First Choice Liquor Port Melbourne reviews
17Refused to price match with a liquor store in South Melbourne. Was told in no uncertain terms by the man who served me they only price matched with Dan Murphy and Vintage Cellars. Checked the website when I got home and that doesn’t appear to be the case. Other staff have price matched and when I told him that he said ‘well they shouldn’t have’. Won’t be shopping there again.
They have unique range, great prices/deals, great friendly customer service everything is chilled means that you can go and grab and drink straight away. I’m so happy about that:)
Great store in port Melbourne and was very impressed by a staff member who noticed I was looking to get a trolley but had no change. He sorted it with ease, thank you.
Just went in there, was refused service because I showed my hole punched learners along with my temporary proof of P’s drivers license paper (which has been stamped and signed by vic roads), as my new drivers license hasn’t arrived in the mail yet. Legally this is to be accepted and I was told to leave by a rude staff member who wasn’t even serving me, very unhappy. Won’t be visiting here again.
For a great selection on wines, beers, spirits and more, meet the team at First Choice Liqour. They are always helpful, and can easily navigate you to whatever item you need in their gigantic store. Its immaculate. So tidy and clean, products are easy to find and staff are very helpful.
I tried to buy two bottles of NON-ALCOHOLIC Margarita mix. The cashier asked for ID and I asked him if I needed ID if I was buying non-alcoholic beverages. He said yes. I'm 30. THIRTY! And I don't pass for 18? No one else in the line was asked for ID but me. So I went home to get my ID and by the time I got back, one bottle of my mix was sold. I ended up going to Woolies to buy their off the shelf margarita mix.
Decent selection, large shop and not packed like the other Bay st shops. That's definitely nice.
Keep an eye out for specials, they seem to change daily - picked up Lindeman Pinot Grigio $4.65 bottle - Good value for money quafable
Good selection of stuff - and I completely respect being asked to show my ID, but I’m 26 and whenever I go there I’m checked a minimum of two times for ID, on occasion it’s been three. This never happens anywhere else. It makes me feel super unwelcome when I’m checked at the door, approached again when I’m browsing, then told to show my ID again at the check out - all in the span of a couple of minutes, for a 6 pack, when I have wrinkles. Like cmon.
Under utilised off license in Port Melbourne. Got some good deals now and again. Worth checking out before going to Dans in South Melbourne.
Large collection of quality Champagne, Wines and Spirits catering for all $$ budgets. Friendly and helpful staff.
Good prices for sure and better than average range. Dislike the fact they do not provide carry bags.
I completely disagree with DDD. First Choice is my go to liquor store and I find the staff knowledgeable and friendly. They promote the $10 specials behind the counter because it's a chain promotion and it's as cheap as chips. $10 for a sixer of Four Pines? Don't mind if I do. More fool you if you don't indulge. Dan Murphy's is pricey, especially if you don't have the loyalty card, which I still don't despite emailing them to request a new one.
Iv been to the Port Melbourne store many times and find the setup very similar to Dan Murphys which is good.
The difference is the staff are very unprofessional.
They are loud, talk about their private life to each other infront of the customers.
At times i feel they are intoxicated.
They constantly push their discounted products behind the counter and are more expensive than Dan Murphys.
Get some good staff and your 50% there
Came in to purchase was stoped while I had just entered the store by a teenage look female staff member with low commuication skills saying I cant come in as they are closing still had many customer in the store when I said I'll be 30 seconds was repeatedly told cant come in! Zero customer service, very poor.
Love 1st Choice. Frequent there about 4 times a week. Anthony looks after us, suggests new products and will always price match Dans when he can. He's really knowledgeable & friendly
