Geelong Gallery reviews
59Wonderful exhibitions, Staff are amazing, Friendly, very helpful, if your visiting Geelong take a break relax and enjoy the art work and exhibitions on display.
Only 2% of the Gallery's own Collection is ever on display, but I wanted to see their 1890 painting by Frederick McCubbin, 'The Bush Burial' & was pleased of the opportunity to do so.
Australia's little regional & rural art galleries routinely punch above their weight. Now that they are also featuring & collecting Indigenous artworks, their cultural value will continue to shine.
A beautiful gallery with a Eclectic mix of art. Mandy Martin Exhib. Very interesting and different. Permanent collection excellent with the odd McCubbin. Arthur Dtreetons painting of Lorne a favourite. Ceramics downstairs gorgeous. A great spot to be can do it all in 1hr if you have limited time.
I would like to thank the gallery for the experience and the staff Anna and Acy. They were very friendly and made my unpleasant day better. I'm really grateful to them for bringing me a lot of strength.
Wonderful art gallery in the middle of the city. Try their ar tour guide Orby. A must for small kids looking to fall in love with art.
We are so lucky to have such a beautiful Gallery in Geelong. It costs very little to be a member and you’re supporting the arts in your local town. Have you been to the Geelong Gallery lately?
Quite a small gallery, still interesting though. Staff were friendly. Plenty of parking nearby (paid)
Friendly and respectful staff, beautiful art drawn/painted with pure talent, calm and relaxing experience.
In my opinion, most the art was abstract and devoid of any meaning; minimal paint on a canvas arranged in various splotches is not art.
Anything else in the gallery was either bizarre or boring to look at.
I did enjoy a couple of peices of art work; usually the landscape ones featuring historical landmarks and destinations within Australia were appealing and insightful.
Some of the aboriginal inspired artwork too was culturally fascinating.
Ultimately, I did enjoy my time here but I can't say that Geelong Gallery met my expectations, unfortunately.
Current exhibition is worth a visit, some interesting entries. Permanent collection is good too. Nice facility. Free! And some good places to eat, just down the road.
If you have an hour to spare well worth a look. It's free and some excellent art/pottery including some famous paintings from the Heidelberg school.
Always a great experience.this time we saw the Archie 100 exhibition.make sure you see it when it comes to a gallery near you:)
Fabulous regional gallery! Entry is from Little Malop Street to make it easily wheelchair accessible. The galleries are open and bright and have good visiting exhibitions - recently RONE and Archie 100 - as well as a great permanent collection.
Loved 100 years of the Archibald's. Fantastic. Also pleased with a number of well placed seats.
Went to see the Archibold 100 exhibition. Wow what a building! The gallery is a wonderful space. And the exbition was fantastic! I love the digital access to everything that was written on the wall. Look forward to more exhibitions in the future.
Saw archibald prize looked good nice coffee shop nearby really good paintings back room was just perfect nice location here are some of the pictures
We visited for the Archie100 exhibition which we really enjoyed. Not too crowded. Excellent 'greeter' at the front door.
I visited the Geelong Gallery when the Archie 100 Exhibition was held there. It is located near the town centre with easy access to off street parking. The gallery has a small gift shop/area but no onsite cafe or dining area. Public toilets are located inside the gallery and can only be accessed from the main entrance of the gallery. Overall, it’s an impressive regional gallery with an intimate feel.
Beautiful architecture in the actual building, but the views from the windows, to the surrounding park are also wonderful. The Archibald Prize Retrospective showcases the many portraits which have won this prestigious award. The paintings are arranged thematically according to the subject of the portrait. The exhibition is curated with attention to detail, and many interesting 'snippets' about both the artist and the sitter. Well worth a drive or train journey to Geelong.
