Hahndorf's Fine Chocolates Nth Balwyn

Our trip to this cafe was a total disappointment.
While the young server was friendly, interactions with the older gentleman, likely the owner, were less pleasant.
When one of my kids accidentally knocked over a box of chocolates, he reacted with visible annoyance. Although my child promptly apologised and the chocolates were not damaged, he remained clearly irritated, even voicing concerns about children moving around the store!
Despite us having spent around $60 in the store the uncomfortable vibes continued with angry stares from the owner while we waited for our drinks. Even when the milkshakes arrived, the experience was so off-putting that we left without enjoying them.
It’s interesting that other negative reviews only seem to elicit defensive responses, rather than a proactive response to addressing glaring issues. Steer clear of this cafe, especially if you have kids!

I love this store. I love both the hot chocolate and iced chocolate drinks. I don't know of anywhere that could match or better them. I also love the free chocolate that comes with the drinks. If I go away on holiday I can't find any place that comes close to Harndorf.

Have been visiting this cafe since primary school.
It's a nostalgic to come and grab a milkshake and a choccie to enjoy.

Milkshake was great. Would be 5 stars but on the way out I think one of the customers muttered "good riddance". It could have been all in my head but you never know.

Amazing artisan chocolate and rich chocolate drinks of hot and cold. Very friendly staffs and comfortable atmosphere to enjoy their lovely sweets.

Delicious chocolates, friendly staff. Can sit inside or outdoors. Choice of newspapers to read.

Best Staff and Priced Iced Mocha's/ Chocolate/Coffees out of ALL the Hahndorf's Fine Chocolates. Love that they are Open Later too. We used to Ride up here along the Koonung Trail when the Kids were little. Now that they're in Secondary School they can Ride themselves to get one. Plus the Best thing about this Cafe is you always get to Choose a Complimentary Chocolate with your Drink or Food Purchase.

It’s been my go to place for 15 years with friends and on my own when I need time out.
Quality hot chocolate, milkshakes and chocolates (I don’t drink coffee).
Some girls are young.yes (as stated in previous reviews) …. But at least they are working and learning. Encourage the girls … don’t put them down for showing initiative!

Always welcoming staff and well made hot chocolates and espresso coffee. You receive a complimentary choccie with your beverage, I usually go for Devonshire Cream. They have five packs of a variety of choccies too, (the choccies are pretty nice quality and comes in a good variety of flavours, not sure if they have banana, I always loved their lavender and rose flavoured ones with the invertase but they phase these ones in and out) most of these five pack types you receive an espresso freebie, which comes with a "piggy-backed" free choccie! Staff are friendly and polite, sometimes you need to wait a while for your beverage to be served, due to how busy it is in here - but it's always worth the wait.

Wonderful range of chocolates and gifts. Really appreciate the complimentary chocolate with each coffee purchase. This shop has been a favourite in the community for years for good reason. It's a great place to meet for a coffee and the staff are lovely.

I hate to leave such a disappointing review but i have been extremely unhappy with this cafe lately.i used to enjoy visits to here but recently their quality and hospitality has not been the same.staff seemed un-experienced and weren't very friendly.we got a complete different beverage to what we ordered and ended up paying way more then we should have.im heart broken to say this but i would no longer recommend this cafe.go spend your money at a place you know will serve you right!

Had a soy mocha here and it really just tasted like soy milk and water.until the last bit where a huge glob of melted chocolate slid into my mouth sigh! I really want to like this store.the person working there is so friendly, and you get a free chocolate with your coffee, and the grand mariner chocolate is quite yummy

Great drinks and especially chocolate, free chocolate with each drink is an all time favourite.
