I found the staff at front desk to be rude and not at all friendly and welcoming. As a visitor of a family member it's upsetting to see that.

Our mother, a 93 years old lady, was admitted to Epworth Brighton Rehabilitation Centre from Sandrinham hospital after a hip surgery.
As a family we were in a horrible distress to see her suffering and struggling with every move. Every task was a challenge and pain: mobility, transfer to bed and from bed, etc.
After three weeks of rehabilitation, just a couple of days ago, our mother was discharged home. The progress in recovery is absolutely amazing.
We could see mum's improvement and transformation every day thanks to the hard work of all care team members.
A very special thank you goes to Dr Damian Mescher. His professionalism and expertise, care, kindness are exceptional. So attentive to every detail and so thorough. Cannot thank you enough, doctor!
Another big thank you to Occupational Therapist Mahak Jalan and physio Rosie for helping mum to reach the maximum level of independence before her discharge. Your support is so appreciated!
Thank you to each and everyone for your help and support:
Care, Nursing, physio staff
Kitchen staff (food's delicious)
Cleaning staff
You are all wonderful!

This hospital is all ways short of staff and food for a private hospital is a public standard hospital.medicine all given at different times.head nurse came to introduce on the last day that I was leaving only to ask me to tell me case for me time here and to tell me off for smoking.but the head nurse was smoking herself. They told me that they had rang 9 times but no one was answering.my case manager told me that she had voice mail.so that is a lie they told me.this place needs a massive amount of work to do in many way I'm so sorry to say this but it's the only way
is to say something.all so not one off my 3 doctor's where not even told that I was here. I was sent home with no discharge papers.and medicine that is not to be taken if your blood pressure is under a 100 how do I no that if I do have a machine and medicine that was not run passed my addition Dr John chow

My mother spent just over 2 weeks here, just came hone on New Years Eve. The facility was beautiful the staff where all very friendly & kind towards my mum and towards myself at all times. The meals she was served where fresh and amazing. My mum was a bit sad to leave there and it will be the place i will always send mum to if she needs to be in rehab again. Loved there visitors free coffee machine as well, cappuccinos as much as you want

Traumatic Experience
Firstly my room was fine except the aircon didn't work first 2 days and whilst they eventually fixed mine several other rooms were still broken. The facility is run down, for example, I would expect a rehab facility who bothered to have outdoor hand rails, to ensure the ground was relatively flat, instead they have small old pavers each at a different angle, making it unsafe for most patients to use.
Epworth has been known for exceptional food, but even the head nurse will tell you it's hit and miss as there's no consistency between hospitals - for me, food was average public hospital std.
I expected an expensive private rehab facility to customise your rehab to your needs, instead they have a std range of exercises they instruct you to do, walk away, and come back on completion to tell you what to do next (I could have taken instructions online). There is a strict 'no hands on approach' so the attention and hands on assistance you receive at a typical physio clinic is not delivered at this rehab facility.
Post op I had some unusual and brand new symptoms where I lost some strength in my arms and hands and nerve related issues, which is why it was suggested I go to rehab. From day 1, I told them what I was feeling and requested they push on my trigger points to ease the muscles (exactly what std physio's practice) but they refused. A couple of days later the pain and pressure severely intensified and resulted in my arm, shoulder, upper back to be in a perpetual spasm - for hours! I was sobbing and begged them to push on a couple of trigger points and they would not, I asked why were they so scared to touch me - was it a liability issue and if so, send me to emergency where there are qualified people who will know what to do - again they refused. Instead nurses watched on for several hours as I was crying in pain and pleading for them to help.they fed me pills every hour to see which one might work, until I was just about comatose. Disgracefully prolonging my pain and causing both physical and mental trauma. When breakfast was served, I found I was unable to feed myself (couldn't raise my arms or pick up cutlery) - my muscles had been damaged due to the ongoing spasm. I was now so much worse off for having attended Epworth Brighton. That day my husband came to visit and within 5 mins of him pushing gently on the trigger points, I could actually feel the muscles ease and let go. (Staff giggled and suggested my husband come daily to do this - what the hell was I there for if my husband was going to administer therapy!?)
There were nurse and doctor issues as well which I won't go into, but needless to say I have been traumatised by the experience, by the Nurse Ratched style pill feeding session, lack of care and refusal to be heard.
Also worth noting that Covid hand sanitizing/hygiene was not practiced by all staff, despite there being a video that tells you what their practices are.
So what now? Now I will need to go to a proper physio and be out of pocket into the thousands (have reached my cap) when the physio at the rehab hospital for which I am covered, should have been able to provide thorough treatment.

“Patient Rounding” = disturbances every hour during the day and every two hours at night.
Explain to me.
How is that conducive to patient recovery?
What happened to rest and recover.
You are the Mormons of the hospital wards
And you don’t even bother to knock. You just burst your way in.

Building needs renovation, however, the care is excellent. Physiotherapists were committed, caring and worked with me as a patient on 2 visits, for my recovery, in a most positive manner. Nursing staff were friendly and encouraging.

One of the worst hospital in Melbourne.
The stuffs are so ignorant and rude. Don't tell me I'm wrong. I was there for few weeks and that's what I saw and how I was treated.
Never going back to Epworth.
