Gabriel Fitzroy reviews
54The “vegan option” of avocado toast is just removing the egg. Although Gabriel charges $3.50 for an extra egg, the cafe refused to replace the egg with anything of equal value from the list of sides such as mushrooms and does not give any discount for receiving less food. I ordered the harvest bowl instead which inexplicably was served with no knife and a soup spoon, and had an unpleasant vinegary dressing. It was almost impossible to get staff’s attention to order and one of them was surly and rude. They also charge $0.50 extra for soy milk plus a weekend surcharge of 10% plus a card surcharge—bit ridiculous.
Such a great atmosphere, friendly staff, good food and coffee. Just what I expected from this kind of venue. It’s a win. Happy to be a new regular for this place.
Supreme food quality!
The chips are fresh cut and thin, very crispy.
I had avocado on toast as well and the bread was just magical! Don't know what they did to it but it was super tasty the whole thing.
The place itself is very chilled and beautiful, great for a coffee, a beer, or hanging out with friends.
Reasonable pricing.
It's table service, and there's wheelchair entry as well.
A must try!
Was welcomed by the girl bringing the food around the tables but the service is terrible behind the counter. Especially the guy with long hair ordering us around to sit ended up just getting takeaway because we didn’t want to deal with him.
Amazing experience. Super cool atmosphere. The service is so homey ans warm. And the food… oh my.it’s a YES for me
Visiting Melbourne and had a wonderful, relaxed lunch here solo. Great food, coffee and service while soaking up Gertrude st vibe.
Nice vibe but the team is not cut out for faster pace service, more chatting to each other than seating customer down, followed by water and order. Had to call 1 of 3 waiters over just order even though it's half empty. After the whole meal, still no tap water. Super Basics really. Used to be regular here at lunchtime but my team has to go somewhere else to get sharper service, that's the difference.
Coffee is very well made! Would like to dine-in next time! Cozy environment inside and outside, suitable for solo visitor and groups. All staffs are friendly.
Always a good coffee and breakfast. Well priced and fantastic eggs. I never understand why people line up next door when Gabriel is far better.
Fantastic coffee and the lovely barista helped me out ordering eggs for my fussy autistic daughter who was about to loose it.made my day
Coffee not worth ordering
Burnt black scrambled eggs
The chef is very unprofessional
Suggest changing to a more experienced chef
The only thing I can boast about is the outfield staff are always friendly
Cute vibe and good service, but I ordered the granola on their menu. Worst granola I’ve ever had. Too small a serving, the puff thing wasn’t satisfying.
My advice to chef, offer a classic granola which tastes better.
Food ingredients and quality not as good as previously experienced. Gluggy food. Disappointing, expensive, noisy
Delicious brunch that came put quickly and was nicely presented. The staff were friendly, however lacked in customer service skills when it came back to checking in on our meals. Our drinks came out after we were almost done eating which was irritating and it would of been nice to ask a staff member about this if they had come to touch base with how we were going.
It seems that customer service is a common issue after reading similar reviews, although I wouldn’t miss this place because the food makes up for it.
Buzzing little corner cafe with a relaxed vibe. Long queue for take away coffees.
Ordered Summer Tomatoes and Ocean Trout plus coffees.
Summer Tomatoes came with a generous serve of strachiatella and was well seasoned and delicious.
Ocean Trout was a gravlax of ocean trout with potato rosti, poached eggs, hollandaise sauce and asparagus. The rosti was not shredded but thinly sliced potatoes and was crispy. Loved the rosti.
Good coffee. Friendly service and did not feel rushed despite people waiting for tables.
Great breakfast options, however the waitress didn’t seem to know much about the menu when asked questions about a couple of the dishes.
Nice ambience and peaceful cafe, inside and outside seating options.
Wifi available with strong fast signal.
Only negative is can overhear staff conversations occasionally about their personal lives.
Great selection of food and drink, especially gluten free options. I had the summer tomatoes which was delicious. Prices are good too, very fair.
Friendly and chilled.
Definitely recommend and will return.
They have kept my change without asking multiple times and I've also waited 20 mins for a take out coffee more than once good food trash service
Food was good and reasonably priced - especially for the locale. However the service is what made the experience really enjoyable.
Diego went above and beyond in accomodating myself and my two daughters (both under two). It was busy (around 9am), but he took the time to make sure we were comfortable (including an oversized double pram). We will be back soon!
Food quality isn't up to scratch for the area and the price charged. I've been a few times and each time I've left a little underwhelmed.
