Dr Philip Cheng's clinic at Eyecare Concepts is truly outstanding. He's been looking after my girls for several years, keeping their eyes strong and healthy. His treatments have really worked for them and we are so very thankful for all his help, he's the top doctor in this field. The clinic gets busy especially after school so I recommend parents to book ahead.

Three years ago, when Dr Phillip was still at his smaller shop, we gave him a 5-star. He was patient, personable, and humble. But our most recent experience left an extremely sour and bitter taste, sigh … success may have gotten the best of him. Some months back, we made a follow-up appointment for our daughter and as usual, we received a text message for reconfirmation – to which we rescheduled. Presumably, the scheduling work was done by his staff. However, on the original appointment date, we were informed that we didn't turn up and had to be charged $50 for a no-show. We tried to reason with him and even provided evidence of the rescheduling but he became defensive and even forceful on the charge and (this is what really triggered) … he continued his self-defense for his overlook to the point of saying hurtful things that connote – don’t expect special treatment because you think you are loyal customers … What nonsense! We were not even expecting anything and to be accused of being “entitled”… for $50? , engaging in an argument with a loyal customer? (btw the last time I checked, there is still the concept of a customer loyalty program – not to scold your loyal customers). Only after some intense discussion that the $50 be regarded as a credit for future consultation. You tell me, how odd will it be to consult him again face to face? We terminated our relationship and got back a refund.

Sam's observations are accurate. It’s unfortunate that the bedside manner for children is so disappointing, leading to an experience that makes them not want to return. Not a pleasant experience at all overall.

If you have young children, don’t take them here. Phillip, the optometrist, does not have very good interactions with young children. I took my 3 year old daughter here for her first eye examination only to be met with statements of pure condemnation. During the examination, there was no offers of encouragement or nurturing only bone cold disengagement such as calling my daughter “unresponsive”, saying forcefully “just keep your eye open, it’s not that hard” and “you are really making this difficult”. For a centre that prides itself with dealing with children Phillip should look at his own bed side manner. I don’t think my daughter would have been the first child he has seen in his career, but it was traumatising for both her and myself. I will gladly say I won’t be back.

Dr Philip Cheng is an incredible doctor. We thank him so much for all that he has done to treat our daughter suffering from myopia. He is really knowledgeable and experienced he spent much time explaining to us about her condition, the eye treatments and the processes involved. The results have been amazing. Our daughter has high myopia her glasses number kept increasing until we found Dr Cheng. Now her eyesight is stable with her orthok lens treatment and she is so much more confident than before when she was hiding behind her glasses. Dr Cheng and his team have been so helpful and patient to us. We have recommended many friends who have children also with myopia. This clinic is the best. Thank you!

Philip is really experienced and one of the best optometrist in Melbourne. I have been going here for years and I would recommend this place any day. He always listens and addresses all my concerns and recommends the best advice & products for my eyes.

Apparently this place specialises in eyecare for children. First lady we dealt with was great, but the second guy, dr phillip, was rude and spoke down on my 4 yo son who was having his first eye exam. He even questioned why I was there with a judgemental tone in his voice. Never returning here

Dr Philip Cheng is an amazing optometrist! Our daughter has seen many optometrists over the years, at OPSM, Specsavers and an eye specialist and finally we found Dr Cheng through a referral. If only we had come to this clinic earlier! Our daughter has myopia that kept getting worse and worse and no other doctor has been so good at looking after her, very knowledgeable in explaining to us all the options to treat her. He patiently fitting her with night OK lenses that have been very successful at helping her see clearly without glasses and also now has stopped the worsening of her eyesight. We are so blessed to have Dr Cheng looking after our whole family now, and we refer our all friends with kids to see him too. Thank you so much!

As a family all with bad eyesight, I’m so glad I found Dr Phil who is more proactive in his methods to prevent eye sight deterioration in my 3 children. He wouldn’t just recommend treatments that were financially benefit to him, he was open and honest when we questioned his technology & methodology and happy to provide research papers to support (yes we were that kind of annoying patient). He was professional and patient throughout it all and we are so grateful to have found our family optometrist!

Not happy with the service provided by Dr Phillip Cheng. It more like one hour QA time instead of professional consultation. Definitely not come back.

Doctor Philip's professionalism and his incredibly thorough examinations are highly commendable. I suffered with very rare condition of eye problems since young, he listened and provided advise to my concerns. Even during lockdown he was able to send through the contact lenses within days. The most fitted and comfortable lens I've had in twenty+ years.

I have very high myopia. I feel very anxiety to find a good optometrist. Those shops that are keen to make profits make me feel scary. Luckily I did a correct choice to visit Philip Cheng for my eye test. He did a very thorough and comprehensive examination of my eyes without any rush. He has almost newest technology for eye testing.

Philip is also very friendly and kind. It’s very easy to communicate with him. He recommended me to wear contact lenses as my heavy glasses are not very comfortable for my daily life and helped me try the contact lenses with great patience. For my backup spectacles, he gave me good suggestions to make sure it fit me perfectly. I would definitely visit Eyecare Concept again for my regular test.

After years of going to optometrists at the shopping centres and my daughter’s eyesight progressively getting worse, 2020 was the last straw - remote learning sped up the myopia. I researched for days on alternative pathways instead of the run-of-the-mill typical recommendation of higher grade glasses, and came across Philip and his practice. All 5 star reviews, from parents with the same concerns I had. So even though it takes us nearly an hour to get to him, we went for a consultation and the rest is history - within 6 months my daughter is completely confident in using Ortho-Ks and no longer has to wear glasses, ever. Thank you Dr Philip, really appreciate everything you’ve done for us!

Fantastic place to take your children. I thought my son would not be able to wear contact lenses. We visited an Optometrist in a shopping centre and they could not teach him to wear them, leaving his eyes red and sore. If you have children and you want to take them somewhere professional, take them here. It is the only place I will go from now on.
