Had my dinner at this hai nan chicken rice. Surprisingly their foods are so delicious. Price wise, that we ordered half chicken + chicken rice + sprouts + teh tarik 48$ considered reasonable price. Would definitely recommend to have a try.

If you run out of roast chicken next time please tell your customer straight after they have ordered not after they have waited for 15 minutes. If you then offer them a substitute product (hainan chicken instead of roast chicken) tell them the price difference as per when you offer the substitute and not a further few minutes afterwards. Great way to lose a customer.

Signature chicken was nothing more than boiled chicken, Something I had at my grandmas house.

Bbq pork was not bad but was too “porky” tasting after the 3rd slice. The dry noodles were nice to eat with them. The miso soup could’ve used more seasoning.

Worst thing was the vegetarian spring rolls - Mushy and funky tasting. Also they were quite big, which to me personally is not as nice as the slimmer ones.

Ordered through DoorDash, food was packaged inadequately for transportation. The soup from the Bak Kut Teh leaked out and the coffee spilled completely as it was packaged in a paper cup that leaked from the top and impact to the side of the cup resulted in the bottom of the cup blowing out.

What was left of the food was fairly good, not sure about the use of canned mushrooms instead if shitake mushrooms though.

What a great spot for lunch! The menu is varied even though it's known for serving chicken rice. I had the laksa and it was very good - huge serving with lots of succulent chicken (as they use the hainanese poached chicken), fish cake, eggplant and tofu. The broth was tasty too especially after adding some of the tangy chilli sauce. Great value filling meal for ~$15. I'll definitely be back to try the chicken rice!

Wow that was really bad. The chicken was cold, rubbery and slimy, bony, fatty, greasy plates, unpleasant broth. Bright lights, no atmosphere. Not licensed or BYO. One of the few places that has ever compelled me to write a review.

The owner of this shop, please ask your chef to cook the rice better.
It doesn’t matter if the bak kut teh is tasteless. The white rice is raw.
I can’t even eat the Bak Kut Teh soup with rice.

I was craving chicken rice and decided to give this store a visit as it was located in the city near Chinatown. It was not disappointed and I enjoyed the fragrant chicken rice. Chicken was cooked perfectly and the chilli sauce on the side was a game changer. If you are a fan of chicken giblets I would recommend it as well, its rare to find a place that does it well. I loved the Three Layers Tea (Teh C Special) as it reminded me of home. The staff were really friendly and were open to feedback, and I look forward to returning again very soon! Keep up the good work!

I came here last month and found the place to be great. I had the chicken / pork laksa and some steamed veg; the serving sizes were fantastic and it all tasted great.excellent value for money. The staff were also very nice; I came in not long before closing time but they accommodated me even while they were packing up.

Hainan Chicken Chinatown, Melbourne
@hainanchickengroup Chinatown is another affordable and authentic Malaysian comfort food that has been making waves in the foodie community. Had to try it out as Malaysian food hasn’t disappointed me even once yet. We ordered Thai Style Tofu ($8.30), Hainan Chicken Rice + Chicken Giblets ($16.80), Bak Kut Teh ($15.80), Taro Rice ($5.80) and Bean Sprouts ($5.80).

Honestly considering the price, it was a solid hearty meal. Taste was authentic even for my Malaysian girlfriend - who was especially impressed by the beautiful springy chicken skin and tender meat. We were so surprised by the portion size, everything was huge and could feed a crowd. Bak Kut Teh comes with complimentary white rice and chinese doughnuts, perfect to soak up all that herbal umami goodness. Their chilli sauce and ginger scallion sauce was amazingly flavourful as well.

By the end of it, we were so full with all these wonderful dishes (but still no leftover! Ahahah). Give it a try the next time you swing by Chinatown!

They have a massive options menu, very confusing when we order via scan code as in the end it is not working and we ordered manually. Food however they were tasty

Seriously genuine Hainan chicken and I've not found any other restaurant to serve the same thing at the same level. Recommended.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Hainan Chicken Restaurant, and I must say, it was an extraordinary! From the moment I stepped foot inside, I was greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere that immediately made me feel at home.

The star of the show, of course, was the Hainan chicken itself. Words cannot express how tender, succulent, and flavorful it was. Each bite was a sheer delight, with the perfectly cooked chicken melting in my mouth. The masterful combination of fragrant jasmine rice, delectable dipping sauces, and fresh herbs elevated the dish to new heights of culinary excellence.

Despite the high quality of the ingredients and the culinary mastery on display, the prices were surprisingly reasonable. It's rare to find such an exceptional dining experience that doesn't break the bank, making it even more enticing to return again and again.

Very delicious and one of the best "bang for your buck" spot in CBD!
Place not that big so expect some queues during peak hour.
Love their Hainan chicken, very juicy and fragrant
Curry laksa portion is massive! Really delicious and definitely very good value

Nice easy cheap meal. 10% surcharge on weekends and public holidays.
Pictured is Laksa, signature hainanese chicken two ways and bbq pork

Overpriced for its quality, especially the BBQ pork and hainan rice. The pork is dry and flavorless. The amount of MSG in the meal is quite absurd, never felt that thirsty after a meal before.

The dry fish is okay, but the chicken is not good, it’s very woody, and the chicken bone tea is just average.

I rank it to 3 stars, because of the the chicken cooked in a correct way and not tough. Unfortunately rice, spring onion ginger sauce & soup are disappointing.
