Reasonable for jigsaws and basic model kits but if you want decent "big" model you are better off going elsewhere. Range of model paint is ok.

Humiliated. Staff are rude and we will not return.
Decided to go Boxing Day shopping, we wanted some trading cards and thought of this store to visit first rather than getting them from a larger brand. We go to pay for our items with a $100 note which we had been given for Christmas. The woman checked to see if it was real, scrunching it, scratching on it, trying to rip it and then when it had passed all those tests she said it was smudging. With a smug “sorry we can’t accept that, sorry about that”, we decided not to make the purchase as we couldn’t get mobile reception in their store and didn’t want to feel embarrassed yet again in front of everyone else in line if that payment method didn’t work. We immediately got confirmation that our Christmas bank notes were from the bank directly for our present and purchased our trading cards elsewhere where our notes were also tested and accepted. Never coming back, we’ve supported this store for so long - not anymore with staff like that.

Always a positive experience here. Lovely kind staff who know their products and have a wide range of model kits to suit any age.

Nice experience but they don't know how to place chess pieces, (the queen should always go on the same colour as it's self)

Awesome service! Dragon Shield Matte Clear and One-Touches were stocked here, which I couldn’t find anywhere nearby.

Would not recommend doing a lay-bys with these guys. We’ve had two kids recently diagnosed with the C word. Went to cancel our lay-by we had, expecting to lose a small portion of our payment. To only be told that we will loose everything we have paid. Rude customer service

I walked in to the store today 23Nov around 1pm excited to see the changes as it has relocated within fountain gate. Rather than a hello the woman at counter said abruptly "have you signed in" I apologised showed my certificate and continued to walk in. I then saw another worker on the floor out towards the back of the store who asked me if I needed help I said I was happy to look around she then preceeded asking me whether I had been vaccinated in a condescending tone. I SAID "YES" I mean how else would I be let in to the store and walked all the way through otherwise. I'm ready and prepared for more of this kind of attitude and you better believe I'm going to be leaving some reviews aswell.

Horrible experience. Tried to return unopened items (that were un-required gifts), sadly no. Credit or exchange only… sales lady quick to show me that “No refunds” is highlighted on the docket. With no choice, I Shopped for an alternative item.

Found a product marked as $25 that scanned as $30 at front counter. Manager stated that this is the price even though the ticket clearly showed $25. She made no attempt to honor pricing. Stated it was an error and she could charge whatever price she wanted. She then said that if multiples of the same product were marked at the same price, she would match it. Unfortunately, it was the last unit in store. Felt victimized as I honestly felt like she was accusing me of changing price tickets. I also felt embarrassed arguing over $5 in front of my family and other customers but the principle of this ordeal made me a little more determined than I probably should have been.

Made no attempt to match online pricing either. Would not budge on “store policy”. To add to insult, the item I returned (approx $25) was then re-priced to sell about $10 higher than what I initially paid for.

Just felt her behavior and customer service was extremely poor for the sake of a measly $5. I could understand if the value was ridiculously different, but seriously.

Not one to normally give negative feedback but this salespersons customer service needs to be fine tuned. Who knows maybe she was just having a bad day and I was just the wrong person at the wrong time…

Poor experience. Lady grabbed the wrong version of the game and we didn't realise until opening the box. Was told that it was our fault and due to the 'current situation of the world' we couldn't get a refund. After opening the box and deciding that it was in perfect condition she swapped for the right one. Even after accusing me. I guess I'm happy that I now have the version I originally asked for, but I won't be returning.

People are very polite however I tried to return something still in wrapping and unopened and could only exchange for store credit. Poor policy folks won't be coming back. Pity as I used to shop there all the time.

Are you young and into tabletop board games?
Go to your friendly local store store instead.
Are you looking for simpler games for your family or kids?
Go to nearby department stores instead.
Are you older and looking for model cars?
The selection here is decent but there are many missing licenses and better hobbyist shops close by.

The only reason I've gone here over the last couple of years is that it's closer than better local game stores and it's a common place for board gamers to get gift cards from.

So, what's up with Games World Fountain Gate?

