I wouldn’t recommend Dr Peter Heffernan at all, Please let me explain my personal experience with this so-called professional Doctor.
He over prescribed potent Drugs & then when that Patient has to be urgently admitted into a Psychiatric Ward, This cruel heartless doctor, messages & says, ‘I’m sorry that I’ve accidentally Over medicated You to the extent of You being Hospitalised,! ’, and in an email hours later bribes that patient with a legal document stating that Unless its signed & that We won’t proceed with legal law against Him, then He cannot remain The treating doctor.
Oh We have His email proof of His blackmail message response.
How unprofessional is the corrupt irresponsible person we have called Doctor for over 5 years?
Mr Peter Heffernan, You are a Shameful example to the Medical field.
You should have Your licence revoked.
Shame On You, Shame on You.
Oh I almost forgot to mention, a few months back I put an earlier review warning just what he had done to destroy My Marriage Life & He then sweet-talked me into taking My dealings with Him down from The review, otherwise He wouldn’t be able to get Help for Us & to fix the damage he had caused My Family’s Lives & then no-sooner had I erased my review, He sent the email Bribe asking Us to not proceed with Legal Proceedings against Him.
Which of Course. We didn’t sign.
What a Dishonest thing He tried to do.
He should be in Prison.
That’s Illegally wrong Dr.
You have No Shame or No care factor at All.

In 2016, I was referred to Peter by my G. P. Previously I had been diagnosed with Bipolar in 2004 by another Psychiatrist. The medication prescribed for Bipolar, made me like a zombie for over 10 years. One of the tablets was Lithium.

Peter diagnosed me with ADULT ADHD. At the time I couldn't accept the diagnosis. The change in medications he prescribed, gave me back my life. I have now accepted that I have Adult ADHD.
Thank you Peter

Peter likes to go on Facebook and post in ADHD groups under the alias Peter Lawrence. He doesn’t identify he’s actually a psychiatrist because he’s too busy sticking the boot into the Labor Party and giving misleading information like “only psychs can refer for a 291” and “most GPs can’t prescribe S8s”, or recommending other doctors or nurse practitioners but not disclosing why he recommends those people in particular — friends? Financial incentives? There are vulnerable people in these groups but he’s only interested in stirring trouble. If what he’s doing is 100% fine he’d be posting under his real name; he doesn’t because of the professional blow-back it would cause. If it was fine he wouldn't have blocked me when I challenged his behaviour. It’s pretty pathetic from someone who hasn’t had open books for a long time. Here’s an idea, Doc — if you have so much time to post on Facebook, how about you extend your working hours and actually see more patients instead? On second thoughts, seeing as this is how you behave it’s better people don’t see you. Let’s see how the Health Complaints Commissioner views your behaviour. Edit: “HaTe SpEeCh! ” What a clown. Notice he didn’t deny my allegations. How many people suicided over the Coalitions’s Robodebt scheme, Doctor? Like Josh before me, I encourage people to visit Rate MD to see better reviews of this unethical, unprofessional man.

Not a fantastic experience. Heavy on the medication route, not understanding of other underlying issues - a more “have your medication that’s all you need outlook”. Belittling and demeaning in approach. I’d advise to find another, more understanding physician to see specialising in ADHD in adults.

I found Peter to be a particularly rude, arrogant, and narcissistic practitioner with a poor temper, who threw a dramatic tantrum when I returned to him with follow up questions, having not immediately commenced the medications (with potentially lethal side-effects) that he prescribed. Peter delivered a hefty diagnosis after only a very brief interview and handed over the prescription in the final moments of our first session with no time for questions, telling me to just look it up on wikipedia. He wasted most of our second session talking over me in a flustered state, comparing himself multiple times to a life-saving heart surgeon and me a patient refusing bypass surgery, belittled me at length for questioning his brilliance, and refused to see me any further until I complied. I've never before seen such an immature display from a supposed medical professional.

Peter lurks in a Melbourne ADHD support page on FB consisting of many of his own patients, where the admin is so frightened of the repercussions that he deleted my posts and warned me against asking if anyone else had poor experiences with him. I find that deeply unprofessional, and an invasion of an otherwise safe space.

Go check him out on Rate MD's where he can't groom replies, if you want a better picture of his abysmal mannerisms. Even there it's only the overall score including the politeness of his reception staff that drag his rating up out of the gutter.

Dr Heffernan knows his stuff and when it comes to adult ADHD that's what you need. I feel 100% confident in his diagnosis and management. It was a process of addressing other issues and ruling them out as factors in my ADHD symptoms. Not just wacking me on ADHD meds and see how we go. He is patient. He listens. And he really wants to see an improvement in your quality of life. For you. I feel very fortunate that my ADHD management is under Dr Heffernan.

