Fresh Chilli Deli reviews
47 We ordered 2x grilled chicken banh mi's and the best way to describe them was average.
The roll itself was delicious, soft yet crunchy. Unfortunately the filling is lacking with hardly any meat or veg and just the overall flavour was okay. It wasn't bad by any means, but after trying some banh mis from the likes of other places such as Mr and Mrs banh mi in Richmond & Luke's Vietnamese in Moonee Ponds, this place definitely falls short for me.
Stumbled upon this place after visiting an art exhibition nearby. We didn't realize we were actually at the head of the queue and the owner enquired 'First time? ' We had a chuckle with him and ordered coffees and Banh Mi. The baguettes were superb and the filling (marinated tofu and salad) first class. Coffee was hot and tasty. Highly recommended.
It was busy, but the service was great and surprisingly quick.
Pork belly Bahn mi was good, not great. I wouldn't go back
One of the better Banh Mi places in Melbourne. I drive all the way from Springvale just to grab the Crispy Pork Banh Mi. The sauce is what ties it all together and elevates it to the next level. Bread is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.
The lady Called out number only in English (normally english then vietnamese So i left
My 65yrs old mum stay to wait for the food).
My mum had to ask another customer for help bcuz they just called in english.then my mum told the lady that she doesn't understand english so she didnt know it was her turn.then the lady said to my mum that "you're so pity" "tội nghiệp Cô vậy". Oh man we dont need her to say "tội nghiệp" to my mum,
just need to say "tội nghiệp" to herself bcuz I was
Just wondering how much english can that lady speak, so chảnh.
No idea why people flock here when there's a better shop a few steps away
Also they charge for pate
Our go-to Bahn Mi store in St Albans. There’s usually a long line from morning to lunch time.
Bahn Mi flavours are good but could be better as they skimp on sauce which makes the banh mi so dry. This branch is better than the Sunshine one.
They also offer Vietnamese coffees and other vietnamese breads and pork buns.
Definitely no "friendly service with a smile". They just want you to quickly order, quickly pay and quickly get out of there. I go there on the rate occasion that I park nearby. Thankfully the rolls are good.
The crackling pork with broken rice us the best.
Sadly and disappointing.the new addition of caramelized onions in the rolls was a disaster.
If you're after a banh mi in the west, this is the place to go (or their sister store in Sunshine). The bread is always crispy, their meat packed full of flavour and the veggies are always fresh.
I also love their ordering system of having a dedicated register and then a dedicated window for making the banh mi. It makes things go so much quicker, which is very important considering how busy they are.
I'd recommend their Pate Chaud as well, great little pork pastry that goes excellently with your banh mi.
Caveat for all of those not use to this style of service, sometimes the staff may be rude out of cultural differences or genuinely so, it's a bit a part of the parcel to be honest. Take it or leave it, the food is still great.
Warning ️ I have been to the St. Albans shop for many years but today may be the last. I purchased meatballs in a tub and 2 Tiger rolls and a little bit of chilli, BUT as usual they are busy another woman tried putting chilli in for the first woman and she dropped the whole meatball tub to the floor. “Troi Oi “ is what she said and then cleaned up and noticed that she used the same tub and 2 meatballs in it, proceeds to re fill with meatballs. I said that’s from the floor and she said it didn’t fall out!
Realising I caught her she decided to make a new tub of meatballs. Guess where the other tub ended up? Back for sale for the unknown.
Makes me think that this shop is not clean and hygienic as it should… my advice is not to go there anymore and if you do keep a close eye on your food preparation… This is how cross contamination and food poisoning starts.
When one crackling pork roll is not enough, you gotta keep coming back for more and more! The best in the area, with a line out the door to prove it!
Love crisp Salad banhmi here
Always tasty crispy and well stuffed
Have got a lot of varieties of banhmi here
But crisp salad is best
Very affordable place
Good service too
Listens too whatever we ask for
First time I tried this place was great (however service absolutely shocking)
Today was sour second visit and I can say I won’t be going back place was messy salads and meat mixing together everything everywhere.overcharged me, got all 3 bhan mi orders wrong and there was nothing in them! Hardly any salad or chicken /pork and forgot to put pate and butter. Literally gave us bread with a bit of cold chicken 3 pieces of shredded carrot and some coriander with half a slice of cucumber and few little pieces of onion. $21 for 3 rolls of nothing!
Honestly won’t ever go back.
Very bad service. Rushing me out the door. All about money these people are. No customer service what so ever!
Best Banh Mi place in the West. Been to many banh mi places all over Melbourne and this local gem will always stay close to my heart.
Hardworking and fast-moving staff at Fresh Chilli Deli (Banh Mi Thanh Lan) wake up at 6am to make your favourites fresh out their huge oven. They sell amazing baguettes, tiger breads and pastries, but most importantly their banh mi.
Great to enjoy on a stroll, picnic, after gym or lunch break. For a variety of banh mi for $6, that’s a win for anyone.
Out of their banh mi options, my favourite are the mixed ham, crispy pork belly (thit heo quay), and BBQ pork meatballs (nem nuong). The star of the banh mi has got to be their crispy fresh baguettes. Love how the pillowy carbs soak the sauce they drizzle on. Also their liver pate and creamy sauce is what makes their banh mi so good.

Top notch Banh Mi, only negative is their vietnamese ice coffee ($3.50), I literally paid for cup of ice.and very little coffee.
Had a mixed ham banh mi and it was awesome the roll is nice and crunchy but still soft and tastes fresh. Next time I will try the bbq pork as a friend highly recommended it and the other rolls I've tried have been great so far. They don't disappoint with their taste and quality.
The bread rolls are always good here in St Albans! If you want it to be more tasty order it with extra pate and it will go well with the cold meat roll!
Have eaten here before usually pretty good, but hasn't been pleasant last couple of times, 1 roll had no butter or pate, 1 roll had tiny bit of butter and pate. Seems like keep forgetting to put it in because just too busy.
