The staff at Crossways are particularly friendly and accommodating and service is very fast. You can purchase take away or you can eat there and consume as many servings of main course, dessert & beverages as you desire for just $9.50 (or $7.50 if you have a concession card) regardless. The Hare Krishna food meets various food groups & dietary requirements/preferences, making it accessible and healthy to various individuals. The main course and some deserts are vegan and overall, the menu is vegetarian. The curries are generally mildly spicy and flavoursome and there are a great deal of vegetables and very often some tofu and legumes. The menu includes rice, papadums 2 curries, fruit halava, orange cordial, lassi & water. There is a set menu for every day of the week. I am personally very glad that Crossways has re-opened and I believe the food is delicious and a good staple. I pay Crossways a visit on most days I’m in the city and it is my favourite restaurant of all time! I would recommend Crossways, particularly for people who like curries, have specific dietary preferences &/ have large appetites.

The most reliable vegetarian restaurant in Melbourne. We have been eating there for over forty years.

Peaceful atmosphere, good view, and a range of vegetarian and vegan options at great value for money. Lots of stairs, so may be an accessibility issue for some.

Ordered the veggie platter, and very happy with the serving size. Soup was a bit salty though, but overall very nice dining experience.

Gopals, on the first floor above the shops on Swanston Street, diagonally opposite the Town Hall, has been one of my favourite places to eat out at for many years, in fact from my days at uni. It has excellent delicious, healthy, vegetarian and vegan buffet food (but not self serve) and at very reasonable prices. The range isn't extensive and includes vegan curries, spinach pie, lasagna, soup, koftas, samosas and salads and a couple of deserts sometimes including the to-die-for vegan cheesecake. The servings are quite generous so you do get great value. I elom leave hungry!

It's a relatively small place with only a dozen or so small tables and a wall-to-wall bench area across the room under the front window which gives you a bird's-eye view down onto the hustle and bustle of Swanston Street.

Being upstairs it doesn't have a shop front at street level. If you walk past and blink you'll most likely miss it. At street level it only has a narrow door sandwiched between two retail stores. As you walk along Swanston Street you have to look up at the illuminated signage until you see the "Vegan Gopals Vegetarian restaurant" sign. At that entrance you'll see a long flight of stairs that leads you up to the restaurant on the first floor. However, the first thing you'll see when you reach the first landing is a couple of toilets; not the best impression hey, I mean toilets are not the first thing you want to see when entering a restaurant.

The staff is very friendly and provides a great service. Gopals is very popular and it gets very busy at lunch time, so for lunch come a little earlier or a little later. Being upstairs, Gopals isn't suitable for prams and wheelchairs and can be difficult if you have mobility issues.

Had sumptuous lunch at Gopals. Amazing and delicious food. Chef Rohit was extremely polite and we just left it to him to suggest our order. Dal (lentil soup) was the best I've had in a long time. Would definitely come next time.

Lovely place with great food at a great price. Has good vibes and the place and food looks amazing. The taste and texture of their curries are superb, and though they can sometimes be a tad bit too spicy that just adds a slight randomness element which adds variety and appeals to my (and I’m sure others’) taste buds. Great employees work here too, all lovely people.

Looking for a place to go before the theatre with friends and this popped up on the web search. Didn't realise it's a Hare Krishna joint until I got there but it's just an eatery, not a temple. There is a long flight of stairs from Swanston St which might put some people off. Then you line up cafeteria style and there is a fairly simple set of options. The food itself is filling and mildly spiced. We had the 'vegan' option. It's not fine dining but for a tasty filling vego meal at a good price it's perfect. There's no BYO option or any alcohol.

Anyone who is looking for Vegan/Vegetarian food must try this. Walkable distance from Flinders station.

The quality of food you get for the price- you just can't beat it.

Good portion sizes
Quality and tasty food
And good price.
