Yesterday late evening I stopped here to get petrol. When I went in to pay, what I thought began as standard small talk with the worker behind the counter quickly became something else as he started making comments on my outfit and questioning my night. I was made to feel extremely uncomfortable but remained polite. As I rushed to leave he called out "oh my god, look at that" (referring to me) among what sounded like other derogatory mumbles. I power-walked back to my car and felt completely unsafe. I wasn't going to say anything but I'm angry that I will now never feel safe or comfortable filling up at this local station. Businesses have a pretty basic duty of care to cater to their customer's right to feel safe at their establishment. I did not feel safe and I urge other women not to attend this station. I am also sending a complaint to head office. Being catcalled by staff at a petrol station - or anywhere else - is putrid behaviour. And, not that it should matter, but my outfit was quite conservative and completely covered me.
