Hemingway's Wine Room reviews
42I don't understand how this place has such good reviews.the website make this place look charming and cool. I came for the oyster and champagne special with a friend and we were the only people in the place, the service was not great considering there was no one else to serve.and the vibe was totally off. What a weird experience
A very good place. Saturday lunch and was very quiet. I was concerned as quite often under those conditions all can go lazy in both the kitchen and front of hose. But they remained excellent in all ways, attentive, friendly, knowledgeable, good wine range, food very good, and If I was local would return often. Thank you
What a great dinning experience. Great wine list. We spent a couple of days in the area to soak up the pre AFL Grand Final atmosphere. Final evening dinner was superb. Thank you Hemingway's Wine Room.
My wife and I came here for our 1 year anniversary. The food was amazing 10/10, the waitress we had was so lovely and kind, she made our night even more special.
We attended for a birthday, for the 3course long boozy lunch. This was a let down unfortunately, for a few reasons.
The wine selection isn't great, no sparking, champagne or rosè. They had scribbled out with a pen, all of the wine not available. (Print a new menu)
Entrees were quite nice although they took more than a hour to arrive. (Noting only 1 other table of 2 in the venue).
Mains - 8/9 were overcooked- my duck especially was so dry I couldn't eat it. Dessert - The Brulee was nice.
Due to the food taking so long to come out, they ended the drinks package before we had recieved all of our courses. We were told we could pay for extra wine while we waited for our last course.
Overall, a let down, staff were nice but slow for service, no atmosphere in the place. There is definitely potentially but lots of tweaks to fix.
Came here a couple of times now, the food is extremely delicious and the staff was very friendly. Would recommend here to anyone who plans on having a classy dinner with a great ambience.
This place only opens for lunch and dinner but the ambiance is nice and staffs are friendly. Exceptional service from the whole team, with prompt greetings and follow-ups.
The food was excellent, well cooked and tasty.
Wide selection of drinks available.
Open kitchen and well designed dining room led to a nice atmosphere. A higher end experience that's well worth a try. Perfect for family and friends for all occasions. +
We found this place by luck after leaving the MCG. We arrived within an 30 minutes of their closing time. There was one other group in the room when we arrived. We were greeted with warmth and positivity by the young staff member and he politely informed us they were near closing time. He encouraged us to take a seat and said there was plenty of time for a night cap.
My wife had a mojito, her favorite cocktail, the recipe and ingredients used made this her best ever one. I had a neat whiskey from their extensive wine and spirit menu.
An enjoyable experience and location I would encourage anyone leaving an event near by to pop in on the way home, you won’t be disappointed.
Great ambience.
I absolutely loved the French music playing.
Even asked the waitress about the music.
Beautiful quaint place. Loved it.
Oysters were fabulous for the price.
Next time I am in Melbourne.go again!
Staff were amazing!
Leisurely lunch at @hemingwayswineroom_ the other day.
Got their Prix Fixe menu, 2 courses for $69. All the entrees looked so droolworthy! There were octopus, citrus roasted beetroots, charcuterie but in the end I chose the salmon gravlax which was super fresh.
Continuing my seafood theme I got the very tender whole grilled calamari, with seafood bisque. I just wish there were more bread on offer to mop allllll the seafood bisque off my plate
Great value on the oysters & champagne mid-week special, which is a great gateway drug to a night of fine dining.
Was disappointing when time came to pay the bill and they didn’t take AMEX. For such a fine dining restaurant and what would appear right within AMEX’s sweet spot, they’ve clearly cheaped out on not wanting to get slogged by their fees.
I suspect they’ll lose a ton of business clientele (including me) since my company card is only AMEX.
Classic example of not cheaping out when you’re trying to offer a fully catered for dining experience….
Sorry to say, not a great night out at Hemmingways. I guess the fact that we were the only group in the resturant on Saturday Night begs the question. The lamb cutlet, was changed to Lamb Loin and then a lamb chop arrived. Vegies arrived without garlic and toasted almonds! Im really not sure this resturant is ready for a top 10 slot, and certainly not worth the $300+ for 2 paxs.
Sadly this was not the great experience I had had once before over a year ago. Chef has changed several time since as has management recently.
Tonight we were 1 of only 2 tables dining. The cocktail although beautifully presented was rather short on alcohol and with an iceball filling 2/3 of the glass, very overpriced. The Confit duck was overcooked, under seasoned and the accompanying duck breast demonstrably missing from the dish. Staff are clearly still in training and were not aware of menu changes until orders were taken and then had to be re-taken. Lastly coffee was weak and watery. Such a shame as we'd enjoyed a fabulous lunch a year earlier.
Such an incredible experience. The restaurant is so beautiful inside and the food is incredible.the cocktails are strong but so smooth.amazing time overall, will be back for their saturday menu!
A cosy restaurant with lux leather chairs in the restaurant section. A fave of my husband and I for mid week date night. The perfect treat with scrumptious food and beautiful wine.
We loved this experience, the service was so considered and timely, the food was seriously delicious and a great wine list. Plus parking was easy and it’s 5 minutes into the CBD, what’s not to like on the whole experience. We’ll definitely be back
This is definitely our favourite Melbourne restaurant! Have been here several times over the past 3 years, lunch and dinner, and also their fabulous delivered meals during lockdowns. The ambience is perfect, delicious food beautifully presented and the best wine list. And the amazing lunch deal of $48 for 2 courses and a glass of wine (chosen from the wine list) is the best value.
Our first time visiting Hemmingway's, the experience we got was exceptional.
From the greeting at the door, to the fabulous service and great food. Coming from the Hospitality industry myself and dealing in fine dining experiences. These guys know what they are doing and do it well.
I highly recommend hemmingways Wine room for that something special, Not just an ordinary restaurant, but a fine Classy restaurant.
Thank you for your hospitality.
I can't offer you a photo that would do justice to the 2 dozen oysters we scoffed, but I can assure you that they were superb with a simple and delicious vinaigrette. Washed down with champagne and an Australian botrytis riesling made for a perfect romantic interlude for the love of my life and I. Ambience was great, service attentive - we look forward to coming back to try the full menu.
Outstanding service - professional, warm, unobtrusive. And the food! Amazing. The lamb dish in particular a standout. Brilliant selection of wines by the glass also. Thank you for a lovely afternoon.
