Hakata Gensuke Hawthorn - Ramen Professional reviews
67 We used to like to go this place for its customer service and one of good ramen in Melbourne until a recent disappointing experience. Recently we went to the Hakata Gensuke in Hawthorn for lunch. It was relatively busy day. Ramen came first. As usual, we picked some spicy pickles which is usually on the table after I tasted the soup which was okay. However, we smelled the pickles strange, like smelled -off and we let one of the staff members know. He said “he smelled it okay even though he does not normally eat this. He will check to kitchen”. He took the pickles and came back with new one. He said “the pickles was not off yet and it was still eatable”. He also said “would you like to get your ramen replaced with new one”. I said yes and he took it back. Within 5 min, he came back with a ramen which looked new. I thought it was very quick. I tried the ramen soup and taste very different from the one that I tried before the replacement, like boiling water added. I got my family checked the soup. One of my family member ordered the same dishes so we were able to compare before and after the replacement and it was clearly different. We never know what happened on the day.
I was very disappointed as:
1) manger did not come and see us even though manager was there on the day
2) manager let a young staff member to handle this and ended up making me very disappointed as above
3) not sure what happened to the soup and I was served with the ramen which I left whole soup
My family has been recommending the place since the first visit, however we are not sure anymore.
This place has insanely good ramen definitely overseas quality, with great ramen options such as salt level noodle toughness and they also have a decent amount of condiments.
I tried the god fire ramen level 1 and the spice was god tier alright my syneses have never been clearer hah, they also have a ramen + gyoza side + drink combo for a good price, highly recommend if you like ramen.
We've been frequenting this restaurant for a few years and never had bad experience until today. We are coming in a group of 6, and 1 of our friends had Zomato gold which will allow them to have buy 1 ramen get one free but not the ramen meal (so one for himself and free for the wife). We don't have Zomato gold and were ordering one ramen mealt and one normal ramen. The waitress suddenly said that because someone on our table had Zomato gold we have to pay the side dish and drink full price (not part of the special meal deal). Then I asked if this will still be the case if we sat at a separate table? And they said, no. So, we had to sit at another table so we could buy the special deal ramen. So what is the point of going together with our friends if we have to sit separately? Couldn't they just charge us separate bill? We weren't trying to 'take advantage' of the zomato gold deal and in the end this experience left a bad taste in my mouth and will not be coming back again.
Good ramen, great value for money when you use the zomato gold buy one get one free deal! Try it out especially when you are subscribed to zomato gold.
Delicious and great service. This place is kid friendly too which isn't entirely obvious from the website. We were able to get a high chair and plastic crockery for the kid.
The food was outstanding the ramen soup with pork boiled ramen egg and the noodles what an amazing taste
This 1 star is dedicated to the very rude waitress we experience today. I have been to this particular restaurant many times but the ruddiness coming from the tallest waitress today nearly causes me to blowed my top.
Consistently great quality ramen. Simple menu with lots of options for condiments so you can control the flavour. Highly recommend
I just love the simple menue & reasonable price on food. I won't say it's the best Ramen you would have but it's okay. Good customer service.
The table ranging and condiments just like a typical ramen shop in Japen. For a spicy lover like me, the God Fire level three is what I've been looking for. Gives you a watering eyes and red nose, and you will still come back for it.
The gyozas were very tasty and so was the ramen but it could definitely have more meat in it which would be my only main complaint. Prices are quite reasonable considering the location of the restaurant. I will probably be back but will try other ramen places first.
Justifiably regarded as one of the best ramen places in Melbourne. Efficient no nonsense service. Watch out for the spice ratings though!
Almost 5 stars if it is for comparing with its another branch in the city near Russell street. Goza is spot on. Just ramen and fried chicken is slightly below the other branch. Still very good.
Very tasty broth and you get to choose the texture of the ramen. Also the service was fantastic.
Love to visit this place when I'm very starving and craving at the same time. Almost no long queue like the one in Russell Street in CBD
We ordered signature, black and gof fire to try out and I like signature one the most!
All the ingredients are fresh and taste good! Side dishes like fried chicken, dumplings and fried pork chop are good too!
Would definitely come back again next time!
Hits the spot every time. Never disappointed. For me I need to go there as often as I can to fix my cravings for Ramen and Gyozas.
Great staff, delicious ramen. Use Zomato Gold here and still felt welcomed:) will be back to try an option that is not so spicy
Nice Ramen going to Southern Cross catch Skybus to Avalon Airport back to Kuala Lumpur. By tomorrow I will be back home what a wounderful feeling really miss home.
Just like the one in the city, but better imo because of less wait time and spacious room inside. Good and menu exactly the same like the other shops, staff here are nice and professional.
