Hellenic Museum reviews
41Gorgeous building full of amazing Hellenistic archaeological peices that is sure to arouse the Indiana Jones in even the darkest of souls!
Beautiful Hellenic museum, Melbourne Australia
"Occupying the landmark former Royal Mint building, the Hellenic Museum continues to be a prominent cultural destination in Melbourne. Hundreds of objects spanning over 8,000 years of Greek history are on display in the museum's galleries, in addition to numerous contemporary exhibitions"
A lovely little museum. It is recommended you have at least an hour to walk around, I personally spent around 3 hours here. Lots to read & view. Lovely customer service & the art exhibitions were beautiful
Great little exhibition but make sure once you go to check whether the virtual reality goggles in level 2 are working. If not then you are missing on a great virtual adventure
This is an amazing world class museum certainly inspires a passion for Hellenic culture from the ancient to the contemporary. There is something for everyone to explore and gain new appreciation for Hellenic culture. Don't miss it
Absolutely mind blowing exhibitions. Ancient Greece to contemporary art is all covered. Very friendly staff. Can't believe I've never visited before.
Worth a visit when in Melbourne. It will take around 1.5 hours if you take your time around the many different exhibitions. A great insight provided into the Hellenic world
Found it by accident on the way back from Victoria Markets. Located in the Mint Building in William Street - a fantastic group of visting exhibits from Greek Museums - some artifacts over 5,000 years old. Just beautiful. The staff are friendly and could not have been more helpful. There's a small gift shop with quality items. A must see if you're interested in Greek History. Great value at $12 for adults.
Absolutely stunning! Super friendly informative staff who very clearly enjoy their job, absolutely stunning well kept exhibitions, and a quiet lo-fi vibe. Absolutely love this, and definitely coming back.
Fantastic current exhibition showcasing 8000 years of Greek history. Very friendly and helpful staff, and fantastic ancient Greek artefacts. You'd struggle to find such treasures outside of Greece, in many other places. We'll worth the entrance fee. Very central. Highly recommended.
What a treasure in inner Melbourne. Great exhibitions and so nice to see Cypriote pottery! Memories from the thesis!
The Hellenic Museum has an impressive collection of Mycenaean, Crypriot, Archaic, Classical Greek and Byzantine artifacts. Pottery, bronze weapon and armour, statue, icon and painting. It's near the Flagstaff station and tram stop. This museum also has concession price for students and health care card holders.
An expansive collection of multiple periods of Greek history. Armour, weaponry, art, statues, iconography. Truly worth the price of admission for a great look into the rich history of Greece and its culture.
Love the new exhibits as Bronze Age is my favourite a chance to have a better look at armies and weapons is a must. Goddess Iris looks stunning couldn’t tell was that a figurine or real person. Looking forward to seeing what you do next
Interesting and good range. Would have liked more mythology items. The Messenger piece was beautiful
This museum was very disappointing. We went hoping to see some good exhibitions about Greece, specifically around the Persian Wars and the Golden Age of Athens. However, there was only very brief and vague information relating to this period. We would have loved to see more about Themistocles and Pericles and the Athenian Empire. This museum also advertised a hoplite exhibition but lacked specific details, only showing very limited information about Sparta and did not emphasise how the Spartans held the hoplite supremacy in this period. Overall, this museum was not good at inspiring interest in history or encouraging visitors to learn about this period.
Exceeded expectations. A somewhat small museum but has a very good selection of artefacts, art and exhibits. Can be appreciated by most people but is definitely a treat for fans of Greek mythology, the history of Greece, ancient warfare, the Olympics, Christian history, etc. The navigation through the galleries isn't always clear but there's always something interesting and occasionally stunning in every section. The highlight for me was definitely the virtual reality experience (Gods Myths & Mortals) which takes you back in time to an immersive learning experience. You can cover the museum in 45 minutes quickly or about 1.5 hours if you really read everything.
A wonderful Museum hidden between those tall buildings. The exposition is marvelous with artefacts of the archaic and the geometric periods. The statues, despite being copies, awoke in my soul true devotion and perplexing feelings. Even the staff is very welcoming and kind, very easy to maintain deep and cultural conversation with. (To them, if you go to Spain some day, just tell me ️). I truly recommend stopping by this museum.
Gorgeous little museum with a great mix of ancient and contemporary pieces of art. Hidden gem housed in the old Victorian Mint building.
Kinda tiny for the price (12). Y’all should know the metropolitan museum in New York takes 12 too, let along ngv is even free. I would not choose this one over other free museums if it was not arranged by a friend. ️️
如果不是朋友拉着来,我不会选择这个昂贵的博物馆️️
