Hochi Mama Richmond

Great place! Been wanting to go here for a little while now, as it was a recommendation from a work friend. As first timers, we tried the feed me now option which included 2 entrees, 2 mains and a side to share, which is more than enough. We were super full by the end of it, ended up getting takeaway.

Satay chicken was amazing, definitely get it, super tender and juicy. Baos were also really nice. We did make a mistake of getting too much fried food, which made our mains a little sickening, we probably should’ve gone with something fresher. The dishes were nice in isolation, but we were relatively full by then.

Overall nice place! Go there for lunch if you prefer a more quiet atmosphere.

Went to Hochi Mama and asked for gluten free and vegetarian options. Was so pleased at how accommodating the staff were! We had the banquet and they made sure everyone was looked after. The food was fantastic and the drinks were amazing!

Hochi Mama is a super popular Vietnamese Fusion restaurant, well-known for its contemporary sharing menus and good vibes. They now have two locations in the CBD and Richmond, both are funky, bold and covered in artwork.

The best option to go for here is their Feed Me menu which includes 2 Small, 2 Large and 1 Side between two people, for any additional people you add 1 more of each. It is super affordable at only $42.50pp for dinner, everyone on the table must participate and they have a limit of 5 people. Any more than that must order the banquet.

The entrees were all delicious and were our favourite dishes of the night, especially the Roast Duck Wontons. Sadly everything else was sub-par. The Pork Belly was really crispy but bland, the slaw was really small and not enough for the 3 to share. The Fried Chicken and the Soft Shell Crab Rice both lacked seasoning (The crab itself was great). The roti wasn’t nice and flakey. We felt a lot of the dishes looked better than they tasted and were carried by a sauce rather than complimented by it. Also be aware that you might find their dishes really spicy

I rarely dislike a Margarita but theirs is lethal, the cocktails here really pack a punch. We asked them to exchange these for another which they kindly did, the Tokyo Drift and Lycheezy were both really nice.

Marketed as a restaurant to come with a group to dine and catch up, I really don’t believe 90 minutes is a suitable seating time considering the amount of food you get. You will not get a minute extra, our time was up before we could even finish our meals.

Overall I give them points for their entrees, the vibe, value and the service. It is a place to eat and go. I also have to add that all three of us were sick overnight from the dinner. A lot of people really enjoy this restaurant however we all found it to be a little overhyped.

Went as a group of 4 when the weather was not great, after booking offered to move the time/day to get us inside as we had an outdoor booking, which was just really considerate and unexpected that they would go out of their way to offer the options.
Ended up going at the regular booking, weather gods looked after us and we’re treated to amazing food, great/quick service, and so reasonably priced. Highly recommend the friend chicken, beef rib and pork belly bao.

Great food! The only downside was the requirement to eat from the predetermined banquet because we were a group of 7.

Hoci Mama is a great restaurant with a beautiful ambience and fitout. Very new age, hip, fun and great food! Service is quick and friendly. The menu is beautiful and designed to be shared with lots of seafood and vegetarian options. They also have a great day priced feed me option too which is plenty. The drinks list is on point with great wine, cocktails and more. Definitely visit with friends or perfect for a date meal too

The meal was delicious and filling. The restaurant was happy to accommodate dietary requirements as much as possible (for example limiting garlic and onion in some dishes for us for a low FODMAP requirement). The feed me option was good value for money and I will be back to try more options.

We had the banquet meal because we came in with a somewhat large group. Most of the dishes were really good.

Visited this place January 2021 to celebrate one of my friend’s birthday dinner I suggested this place because I haven’t been to and we are all surprised how amazing the food was. From entree, mains and dessert everything is so amazing good value for money it was five of us and we all tried our best to finish the food. Second visit was May 2021 to celebrate my birthday and still the quality of food is really good we had the same banquet menu from the last time but because it’s only for 3 people the food was ok it’s not over flowing in the table, we all enjoy and finished the food. My last visit was November 2021 with all my workmates after the lockdown we all love the food we enjoyed our quick lunch before work. I guess it’s always good to go with group of 4 people and above because more people the more dish you can try when you’re on a banquet. I really love going to this place and I always recommend this place to all my friends if they want to get affordable, super tasty meal and to mention great ambiance and music. (I love their Beyoncé/Destiny’s Child playlist at night) ️️️

One of my favourite places in Richmond. Always busy. The food is very flavoursome. The baos are great and the Massaman is excellent.

My sister and I had a birthday dinner for 15 people at Hochi Mama Richmond and cannot speak highly enough about Fraser and the crew at Hochi! They couldn’t have been more accomodating and personable, it felt like we were family and they even threw in a birthday surprise. The food was also amazing (goes without saying at Hochi) as were the cocktails. We had the very best time and it was a night to remember, thanks to the guys for accommodating us. Can’t wait to go back to do it again ️

They didn't disappoint with their second store. The fitout is awesome, really great casual dining space. Killer atmosphere and great food. Make sure you guys check it out.

Menu is limited (most of what i wanted to order was only available at the CBD location) everything else was fine.

Sad to give this place a bad review but their handling of allergies was infuriating. Items on their shellfish-free menu have oyster sauce in them, which was only mentioned as an afterthought once they had been ordered (specifically because we thought they were shellfish free!). Other food was fine, but wasn't exactly a fun experience.
