Hi Chong Qing (Hi CQ) reviews
61 Service amazing, I was served very nicely.
I asked for the signature with beef.
Very little meat for $5 but amazing flavour.the food is amazing. I would recommend the noodles by themselves
I asked the original flavour and now I am sweating but I love it
Sorry for the picture, I remember to take one too late haha
Simply amazing noodles in Melbourne. This place is definitely going in my top 3 noodle places. Cheap, delicious, warming and you can order for vegetarians. I had the signature noodles vegetarian version with added Tofu and egg. Staff are nice and helpful. I’ll be coming back to this place again and again.
Delicious vegan/ vegetarian noodles with tofu and chickpeas. I’m Chinese, and this is authentic stuff!
Got the chongqing spicy beef noodle for $18.63. Broth was underseasoned and rather bland despite eating mouthfuls of the firey soup in conjunction. Accompanying beef shank was blissfully tender although occasional bites were dry and chalky. Will get the signature noodles in the future, others have echoed the blandess of the spicy noodles.
I used to get xiao mian all the time when I lived in China, and it's my absolute fav. This place hits the spot. Had the signature dish (dry style) and highly recommend it.
Super cute little hidden gem in Carlton! A lot of people go here for work lunch or after work dinner. The noodles come out fast and are super tasty! Great and reasonably priced too!
I opted for the Signature Noodles with added pork. Delicious!
Highly recommend.

Perfect little hideout in Orr Street. Go.you won't regret it! I'll add pics on my return.
This is my favorite noodle store in Melbourne, everything is so perfect. It's a very close store to our office, which makes dining easy with a beautiful taste. The noodles are very authentic Chongqing flavor, the brisket is very soft and bit sweet, and the flavor is very delicate with the cabbage buried underneath the noodles adding a different layer to the entire experience. I really like their chili pepper, it's a kind of fried chili pepper, which gives the whole bowl of noodles a soul, followed by the Chinese snow cabbage, which is a rare Chinese vegedish here in Melbourne, almost the highlight of the noodles and a garnish!
We dined as a family of 6 and loved it. All our dishes were very flavourful. We had 'no spice' up to 'original spice' which was hot enough for us Kiwis.
Headphones not ours - thank you!
I was happy to discover this place by accident! I ordered the Signature CQ noodles with beef ($18.63) and it was very good. The pork soup base was simply delicious. The beef was juicy and along with that a good portion of noodles. If only this place was more known to people and on the streets. I'm a fan of this place. Great staff to recommend you as well!
I love Hi Chong Qing. The broth is flavoursome and soothes the soul. The addition of peanuts add texture and a flavour bomb. Their signature noodles with pork mince and original spice always lifts my spirits. I highly recommend dining here.
Excellent food. Owner went out of his way to explain food, dietary and spice options.
Definitely on the regular list when in Melbourne!
Obsessed with this place! I get the signature noodles with added tofu every time and it’s always delicious. I find “less spicy” to be enough for spice level. The place is very low-key but great service and quality. It’s very good value, you get heaps of noodles in one serving. Highly recommend!
One of the best noodle places in Melbourne! The less spice option is just right. The soup is so tasty. The beef is so tender.
This small family run joint with a husband and wife team have battled through the pandemic and continued to serve us great quality Chong Qing style noodles.
I've tried all their dishes and I rate them all. The broths are quite unique here. Beef and tendons are always really tender. Pork mince has a bit of wok hei on it. It just depends what dish you order. All the flavours are pretty different.
The restaurant is small, but it can be busy when the students are around. They aren't back till March, so I'd say make the most of the quiet time and grab a bowl of noodles with your buddies.
Prices are reasonable, food is great. Make their day and go and say hi.
Came in on my lunch break and had the signature noodles. Asked for mild spice and it was perfect level, food came out super fast, definitely coming again.
Didn't know that meat wasn't included in the meal - you need to add it as an additional topping. But otherwise, good feed.
The tastiest noodle soup in Melbourne. Delicious combination of spice and rich flavour (signature noodles). Friendly staff and quick service. A must visit!
A must try. Here you will find outstanding noodles in the best broth you will find in Melbourne. The richness and depth of flavour is mind blowing without being overbearing. Such good balance. When I ordered multiple bowls, including one for our little girl (number 4, no spice! Which she loved) the guy suggested we stage the noodle bowls to ensure the noodles aren’t left sitting in the hot broth too long, compromising there texture - he had me sold on that show of such dedication to serving an amazing meal perfectly executed.
Also love the spicy kick they pack at standard level. Go original level spice only if you are comfortable with a bit of heat. Note it is not yet a licensed venue, so save the beer for afterwards. Once you’ve taste the noodles you’ll soon forget about the beer ;)
I didn’t personally like my noodles because I’m from Chongqing, born and raised and this tasted nothing remotely like Chongqing noodles from home. Very bland and oily, no fragrance of the chilli (没有香味和辣味), not spicy either even though I orders extra spicy.
However it’s great for aussie taste, or someone beginner to Chongqing noodles. The noodles and beef were tasty in texture. The server was very friendly and smiley. Service was fast. Husband (who’s Aussie) loved his vegetarian noodles.
