El Rincon reviews
49The food was amazing and the service was excellent! Definitely the best Spanish food restaurant.
This is easily the most authentic Spanish restaurant I have been to in Australia (I have lived in Spain and come from a Spanish family) Visiting from Sydney we had to try this place and were not disappointed. Every tapa we ordered was perfect, and they're also the only place I've seen in Australia that gives you a tapa with the drinks you order too (like like do in Spain).
The decor is great and authentic as well, and the service is excellent as well.
The ultimate compliment I can give is that I'm now determined to bring my Spanish grandmother down from Sydney just to try this place.
Great experience at El Rincon tonight. Excellent Sangria on tap, croqueta and paella. Shout out to the waitress who served us tonight; there is a genuine quality to the restaurant that shines in its food and atmosphere.
Very lovely food and drinks menu!
The service is great.
Location is a bit of a let down. The restaurant is quite small and placed near a busy intersection.
A place where they discriminate against you, the waiters treat you badly and take advantage of it to charge you for things you didn't buy. I will never come back.
Really good Spanish food. Excellent sea food paella! Amazing croquet! And really delicious garlic & chili prawns! Quite recommended. I'll come back for sure.
Thanks for serving us so well!
Loved the outdoor pavement seating on a warm Melbourne day. Also indoors. Great service throughout and helpful suggestions. A moderate wine selection and good value. Next time must try their Sangria. Casual and enjoyable.
The service was good, friendly and accommodating. Good guidance was provided by the waiter and his suggestions really assisted us. The wait was a bit too long, but once that paella arrived and we tasted it, all the wait seemed worthwhile. This is probably one of the best paella we have ever had. Sitting outside is not as great as we thought though, too much traffic noise so I would recommend sitting inside.
Very rude in attention. We ordered cheese and embutidos like apetizer and one paella to share and after pay we realized that they charge double (We clearly asked for only one). Food is too expensive and the service is really bad.
Restaurant started off saying they didn't have space for us inside despite us having a booking. Nonetheless, wanted to try the calamari and paella as walked past numerous times. Was not disappointed! Calamari could have been crispier but the flavour was good.
Ordered the squid ink paella and only criticism could be the prawns, if they were bigger better - for what you pay, 55 for 2 pax.
Overall will return, but recommend booking ahead so you get a seat inside.
Not the friendliest bunch, but not the worst either.
This place is amazing, you can get an original Spain food. I love food, service and the the place.
My girlfriends and I have had the best experience! The staff are absolutely lovely and went above and beyond for us and made sure we have had a fun night! We will 100% be back! ️️
We were expecting something else, the tapas were not big, some were disappointing like the mushrooms, the calamari, and the sangria. Need to say the croquetas were greats de as well the octopus Service was good. By improving some of the tapas, size and bringing some additional beers and authentic sangria it will get easily the five starts!
Writing this review as mentioned to Adriana, Hi Adri y familia del rincó!
Just dined in today for a Sunday merienda de tapas. First time to this place by accident, coincidentally named "El Rincón" which to me sounds like the corner as it's located literally on a corner of the Queen Vic Market. This place can get busy but well worth it. Prices may seem high, but to me it's perfect - especially with the food and service. The food is all good. I had only tapas to satisfy my cravings and ate at the bar solo. I love the friendly and inviting atmosphere and good vibes from the rincón family.
I had the croquetas de jamón y setas. The ham is jamón serrano and so tasty and the setas are mushrooms all so good. Every bite of the croquettes had a savoury taste, highly recommend. Don't forget to check the daily specials written in the chalkboard. ¡Están riquisimos! I also had the gambas al ajillo (prawns in garlic sauce) which was so good! The bread just soaked up the sauce of the prawns. Reminds me of home and family, and the deli shops that sell jamón Serrano in Barcelona.
As for drink, la señora con gafas offered me sangría which Adriana, a friendly server, told me that it was house special homemade on tap, and tasted so delicious. Highly recommend the sangría to those who need something to drink while waiting for orders. It wasn't strong which is a huge plus as I am Filipino and very lightweight with alcohol. Moreover, I loved the fruity flavour! Because I received another vasito de sangría, I ordered the la unión perfect since eggplant is one of my favourite vegetables. That dish was also good and came with pickles!
I'm definitely coming back to try other dishes. I saw other customers order paella, and one couple ordered la paella negra (squid ink) which totally took me back home. It really gave me a reminiscent feeling of a typical bar de tapas back in BCN and hearing kitchen Spanish just reminds me of home. Music played is a plus as well. It's a nice groovy collection.
Overall a perfect 5 stars if ever you are looking for Spanish food, this is literally the corner!

El Rincon turns out to be a warm place on a cold evening. We were served by two waitresses and my gosh they were so nice and welcoming, and yes quick. Cheese platter and meat platter was good but the cold Sangria stole the show for me. We also had lovely desserts. It was worth a visit. Who knows I might visit them again if I'm near Victoria Street some other day.
El Rincon is a gem in one of the corners of QV market, Melbourne! We always have a great time at this place as the food, wine and lovely staff's service are consistently at high levels! We were recently there and enjoyed having our lunch while listening to the cool selection of Spanish music! Croquettes and the chorizo are most recommended!:)
This place is UNIQUE.it needs support as I fear it is going to close. They serve authentic but innovative tapas as well as more substantial meals, right in the heart of Vic market. The staff are friendly and will even deviate from the menu to make your happy. Medium price. Don't miss out!
Most amazing Spanish food in Melbourne! The mushroom & truffle croquettes are a must! Excellent customer service. Can't wait to come back
Dined here just prior to latest lockdown. Really nice place with authentic spanish feel, friendly service and great tapas! Planning to return with friends as soon as we come out of shutdown.
Amazing Spanish food! Authentic flavours and well priced. Very friendly service. Will be back. Highly recommend.
