Hakata Gensuke Yatai Ramen Carlton reviews
33Ordered the veggie ramen which was presented beautifully but quite disappointing. The taste was so bland and boring. It was almost tasteless. The serving size for $22 was very small and it is not a balanced meal - no protein source. Adding tofu to the ramen would improve. You could pay $2 to add an egg and they plonk a whole boiled egg in there. Its a nice atmosphere for informal dining.
Simple and delicious, this restaurant serves great food. The black tonkotsu ramen was absolutely delicious and the chicken katsu curry so flavoursome! This will be my go-to when in the area!
I usually go to Russell store because my friend said they opened a new branch on Lygon Street, and it's convenient for parking. So, the night before yesterday, I went there and ordered my usual ramen. But the next morning, my boyfriend and I started experiencing symptoms of food poisoning. I've been experiencing really bad stomachaches and diarrhea for three days, and my boyfriend has been experiencing the same, along with a fever. We haven't eaten a proper meal since. I can confirm that it was caused by this place because all the symptoms appeared right after we ate there in the morning. Additionally, I asked my friend who introduced me to this place, and they also had a meal there the day after and experienced similar symptoms.
P. S. When the ramen was served, I noticed that the pork looked very dull and dark, whereas the pork at Russell is usually white. I thought it might be because it was a different branch and they had different marination or something, so I didn't raise any questions to it. Now, looking back, I believe the pork must have been spoiled, which led to the food poisoning.
If you're feeling for some authentic Japanese ramen then Hakata Gensuke will fill the need! I've been quite a few times and in general, the ramens are full of flavour and feel like you're back in Japan. However, at times the sides fail to live up to expectations and fall to the side of the ramen.
Tho, if you're keen for some ramen, or never been to Japan and want to know what it's all about, you can't go wrong.
Why spend time for a long queue in town. This restaurant is also serving the same menu with the same standard of food/taste.
Perfect meal for a cold rainy Wednesday afternoon. Tonkotsu ramen was a great choice, noodles was soft with a nice texture and broth was hearty, thick (but not too thick iykyk) and so flavourful. Gyozas were a great side as well with the the right amount of filling.
Personally prefer their signature tonkotsu over the black fire ramen (which seemingly is their new special item). Overall, very delicious ramen, friendly staff, and prompt service.
One minor thing, I was, however, quite triggered (and annoyed) by the repeatedly slamming front door, which ruined what would have been a calm lunch spot.
Some of the best tonkotsu ramen around always delicious, fresh and tasty! Great flavours and great staff highly recommend.
Had the the signature tonkotsu with the extra meat, egg and nori. Delicious traditional style ramen.
Unbelievably amazing. Probably the best ramen I have had in town. I got the black tonkatsu with extra hard noodles and it was unbelievable. Highly highly recommend
The place is like a little Japan. The atmosphere is relaxing, perfect for enjoying the amazing ramen this place has. The ramen is probably one of the best in Melbourne. Will definitely return to this place to enjoy the little Japan in Melbourne.
Signature pork tonkotsu ramen was not super rich or flavourful, so if you like a lighter pork broth you might enjoy it. The noodles are the thin style, and they were a good texture. Only one slice of pork is a bit stingy, and if you want extra it's an additional $7. Overall the ramen was alright.
Ramen was nice, didn't like the QR ordering phone system, just go to the counter and pay like a normal person and save a few dollars.
I have come to this venue very often, roughly once a month it always welcomed very well the food quality never a question.
I was excited when they announced that Hakata Gensuke is opening in Carlton, and they did not disappoint!
The way we can customized our ramen order was so convenient, and they deliver as ordered.
Mine looked so plain (i don’t like veggies) but trust me it’s worth it
I love ramen!
Good ramen with a lighter broth than the usual hakata gensuke in a good way.
The chicken karage is also a bit different than usual with larger pieces and very juicy meat.
What an amazing service! The girl served us last night was so friendly and explained everything about the Japanese food. Thanks for your help. We will definitely come back and try other food!
Still my favourite Ramen in town! We love the signature tonkotsu and black garlic ramen. Prompt service and amazing soup base.
A little bit disappointed with the renkon chips today, not fresh and tasted stale oil.
I really enjoyed the spicy ramen and great to see ordering and payment all online with your phone.
After frequenting the city venue many times the Carlton ones seems to fall short. Can't quite put my finger on it, but the flavour is a little lacking compared to the city store.
