Edit: Update. They have found a way to make the process a little easier for me after an email this morning. So I appreciate that and thank you. I removed the post above and have adjusted the rating above to match the effort they had gone through to clear up the confusion

I had about six sessions with Marita Knight for trauma therapy. In my opinion it was unethical to take on a client when you did not have the room or time for them. After my first session I waited weeks for a second, with more extended breaks in between my other appointments. I then decided to wait months so I could book several appointments in a row, and my appointments were cancelled and switched to another time which was not appropriate for me. Marita refused to take my contraindications into account when scheduling appointments with me, such as my work and study commitments, and the fact that an unexpected change in routine is extremely stressful for me. In fact, that was one of the key reasons for seeing her. Marita came across as cold and combative in sessions, sometimes accusing me of not wanting to be there when in reality I was just dealing with my mental health concerns and making a huge effort to get to therapy. Seeing Growth Psychology was a complete waste of time and money, I honestly expected much more from a private clinic after suffering through the public system for so long. Growth psychology was however able to make concessions for me in session cost, but I believe that’s the only positive thing that happened in my months of trying to make it work there. I’m extremely disappointed in my experience and disheartened that I have to start the process all over again with someone else.

I had my daughter booked in since December and waited 2 months for an appointment, sent all the information through so they knew her age and upon attending for her appointment today the psychologist told my daughter she only works with people over the age of 18, even though on their website it says she has “12 years experience working with adults and adolescents”. She then after telling my daughter that said that she will work with her but my teenage daughter understandably was put off by her saying she doesn’t work with youth and then saying that she would work with her. I think a better outcome would have been if she approached me as her father in the waiting room and advising me of this rather than making my teenage daughter feel uncomfortable. We are now back to square one and on another waiting list with another practice with the next available appointment not being until April. Extremely disappointed and annoyed about this outcome and this practice need to take more time checking the patients details before booking appointments with psychologists that don’t work with youth. Also their website needs to be updated to advise that this particular psychologist only works with people over the age of 18 instead of saying adolescents as an adolescent is between the age of 10 and 19. Given that you are working with people with mental health issues you really need to sort this out as this was extremely poor service on your behalf growth psychology.

I’ve been going to Growth Psychology for three years now and have seen three practitioners due to one going on maternity leave and the other personal leave (we all deserve time away from work right?). I have found each psychologist to be warm, welcoming and sensitive to my needs. Not once have I felt judged (why I discontinued seeing another psychologist). Having said that they ask that as a patient you commit to making small changes in order to improve your mental health, you have to work in with the psychologist in order to get well again.