(1) The store itself. Cramped at the best of times and straight-up nightmarish at the worst; lines regularly fill the centre of the shop to the back of the store, and can be seen spilling out into the mall, since so many people are set aside to wait and there's so much stock just lying around. Honestly, as a *customer* I almost wish I could get an hour alone in the shop just to rearrange everything better, and that's saying something.
There is just SO much stock laid out SO poorly, it's a nightmare to navigate, it's cramped, it's tight, and even after searching over the walls of endless model cars, the fact that any Dungeons & Dragons/Stranger Things/Warhammer licensed products are literally hidden in a corner making it slow, awkward and painful just to LOOK at from 6+ feet away, let alone get the ladies to bring anything closer. Unless you're actively trying to drive people looking for that stuff away from your business (and to, say, Zing, which is literally one floor above it and keep such products in an open area), just move it already.

Sometimes such products are literally obscured by model cars and other products. At the very least, spin them around so that they can be seen from the front window; other shops in the same mall do it, you can too.
You can immediately look around and get the feeling that this isn't a game enthusiast who decided to open a Games World branch, this seems to be an older person's model car store and corporate force them to jam in some games in some places, and they do so by giving them the tiniest amount of space permitted. Some products are almost aggressively hidden away, and trying to see them is a slow and agonising process. And why is it slow and agonising?

(2) The staff. For whatever reason (presumably because this includes the manager), the staff are almost entirely 50-60+ women. That's totally fine. But while this isn't a bad thing, they aren't particularly knowledgeable on games at all (in fact their knowledge is VERY poor, it's literally like asking my grandmother), they are always *painfully* slow, on multiple occasions over multiple holidays we were set aside for 10 minutes because some didn't know how their own gift cards work. Today, the line of people asked to 'just wait to the side' was literally longer than the queue of people waiting inside the store. Dreadfully poor knowledge base. Even compared to other Games World stores, like Chadstone, this is the worst one, with staff essentially incapable of helping anyone after anything other than model cars, let alone making recommendations based on genres. Others can do it, why can't this one? The staff are polite, which is lovely, but it hurts your soul to look at them smiling while obliviously pawing at the computer trying to figure out how to search for stock or process a payment for literally, genuinely, seriously, 5 minutes or longer.

(3) The prices. Now, you already know that you can use the phone, tablet or computer you're reading this review on to find everything - literally everything - in this store cheaper online. Games World's prices are never better, and often not even competitive, with other local game stores, and even those are almost always worse than online. It seems like there are rarely sales to help mitigate this.
As above, if you're after simple family games, department stores generally also have them cheaper. Even other game stores in the same mall are cheaper.

To both Fountain Gate Games World and customers: you can do better, so PLEASE do.

We were in store yesterday looking at a chess set and got served by Diane who went above and beyond to assist us. Not only was Diane very friendly, she rang around to other stores to see if they had the set we were interested in and offered some excellent advice. Very impressed! Thank you Diane.

Staff here are not game enthusiasts, you'll have a much better experience going to a specialist local games shop not a franchise. Prices here are also higher than you will find elsewhere.

If you have a car, you're better off driving to Gameology in Clayton South.

Heard the lady say No refund for something still in the package and with the receipt.

If I could give a rating in the negative I would. Worse customer service ever. Are you even interested in meeting any kind of service standard at all? When a customer wants to view collectable items it's a good idea to let them see the items. Not piss and moan stating that the customer can't go behind the counter to see them, that's a given. Next time move your lazy butt and show the items to the customer. This sort of attitude makes online shopping the better option

Visited the Fountain Gate store on Sunday. Staff were very friendly and the store had a great variety of cars. I was served by a lovely lady called Sam which had great knowledge of the cars and managed to convince me to buy a $300 Camaro. Looking forward to my next visit!

This is a decieving store:

Told me I can return the item I bought if I did not like it and then when I do return the item the employee behind the counter refuses to accept the item.

Do not buy from them at all.

You will be disappointed

Games world fountain gate do not honour their 14 day refund policy for faulty goods.
They only offer the warranty policy and replace faulty items only.
They will make the return of items as difficult as possible and even if you pay the application fee and go to consumer affairs to uphold your consumer rights they still won't refund you as consumer rights can only offer advice and not enforce the decision. Then you are forced to lodge your claim to V. C. A. T pay another fee and finally after this entire process and expense can you be refunded for the full purchase price only.
Games world know the system and expense involved to pursue these matters and rely on the cost and inconvenience to deter people from taking this course of action.
Wouldn't it be good customer service and much easier if games world stopped playing these stupid games and just done the right thing from the start to ensure good customer service and positive feed back from happy customers.
