Fumanlou Restaurant reviews
37Tasty food for a great price.the soup was beautiful and ribs and braised beef tasty. Recommend
Tbh, i don't think the chef has the ability to cook fresh seafood dishes compared to the other Cantonese restaurants i have visited in the past 20 years.
The service is good, we temporarily increased the number of diners, and the head waiter changed two big tables for us. The taste is not bad, but I feel that the variety is a little less, and there are no classic morning tea varieties such as white sugar cake and egg powder.
Went on a Sunday lunch time without any booking, managed to get a table (it wasn’t busy when we came about 11.45am) but the guy said we have to be out before 1 and that’s fine. I have to say he was quite scary, the staff dont smile and look grumpy. There was the paper menu you have to tick, and I would say eventhough some things are in English, some aren’t, I had to use translator app to read the menu. Also staff talked to me in Chinese which unfortunately I can’t speak despite looking Chinese. Their English I would say is a limited, and they seem friendlier to guests who can speak the language. The place itself is nice, has quite a few parking spots, the room is spacey with high ceiling, quite bright. Also on the table next to the window has pot of hot water which is connected to a gallon and hot water system which is cool, so you can refill your own teapot. After ordering, a staff actually went around offering deep fried pork thing, I was quite surprised because I thought everything has to be ordered. Tried it anyway and it was nice. Tried a few things like siu mai, prawn dumplings, Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce, sticky rice. Cant fault the foods, i think they are good quality and cooked well. Unfortunately their chili oil was so bland, no taste at all, so had to ask for soy sauce too. Also strange that they forgot the chili oil after we asked like twice. Overall ok meal, but service could be better and I would say not very Caucasian people friendly, or anyone who cant speak Chinese. Spent slightly over $25 per person.
We had yum cha ordered from the menu, I did not mind. But very little variety, however can tell that dumplings are in house made, not as salty as most yum cha places. Good for the oldies.
Do NOT recommend. Yum Cha service is order off a menu and wait 45 mins. Waitstaff lack initiative need to wave multiple times to gain their attention, it seems other ethnicities were a higher priority. Food is ok average. Highly disappointed as the previous owners were amazing with great service and food.
Quaint place with classic Southern Chinese cuisine. I don't have too much to say about the dishes, they are of good quality for the price. Seafood selection is decent and the atmosphere is just a little bit stale when I visited during lunch time on a week day. Steamed fish took slightly longer than expected but it did taste fresh and tender.
This restaurant is average at best. I had an odd beef dish that seemed like fried brisket, it was tough and inedible and had a strong baking soda taste. Typically, you'd use steak in this king of dish. I returned the dish and asked not to be charged for it, which was accepted by the kitchen. However, I feel that you shouldn't have to return dishes because they are so awful. There are much better Cantonese restaurants close-by. Don't bother with this one until they make more effort with their cooking.
My family and I went for yum cha today, but we were so disappointed. The choices on dim sum was pitiful. Popular dim sum such as chee cheong fun, egg tart, taro dumplings, char siu puff and other common snacks were all absent. The quality was very poor. I reckon the hargow and siu mai that are selling at Coles are much more better than them. The charge is not honest, the ginger prawn dumplings on the menu is $8.50, but the bill is $10.50, and the soy sauce fried noodle menu is $13.80, but it charges $16.80. Never will go back.
This Chinese based restruant is disgusting the dumplings they gave us had a sour taste to them and the noodles they gave to us were drenched in oil which resulted in my family members vomiting. The dishes were overpriced compared to other restaurants. Our meal costed $75 but even after that my whole family were still hungry.
Serves good Cantonese cuisine. We love to order their traditional Cantonese style soup which we can only find in this place.
Authentic Cantonese cuisine, very good food and nice ambience. Clean and tidy set up.
A must try.
Great service. Staff attentive and helpful. Food was excellent as usual although there has been a price increase. ️
Had a mother day yum cha here and booked in advance for 15 people. Turned up and had to be split into two tables, not ideal but not a deal breaker.
Food service was disorganised, even when trying to speak directly with the waitress, it was a struggle ordering as they could not even get the order right as portions changed ad hoc I.e went from 4 plates to 2 plates. If we had waited for the normal carts being pushed around I think our lunch experience would of turned into dinner as it was that slow and all the dumplings were cleared after reaching the first table in the restaurant let alone being carted around.
Food was average if not below par and the slow service and time between dishes made it worse. The only redeeming quality is there was parking on site.
Best to go elsewhere.
Yum cha was delicious and flavourful and cheaper than other yum cha places. The zhaliang was actually crunchy unlike other places that serve it soggy. The har gao was also very flavourful! Would recommend to go here for a lunch yum cha! However, they do charge for boiling water unlike normal restaurants that usually do not charge extra for water. Service was efficient and quite friendly too.
Food was amazing! Biggest surprise was the wine list. All round cracking venue. Authentic Gaungdong cuisine
If your not Asian it's very hard to understand what they are talking about and you end ordering dishes you have no idea what it is, the food was quite bland and uninteresting, won't be going back anytime soon.
You're bangers, coming back again. Reasonably priced food. Five dishes ran up my group about 120.
Very disappointed with the food. Seafood was not fresh. Taste like rubber. That goes with the rest of the dishes. Service was very average. Not recommended.
Don't bother. I don't think this place will last long. Sorry to say.
Foods are very ordinary, dimsum comes really slow, and i think they mix water into tge chill paste (or may be a very ordinary chill paste!).
The box seat is pain, too deep that you cant rest on your back, , table is too far have to lean forward, and legs cant stretch at all, very uncomfortable setup.
