Really yummy vegan options! It’s my go to cafe in Northcote. Coffee is delish and the staff are so friendly.
Outside is the perfect dog friendly court yard. Best vegan breaky in Northcote.

I have been to all cafes up and down High St and this one is by far the best! Every time I have come here I have felt welcomed and the coffee is amazing. I always come back as there menu is full of so many options and very creative I love it! When people ask me where to go I always tell them to try Field Black their chilli scramble is the best Ive ever had.

The food here just wasn’t good! Really surprised to see that recent reviews are positive, as we wondered whether it must have changed hands recently. We ordered the Reuben and the Japanese okonomiyaki and whilst the okonomiyaki was ok-ish, the Reuben was awful! Fried fast and high instead of toasted low and slow, awful sauerkraut, inedible pickles on the side and chips dusted with what tasted like some kind of strange, cheap powdered cheese? ! Even the mayo on the side didn’t seem right - perhaps just very cheap. When I told the waitress we didn’t enjoy the Reuben, she said the people before us had loved it… Would not recommend this place and we will not return. $54 down the drain!

We chose this cafe for brunch last Saturday. It was pleasantly busy.
The menu is extraordinary - right down my alley of unusual savoury selections. I found it very difficult to decide but settled on Brunch Okonomiyaki. I could have easily had Sauteed Wild Mushrooms which was my husband's choice.
Both meals were generous in size, and both were delicious. My only criticism with the Japanese pancake was that it was too thick in the centre making it a bit stodgy so I just left it. The flavours were a delightful combination.
Coffees were great too!

Delicious. This is the best word to describe the food and drink at Field Black. The quality of the foods service, and atmosphere make this one of the best spots to visit for brunch for sure. I highly recommend the Turkish Breakfast but be sure to bring your appetite as it is a hearty endeavor.

Review is based on Take-away coffee.
The Piclo coffee we had was exceptional, great flavour and strength.

Had the most delicious breakfast. I was struggling to order as the menu was so enticing, but settled on the Benny Stack and my fiance got the Turkish breakfast. Both were off the charts amazing. Legit best Benny in recent memory.

Cozy Cafe with both traditional and more "experimental" Cafe food. We can highly recommend the smoothie selection. Coffee is strong and rich without being acidic. Indoor and outdoor seating, though some chairs are more comfortable than others.

Staff are incredibly friendly and during quiet dining times are happy to adjust menu items to be allergen friendly (where possible, keeping in mind shared kitchen equipment)

Bathrooms are not fully accessible for wheelchairs with larger turn radius.

Coffee was good but the food (Mediterranean scramble and Turkish breakfast) was not great and odd combinations. Walnut butter on Turkish bread with the Mediterranean scramble tasted odd. Turkish breakfast felt like a lot of random individual things and didn’t go that well all together.

Saturday morning staff were not inviting at all, didn't see one smile or nice hello. Waited 35 minutes for a tiny piece of bread with 2 eggs on it.

If you say you're open till 3pm on a Sunday, don't push away customers at 2.25pm. I suspect we could have been there at 2pm, and the answer would have been the same. Unreliable.

Food needs a bit of work. I'd start with buttering the toast and making sure avocados aren't overripe

The food is absolutely delicious here. Really fresh ingredients used in interesting ways. And the service is attentive without being intrusive. If I could give it more stars I would.

I took one look at the menu online and had to come here. We’d just returned from Philadelphia where we’d tried a few Philly Cheese Steaks, so we were keen to compare.
Today, we started off with a pot of English Breakfast and a hot chocolate. As usual, rarely do people make a hot chocolate actually hot and this was no different. Take away coffees available.
I ordered the Shakshuka which was a good portion size and beautifully presented. Taste was gently spicy without detracting from the capsicum and pumpkin. Plenty of toasted pita on the side to mop up the sauce.
My friend had the Philly Cheese Steak which he ordered a particular way, straying from the menu. Thank you for the patience of the waitress as he explained how he wanted his brunch. Portion size was excellent and in fact, could’ve taken home half for dinner. Steak was tender and juicy. In USA they have softer rolls and melt the cheese on the grill with the chopped sirloin. This was different but still very enjoyable. As a Philly boy, he was most impressed.
My daughter had the Turkish Breakfast which was packed full of eggs, green olives, halloumi, sujuk, hummus, grilled tomato and pita bread. The portion size was generous and the blend of the different elements brought out a clean taste to the palette of fresh and a well thought out combination.
Field Black caters well for vegetarians, vegans, gluten free and dairy options. Congratulations on providing a flexible food service.
There is indoor and outdoor dining, as well as a covered seating area heading out towards the rear of the building. Seating is at usual tables but also a high bench table that is flooded with light and a stunning floral display (see photos).
Parking out the front has time limits to beware of. Disability friendly. Kids welcome.
Only downside was that the acoustics aren’t great, so at times challenging to have a conversation.
Big shout out to staff who where extremely helpful, fast and efficient. Although the meal took a long time to come out (they were down one chef - thank you Covid), the staff kept us in the loop and checked in with us regularly.
Worth a visit foodies.

Field Black was an excellent breakfast choice for our family of four. Highlights were the Turkish breakfast, French Toast and Philly Cheesesteak. The Mexican Bowl was also good but they accidentally left the raw onion in the salsa when we asked for no onion. The menu is particularly vegetarian friendly and also caters for gluten free.

Went here for brunch today. I was lured in by the gorgeous photos on their website menu, particularly the french toast. However, what we got was nothing like what is shown in the photos. The french toast we got was a single slab with blueberries on top and some mango puree and mini meringues (which looked like they came from a packet) placed in a circle. The mascapone was dry, powdery and weird. The presentation was really poor and lacklustre. The eggs benedict was good but the hashbrown was not cooked well and was starchy. The hollandaise was hidden under the salad for some reason. The coffee was bland and nothing special. We were so dissapointed we didn't take any photos but I wish we had to show how the food was actually presented, as the photos online are very misleading. Would not return and would not recommend.

The staff who took our coffe orders were very rude. Waited a long time for someone to take our food order. Nobody turned up. I had to get up and call someone. Food was nothing exceptional. Just like another Cafe food.

Amazing, one of the best brunches I've had in Melbourne. Great portion sizes and really tasty. Busy place, but well worth it