Be careful - even though I never saw him for a diagnosis, he kept forcing me to take ADHD/ADD tests and labeling me with ADHD even when I was clearly not. After I sought an Autism diagnosis, and got it with flying colors, he became angry and cold, kind of disgusted. After a horrible session where he hammered me with sensitive questions and became verbally frusturated because I brought a family member with me (for communication and safety), he refused to see me and let me go after 3 years! I was in a bad place and he chucked me out when I became difficult. He needs to retire, I'm surprised he is still going. Please be careful with him. Please do your own research.

Peter is the only Psychatrist who listened and correctly dignosed, and treated me. More importantly he listened and was empathetic. I saw about 5 "Psychatrists" who all couldn't diagnose or treat me correctly. Some of these other Psychatrists were cold and cruel. Peter was the first Psychiatrist to actually tell me that some of the psychiatrists out there are outright dangerous and to be careful. After many many years of weekly psychotherapy it has been my privilege to be able to have the chance to see this amazing Psychatrist who more importantly is also a psychotherapist. I believe that all Psychiatrists should have to undergo psychotherapy training, so you actually discuss the issues rather than just the drugs. If ADHD could be a possible diagnosis no matter your age or location, i would highly recommend you contact his Staff!
Thank you Peter.

I feel incredibly lucky to have chosen Peter to see about adult ADHD. I immediately felt comfortable with him, and he did not question me or make me explain why I believe I have it, not at all. Peter read my school reports and knew I had ADHD. All the "Red Flags" were in my reports - lack of concentration, inability to focus, poor organisation, coming to class late and unprepared, easily distracted, losing my books, not doing my homework, etc, etc. I had only scored Ds and Es and Fs. Then Peter told me what a life with undiagnosed ADHD looks like - and everything he said described my life experience exactly. Dr Heffernan KNOWS ADHD and it's signs. He understands exactly how it affects peoples lives and outcomes. He is intuitive enough to achieve a diagnosis with his 25years experience working with adults with ADHD, to be able to arrive at a conclusion himself without interrogating the patient or making them feel dis-believed gets straight to the point and gets you sorted, no stuffing around. Ifsuspect that you are suffering from ADHD/ADD or have had a life of anxiety/depressive episodes and not achieving your potential, do yourself a favor and see Dr Peter Heffernan. Best decision I've made. Thank you Dr Hefffernan.

As a junior medico in the public health sphere I have concurred with Dr Heffernans opinions, as opposed to those generally offered in public health.

I've recently been seeing Dr Peter Heffernan to treat my adult ADHD.
He took the time to listen to me and understand my unique situation and review my medical history. Dr Heffernan is very easy to talk to - sensitive, compassionate and a great listener. I am often very anxious when it comes to talking to doctors, but I found the whole experience with Dr Heffernan to be very reassuring. I highly recommend Dr Heffernan.

Absolute joke peter is, put me on meditation for ADHD then refuses to see me, he say to keep him updated by email of symptoms and being the medication it was I was worried about it, aparently I emailed him to much and he then said he was going to charge for emails I send, went to next session he said it's okay u must email me, again I emailed keeping him up to date only to be told he was going to charge for emails, now I'm left with nothing and no referral, he did not hold his duty of care, took me on and off medication very quickly and in my opinion he is an absolute joke of a doctor,

Dr Peter Heffernan is professional yet personable in caring for his patients. His insight and ability to accurately deduce patient behaviors across wide areas of everyday life feels surprising and almost eerie at times - however the safety and reassurance felt in his presence never falters. His reception staff are warm and welcoming, and the in-clinic wait times are very reasonable.

Peter is a good Doctor/Psychiatrist. He listens, offers advice and solutions, and he is patient. He also ensures one is doing okay on current medications. I'm unsure if Peter himself has ADHD, but he seems to understand and 'get' everything I experience as an adult with ADHD. Honestly, talking to Peter is like talking to a mate. Good Bloke.

Emma, one of the receptionists at this clinic is polite, friendly and patient. She doesn't judge, nor does one feel judged when attending or leaving an appointment.

I recommend him and his clinic.

I went to see him a few years ago and he got me on track. I'd been to see other shrinks, but they missed the ADHD and the bipoler, and just tried to treat me for depression, and that didnt help. Dr Heff got me on the right treatments and things have been fine since. He helped the missus understand me. He feels more like a mate than a doctor, he's down to earth and knows his stuff. His secretary is also really helpful.

Really not happy with peter the way he so suddenly keeps stopping and starting all medications at once which put me in the hospital once because of suddenly stopping all medications at once like he instructed then when I was in hospital a few of the nurses and doctors there said I should of never stopped that many medications at once because its very dangerous, the pharmacy and other doctors agreed that it was the sudden stopping of medication that sent me to hospital, peter acts friendly but almost killed me with so many sudden changes in medications so I would not recommend him
