Sadly I have been going here for years! The last owners Anna and her family were absolutely amazing since they left the new owners have not followed the same recipes everything is overcooked! The potato cakes were the best ever now they are dry overcooked and shrivelled up! Have tried them 4 times since Anna left but sorry will not be going back! You have to repeat yourself on the phone, meat is dry! Please come back Anna! Will now have to go to Wheelers Hill or Brandon Park drive

We ordered the family pack, a fish burger and 6 onion rings for 5 people and had plenty of leftovers.the food was great - everything was crisp and seasoned well.the owner was nice and gave us a complementary large drink for melbourne cup day too! He was also sweet and cooked everything himself - definitely worth visiting if you want to sate your cravings for fish and chips!

Our favourite fish and chips by far! The fish is nice and thick? The batter is thin & crisp and not soggy at all. We moved houses so are no longer locals but will still make the effort to get fish & chips from here as we haven’t found any places near our new house that is as good as Flake Shack. The staff are also lovely.

I’ve been a long time customer, the lamb souvlaki has always been a go too for me. Always consistent good gyro. I usually eat a souvlaki or Hsp every week, 1 month ago I orderd my usual Hsp the meat was all grissle fatty and tough meat. I assumed it was a bad batch of meat so I hadn’t orderd up until today. 80% of the lamb was not edible very unhappy with my meal, please ho back to your old supplier. I understand these are hard times I’m happy to pay abit more money for quality meals like I’m used to, but you have lost me as a customer if this is wat your serving now

If you are looking for a good piece of fish in the springvale area, this is the place to go. I normally find most places to have oily fish but The Flake Shack batter was crispy and light. I also recommend the Hamburgers. Will definitely return.

Love it here, the food is very clean never oily. The staff are always happy with a friendly greeting.

Totally ruined by new owners gyros was raw at 7pm no one speaks english why do people buy businesses they have no idea about very dissapointed another good take away shop ruined by wrong owners.

1 Australian staff member the other 4 staff were Asian, speaking in Asian. Feel sorry for the Australian staff there. Service not bad. Food is quite nice.

Dropped in here for a late lunch and opted for flake and chips with chips to be crispy. I can't fault the generous portion size of both fish and chips. The fish was a large fillet and well cooked while the chips were exactly as ordered and the tatare sauce was good but not enough capers for my taste. The only minus point was the excessive salt (I forget to ask for minimum salt due to heart condition) on the chips.

I always get my hamburgers from Wanda fish and chips but they are closed on Sundays.so went to the Flack Shack and the hamburgers was disgusting wasn't cooked properly and the cocktail salad was pretty bad as well.they were that bad i threw the hamburger and cocktail salad in the bin.i give them 2 start because i have bought flake from them and thats very good

The Flake Shack has been on Police Rd for approximately 20 years or so. I popped in the other day because I was craving some fried fish and the store I usually go to (Wanda Catch — which is also good) wasn’t open.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that they had no less than 10 different types of fish on offer! I grabbed myself a fried Flake and fried Hake and both were great, although slightly too salty so next time I’ll probably ask for no salt. The home made tartare was decent too.

Overall a pretty standard fish and chips and not bad by any stretch. I would say prices are reasonable, a bit more expensive than Wanda Catch I think.

For the third time in 3 weeks ordered barramundi on our Friday night ritual. On the second time ordering barramundi and getting a different fish I thought I’d give them a call and ask before ordering again. They were a dinner adamant that the fish was a barramundi. After ordering fir a third time it definitely was not. Stop charging premium for fish you don’t know you are serving. Gave you 3 tries and still got it wrong. Worst part is the dishonesty. Be honest and I could’ve ordered something different. Il never be returning to your shop again as well as many family and friends in the area. Simple honesty would’ve gone a long way.

A reasonable shop with a good menu. The hamburgers looked impressive. The potato cakes were thin and oily, with oil the dominant flavour.

What beautiful freshly cooked seafood it's crispy and full of flavour a must try if you like fish and chips

Solid fish and chip shop consistent in quality food, flake, potato cakes, dim sims and chips are beautiful - not a huge fan of the hamburger, change up the patty and crisp up that bacon and it'll be a winner.

Really disappointed
Chips were tasteless
Hamburger was dripping with oil
Dim Sims were full of oil.

Best fish and potato cakes I have eaten in years! Lovely thin crispy batter on both and everything tasted really fresh. Fast and courteous service.
