Headstart Early Learning Centre Berwick

How do you rate a childcare where 2 back to back incidents happened to your kid, the 2nd one being as severe as the child getting a fracture in his leg and none of the 4 educators in the room had any clue regarding how it happened.
So this incident happened on 17th of July, when we got a call that our son is in distress. We asked if anything happened but they just told they are not sure exactly, and gave us an impression like he might be missing his parents. We reached there in less than 30 mins and only after that they told something has happened to his leg and he is not standing. They didn't even care to call us immediately when they noticed that. The incident report is the proof that nothing was administered to him. Our son was crying desperately when we reached there and we noticed the office admin was just sitting beside him holding his water bottle. All his regular educators were busy and no one was with him. We immediately realized something is wrong with him as when we tried to make him stand, he was just not putting his right leg down. Till date the question bugs us like how the 4 educators, the admin who was a floater educator did not realize the severity of the incident. We strongly doubt their knowledge of providing first aid or handling little kids who are unable to speak. Kindly note, this incident happened in the Joey classroom (which is not that huge) under the supervision of 4 educators who later told us they have not noticed anything happening. There were just 13 kids in the classroom at that time, and if all educators say that no one has noticed anything, that only concludes how good they are with their job.
We took him to the emergency immediately, to discover that he has got a fracture in his right leg. It was a proper fracture and not a hairline one.
The centre had not provided us with any incident report on that day of incident, so we went to collect it the next day. We wanted to understand what had happened exactly, but no one gave us any proper information. They just told our son was sitting at 1 place (which was not even a corner of the room or was hiding anywhere) and he suddenly started crying. It just broke our heart the way they were uncooperative with us.
Talking about the frequencies of incidents, our son was bitten by another kid just 5 days back (July 12). It was winters, and he was wearing a sweater. The bite was good enough to tear his skin and for blood to come out. Again, think about the alertness of the educators. They were not even fast enough to stop the kids when such things happen.
I would have rated them 0, just for the way they have made this a business rather than making it a place for care and compassion. We drop our kids thinking our child is safe with them and will have a good time. But they ensure that they give us more stress. There is no camera in the daycare, educators are not cooperative, centre manager leaves early, so there is lack of leadership. Imagine the admin lady who had just joined two months back before this incident, was taking care of our child and was also the acting centre manager at that point of time. We had noticed when we go to pick our kid, the educators are always near to each other chit chatting among themselves, rather than being scattered and keeping an eye on the kids. They serve afternoon snacks around 2.30-2.45 and after that nothing is served to the kids till the parent picks them up. Many parents had complained about the same and their reply is that we the parents should encourage our kids to ask for food. Kids are too small to ask for food by themselves, the centre should be pre-emptive to offer something as simple as food to them in regular intervals.
I would ask the parents to think twice before sending kids here. Imagine the situation, how would you feel if something like this happened to your kid and for lifelong you won't even know how that happened.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND- The new manager is beautiful, so open and really understanding and knows her role as a manager.
I’ve been here for years with my 3 children all attending and we have never had an issue.
My mother’s group attends, there are 6 families of us and all of my friends rave about this centre too. Never had any issues and they are always there to help, and talk through anything with.
Our children’s education, safety and health is super important to our family and HS Berwick have been amazing with this. Their honesty and quick responses are fantastic and we will really miss everyone when our youngest goes off to school.

Brittany and the team at Headstart are fantastic. The educators are friendly, kind and supportive. All staff go above & beyond to make sure your little one is comfortable and happy. You receive daily updates by the educators on your child via the app which always has a lot of thought and time put into them. Centre management also have clear communication with families. We are so happy with the care we receive from each and everyone person at Headstart.

All 3 of our kids have gone to this center, the team are great, the 4 year old kinder program is excellent.great facility.couldn't recommend more highly

My son is attending Headstart Berwick for over a year now, and the growth he has made since attending has been absolutely wonderful he has learnt so much. What makes it better are his teachers, they have been so loving, caring and patient with him I feel comfortable knowing he is in such great care. I am so glad I chose Headstart Berwick.

They go above and beyond to accommodate children's interest into their programme.

My husband, our 18 month old and I cannot speak highly enough about Headstart Berwick. We were so nervous putting our little boy into daycare and the staff here supported us and our son so much in this transition. Our son has absolutely thrived at this center. Not only have they taught him exceptional manners (which we tried at home with far less success) including passing us food when he is finished (instead of throwing it on the ground) and saying please and thank you, but they also taught him some basic sign language to help him communicate with us when he didn’t have the right words including please, thank you and more. These staff are the most dedicated, supportive and beautiful carers. Our son literally brings us photos of them when he is at home for a few days because he misses them. We are having to move house and daycare due to work and half the reason we delayed moving so long was we were so reluctant to move our son from this care center which he loves so much. Such a huge thank you to all the staff at Headstart Berwick and particularly Julie, Alisha, Anna, Diane, Jess, Heidi and Jenny. We cannot thank you enough for your professionalism and dedication to our son and the other children in your care. Thank you for showing our little boy such genuine care and love. We will all miss you!

I’ve been using this facility for the last 5 years. The staff are very professional and caring. The facility is very clean and well equipped. My children enjoy attending and as a parent I feel very comfortable leaving them there. I would have no hesitation in recommending Headstart in Berwick.

There is a reason for the 4.9 reviews below but it really should be a 5.
The love and support Headstart Berwick provide is nothing short of incredible - my son has done nothing but thrive since being in care.

We love this place, the staff are so friendly and our son seems very comfortable and happy whenever we pick him up. Our son attends the Bilby room and we can not rate the staff in this room highly enough. The use of an app means we know how his day is travelling in terms of food, nappies and sleep, the best part are the photos we get each day.

Can’t rate the centre high enough! Excellent care has been shown to my girls over the 8 years that we’ve been there. The Educators are passionate and dedicated to the children in their care. All staff are professional and friendly. The facilities and resources in each room are excellent, as are the educational programs run to make sure children are engaged based on their own interests. The centre manager Jenny and her side kick Heidi are so approachable and helpful. I feel very lucky to have Headstart make what could’ve been a difficult time, as it was with my son over 4 different centres until we heard about Headstart a very smooth and happy one. Absolutely Fantastic Centre!
My three years ago daughter started at Head start BERWICK Centre two months ago, and she Loves all the stuff and educators in the centre. I can see her growths every day and how she develops friendships there. The App the centre is promoting provides the parents updates in real time which is very handy and awesome. I really appreciate all the effort and care from Headstart Berwick Centre!

We were blessed with around 4 years at Headstart Berwick.
During my daughters time at this centre she became apart of the “family”, I loved how much she loved her educators and the time she spent with them will be forever cherished.
We were updated with progress reports on a regular basis and provided with a daily report every day of attendance so I could see what the children did during the day and what they ate for lunch and snacks.
The environment was More the accomodating to my daughters needs and I wouldn’t go anywhere else for my my childs Early Education.
We will definitely be going back.
