Higher Ground reviews
74Food is amazing as is the coffee. The place is busy most of the time so fairly loud. There are also birds flying everywhere which three food around amongst other things. Overall, a really great cafe.
Higher ground experience isn’t the same anymore. Their service and ambience is great but the food not as much.
I love my ricotta pancake. The serving was just so much for one person - I cannot finsih it! For $25+, it is worth it because it is good for 3 people. Service was a bit slow for me. I was sitted promptly but it took at least 10 minutes for a dining staff to take my order. The place was also quite busy.
The mushrooms toast was probably the best I've ever tried (with a mix of 3 kinds of mushrooms).
They offer soy milk at no extra charge, perfect for our Matcha latte and hot chocolate.
While there you can enjoy the architecture of this converted wharehouse, including the discreet concrete pillars supporting the sky scraper above. You also have a full view of the open kitchen.
My recent visit left me with mixed feelings, to say the least. While the cafe's reputation precedes it, I couldn't help but feel that it's been seriously overrated. From the service to the overall experience, my companions and I were left underwhelmed and somewhat disappointed.
Let's start with the service, or should I say, the lack thereof. It's disheartening to say that our interaction with the waitstaff was far from pleasant. While we finished our food but still coffee to finish, the waitress approached our table, demanding payment and essentially making it clear that they wanted us out. This not only felt rushed but also incredibly impolite. There was no queue or waiting customers in sight. Her approach was brusque and lacked the warm, welcoming demeanor that is expected in such establishments.
Additionally, the waitress took it upon herself to inquire if we wanted any additional food or drinks, which came across as pushy. It was evident that they were more interested in turning over tables than ensuring a relaxed, enjoyable experience for their patrons.
In summary, the overrated aura surrounding was not matched by the quality of their service, coffee, or overall hospitality. It's a shame when high expectations are met with such a lackluster experience. If you're looking for a cozy and leisurely cafe outing, I'd suggest exploring other options in the area.
Absolutely stellar Brunch. In my experience it’s rare to have a place this hip be so friendly. The hostess, My, was particularly wonderful, as was Alex. Get the Spanner Benedict. Best Crab Benedict I’ve had yet!
Got a chai latte that was warm, not hot. The Cafe was packed inside and it's a beautiful place. Would go back another time to try again, but it is quite expensive.
I came here for coffee/tea. The matcha was strong and not too sweet. However, it was expensive -$7 for a small cup.
The setting is beautiful - chic, airy and natural vibes. It's the kind of place I'd take visiting friends to but not the sort of place I'd make my own regular haunt.
Lovely place for grabbing a quick and delicious breakfast with your work colleagues! The eggs on toast is 10/10, I highly recommend it!
What a memorable location! Higher Ground is a venue like no other, and we absolutely love coordinating with their staff to produce amazing events. We really look forward to working together in the future as do our artists.
Great spot in the CBD for coffee and food. Big space and really handy if you need to be at Southern Cross Station. Best place for coffee and food nearby.
The food was extremely over priced, the portions were small and the quality was lacking considering the price. We ordered the ricotta hot cake with the meal being 60% seeds and grains, (I ordered hot cakes not seeds and grains). We also ordered the avo and sweet corn meal which we paid $6 extra for chorizo and were given 4 small pieces, the meal was mostly what seemed to be canned corn which costs 60c from the supermarket and cut up avocado. Unfortunately we left higher ground cafe very hungry and will not return anytime soon.
The staff weren’t very friendly either.
Beautiful venue but by far the worst service I’ve experienced at a Melbourne cafe. The staff took forever to take our order, didn’t take the initiative to clear the table after seeing there was barely any space to place the food from the empty coffee mugs sitting there, forgot to bring cutlery and then brought out the wrong cutlery and never returned with the right ones. It’s such a shame the service is so poor because the venue is so nice and I would’ve loved to go back.
The place is amazing with a lots of amazing plants on display everywhere in the venue. The food was average for the expectation of a famous venue like that, the service was a bit disappointing as we have ask one dish without salmon egg and the other dish without bacon so we could be able to share, we didn’t get our dish without those condiment so we ended up not sharing as they were really busy and hard to ask for anything else.
Here’s the small size of the latte from Higher Ground cost you $4.2.
Only 3/4 cup and the staff told me that space is for extra shot.
As I didn’t ask for extra shot, why don’t you just fill up the cup?
Anyone who wants a 3/4cup coffee to start your day, I would definitely recommend this famous shop for you.
I absolutely love this place!
The vibe is amazing. This place is always packed and I recommend to booking prior. We went on a Friday night around 8 pm. It was packed with people already. We ordered some beer, wine and bread. For main course fish and beef. The food is not vegan friendly however, there are limited options.
I would highly recommend this place
I had one of the tastiest brunches in Melbourne. Food is delicious! Friendly stuff and good service. The place feels very cozy inside:)
Thank you!
Came here with a friend to have coffee but also ordered a chocolate croissant! It was amazing+ Great atmosphere #Harold&Kumar
Had the $70 banquet and it was very nice. The only downside was that the service was very slow from entree to next meal. Had to wait almost an hour. The ambience and grandness was awesome and would be coming again soon.
Great food and drinks, beautiful place too… however they were so extremely busy that was no customer service happening. We were basically invisible seating at the table waiting for so long and no waitress would come. We had to ask to be serviced and make orders of drinks and food.
