Weird and wonderful flavours from a shopfront that food safety regulations seem to have overlooked. Peak Fitzroy weirdness.

I had the Guava Sorbet and Tawny Port, prunes and butter and both were delicious! Will definitely be back to try some more flavours.

Fluffy Torpedo is a quirky, innovative and sustainable ice cream shop located on Smith Street in Fitzroy (and soon - Sydney Road, Brunswick!). Their aim is to create wealth for effective charities, inspire creativity and provide delicious experiences. They donate 50% of profits to effective charities like @thelifeyoucansave - you can even pick up their free book in store.

The location was designed and built by the owners, the pine wood found in the walls and floor of the previous tenancy was recycled and reused to make the furniture. The floor consists of exactly 200kgs of sour strap lollies, hand laid over five days, then covered with epoxy resin.

You can find the menu hanging on the wall, each flavour with a short, witty description, embroidered onto its own piece of Victorian linen (upside down plaques indicate they are sold out). Taste as many flavours as you like, from stainless steel sticks, the staff are extremely patient and happy for you to try as many as you like!

We were mind blown by how well their interesting combinations worked! You probably won’t shut up about how much it tastes like the real deal the entire time you’re having it.

My favourites were the Orange and Poppyseed Cake Batter, Real OJ and Mount Zero EVOO and Buttermilk Pancakes Maple Syrup. These were tame selections, i also liked Miso Cinnamon White Chocolate and Salted Chilli Pineapple Coconut Vinegar Sorbet. You can also grab a 5- pack of their Choc Tops!

Plenty of vegan options too. Easily in my top 3 favourite ice cream spots in Melbourne now, I’ll be a regular. You can actually submit flavour combinations on their website and if they make it, they’ll send you free tubs!

Amazing chocolate sorbet ice cream! You will not be able to tell it is non-dairy. It was our best ice cream of the trip. I would recommend this place to anyone. Two thumbs up!

Please see constructive feedback below:

Btw - I’ve noticed a number of issues raised three months ago and sorry to say, but they have not been rectified and are still occurring.

So - firstly it’s ICEcream, not WARMcream, which is what I got. The reason for this is that the four people in front of me took 20 minutes to try just about every flavour, with the staff having absolutely no regard for the rest of society waiting. That amount of wait time is justified for a long queue; not because two couples were being encouraged to continue over sampling.

Secondly once I was served, there was no apology or acknowledgement that it had been so long. Not to mention there being no waffle cones… at 7.30pm…?

Massive second thoughts on coming back until you have this under control.

Love the concept of this new ice cream store! It’s perfectly designed for the location that it’s in as well. Loved all the unique flavours and how the staff were so happy for you to try as many as you needed without issue. They were also helpful when asking for advice about complimentary and contrasting combos to try. I was so blown away with how much I loved the honey soy ice cream and the raspberry balsamic! Can’t wait to come and try out some more flavours.

My favorite Smith st.new addition so far! The decoration is nice. Their icecream flavours are so fun and unique! They actually pull out the tastes really well too. The orange cake flavour tastes exactly like the cake! My favorite is miso, cinnamon, white choc, ohhh so much dept in this flavour - the saltiness amd umami of miso, the hint of cinnamon, love it! The marshmellow-grapejelly is fun to eat as well! It's so kiddy! The texture is like hybrid between marshmellow and icecream - very interesting.

Had the durian and dark choco. Amazingly smooth and delicious. The durian flavour was on point, almost like eating real durian!

You’ve tried Effective Altruism, now try Delicious Altruism! This highly ethically festooned icecreamery has very good and creative ice creams indeed; my scoops of Salted Liquorice and Chocolate Mud Cake were extremely nice. And a bit of the purchase price went to The Life You Can Save! Mmm … altruism…
