable when it came out — the smell was fantastic and hit the nose straight away; particularly the soondubu (Soft Tofu Stew). We also ordered the fried chicken, seafood pancake, buckwheat noodles, steamed eggs, and they were all great.
Particularly worth mentioning, the customer service was fantastic! Our host for the night, Alex, was super attentive — getting us cutlery to replace one that we accidentally dropped without us even mentioning it, and accomodating us when it came to table setting as well! The rest of the friendly staff team were also very helpful, and made it really worth mentioning!
Korean-style izakaya in the heart of Melbourne
Open until 1: 30 am
It’s a good choice for dinner gatherings and late-night snacks.
The store is not bright, it is dim to enhance the atmosphere.
There are various types of meals and drinks
All meals in the store are ready to eat
Food delivery is very fast and customers will not go hungry
Very suitable for friends who don’t want to do barbecue
I am very full
-
favorite is
Spicy pork belly, seafood plate, sweet and spicy boneless Korean fried chicken
These three dishes are very attractive to me and I want to come back again.
The former will come with lettuce, pickles, and pickled onions.
Then wrap the meat together, refreshing and relieving greasiness
Rich texture, rinse your mouth without any burden
Hongdae seafood plate
Large portion, suitable for sharing between 2-3 people
The variety of food is also very good
Fried food, salmon sashimi, bratwurst, salad, etc.
The sashimi is fresh and thick, full of happiness
Sweet and Spicy Boneless Korean Fried Chicken
Suitable for 2-3 people to eat together
The sauce is flavorful and generous
Not too spicy, just the right bite size
The spicy and sweet taste reverberates in your mouth, bite after bite
There is a salad on the side to relieve the fatigue, a bite of chicken with salad
Very interesting
Kimchi pancake, Korean kimchi hot pot (white rice needs to be ordered separately)
They are all delicious, but a bit ordinary compared to the previous three dishes.
This is a restaurant I would like to visit again next time I want to eat Korean food.
Avg 3.5/5 Food portion is okay but some are salty like the chicken feet and soy sauce fried chicken. THe fried chicken was put in a closed plastic box made them soggy when delivered (most restaurant will use paper box instead)
Staff are super friendly and service fantastic. Food so delicious and well flavoured. Definitely will come back. Great work guys
This spot serves up an authentic & delish range of Korean dishes at affordable prices! We’ve tried the fish cake and Korean pork noodle soup (which are so perfect for current Melbourne weather), massive platter with juicy pork belly & a variety of seafood for $65@ only, and the crispy Korean fried chicken
Great place to hang out with a few friends for food and drinks. Super friendly staff and owner. Attentive service and very yummy food! Would definitely return again!
Their foods are authentic. Their portions are very big with reasonable price. The staff are very friendly.
What we ordered
Pork belly Platter
Volcano Mala Pork belly soup. ️
Fruit Bingsu
Hibiscus highball
Earl grey highball
We had a group of 12 in on a Saturday night, luckily they have an area big enough for us all to eat together. The service was great and the food was delicious! Well priced too. Highly recommend and will be back!
Wonderful spot to dine in late at night. The staff were very hospitable, the location was cozy, and the food was absolutely delicious. Lots of options to choose from and the fried chicken was hot and crispy. Would love to visit again.
I think this relatively new restaurant was quite average overall. Kind of surprised because there are many Korean restaurants in Melbourne these days and the competition is crazy.
The quality of foods needs a bit of improvement as they tend to me lukewarm and of meh quality (especially considering the price tag). The quantity was heaps tho.
On the positive, they had a great variety of alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages.
It'd be good for the people craving for some night snacks / supper and alcoholic beverages.
Great service from Alex, amazing food, drinks, and atmosphere. Would highly recommend if you enjoy Korean food or drink
One of the best Korean restaurants in Town.
Special platter and Soondooboo stew is a must try, perfect match with ice cold soju.
Definitely return back again to try other dishes too.
Excellent food, super easy to order, staff were amazing, very quick arrival of meals. The atmosphere was very nice.
Spent a good evening with friends. 10/10 would eat again.
The service was amazing! The workers there are super nice and kind but the best part about the experience was the food! The meals were so delicious I enjoyed it soo much. I would 100% recommend. Would go again!
We had Hongdae plate and Korean pork noodle soup for dinner. The plate had variety of flavours and meat including spicy fried chicken which all of us enjoyed. Korean pork noodle soup had rich soup with pork belly and was perfect for cold night. We did take away garlic pork belly for my son and in law which they really enjoyed texture and flavour. The second floor of the restaurant is very spacious so it will be great for group booking. They also have variety of drink including tap beers, soju cocktails and tradotional Korean rice wine.
