Ecco Gusto Italiano - Restaurant reviews
20 Beautiful Italian restaurant in the heart of South Yarra. The food was delicious and the service impeccable.
We heard new management has taken over the place and I need to congratulate them on lifting up Ecco to it's former glory. We will definitely be back.
Came here for our work Christmas dinner banquet a few weeks ago. The food was fresh and delicious but pity there was barely any of it. E.g for a table of 8 adults we had the following:
1 small entree of olives,
2 scant antipasto plates,
2 small plates of about 6 pieces of THIN calamari,
2 plates of arancini balls - approx 1 ea,
2 standard size pasta bowls of fettuccine with a beef ragu,
2 standard size bowls of gnocchi - half full - this was the total for our table - not each for $75.00 per head. I felt obliged to only take 2 forkfuls of each fettuccini and gnocchi so as everyone could eat some! No dessert. Drinks not included. (We were a party of 22 but just mentioning the meals we were served on our table). Left hungry. And the meals were served very late. I would not recommend a banquet bc it is so NOT worth it! Drinks were pricey but prob standard. E.g cocktail around $14- 18.
Lovely atmosphere. Classic Italian, retaining its soul. Lovely lamb ragu pappardelle and the gnocchi was also gorgeous. I paired my ragu with a Primitivo - a soft Italian red. My wife and 1 year old toddler sat down for dinner. The toddler drank no primitivo. But he slept well anyway. Highly recommend to couples, families, and anyone who enjoys uncompromisingly soulful Italian.
A simply beautiful evening celebrating our first wedding anniversary! Scrumptious food, generous servings and reasonably priced, highly attentive and personable staff - and even complimentary champagne for our anniversary. Lovely atmosphere in the outdoor courtyard. A really lovely experience - thank you! We will be back!
Very delicious and authentic Italian food! The waitress Alexandra was amazing! Very kind and great to have a conversation with! Highly recommend tiramisu!
Ordered the gnocchi alla sorrentina for dinner, was probably the best gnocchi I've had in a long time, 10/10. Tiramisu for dessert which was also perfection. Will definitively be coming back here. Atmosphere was a bit quiet, but service was amazing.
Was in Melbourne for two night visiting family! Came both nights! Brilliant, homely proper Italian food and fantastic service! I’ll be back when back in Melbourne! Thank you guys’
Cozy atmosphere. Wood-fire oven in the kitchen added wonderful ambience. Nice pizza and pasta. Duck Ragu and Squid ink pasta were very tasty. Steak was disappointing. Porterhouse steak was cold and the meat tasted below average.
Good food. Have asked for vegetarian gnocchi but got meat one. It was an honest mistake and they apologized and immediately replaced it and reduced the bill. Atmosphere was good.
The staff give excellent service their happy attentive they really are the star in the crown along with the food we will definitely be going back.
Disappointing service.
Forgotten order and long wait time. Had to wait 1.5 hour for a pizza. Came in at 6: 50pm. Pizza got served at 8: 20pm. Was really disappointed as we came from Sydney for a short visit and was expecting authentic Italian food. So every meal experience (and money spent) definitely counts for us. Unsure if worth it.
Although the gnocchi was really pillowy and the manager discounting $10 off our bill … were the only factors that saved this from having a 1 star review.
This place was amazing! I don't normally leave reviews but I had to for this restaurant to give it the credit it deserves. Food was delicious and came out relatively quickly, the service was excellent and the atmosphere was nice! Highly recommend:)
Service and food were superb! We felt like at home, good food, good laughter and good selection of wine. Marie was very friendly and we had an excellent service and a good laughter together. We will definitely come back!
The dinning area is nice, the service was really attentive, the pizzas here are delicious and come out quick, the dough/crust was really good, the lobster pasta on the other hand wasn't that good, the actual pasta used was cheap tasting like 2 min noodles but worse and probably should've used a different pasta for this dish, the lobster was not even visual, all you could taste is the bad pasta with whatever bread sprinkled on top, don't recommend, the espresso martini was 3/4 froth, and the dining area was quite hot with no AC going.
Great food and service. Upstairs seating provided a nice quiet atmosphere, downstairs dining area smelt amazing with the wood fire oven. Didn’t get the pizza this time, but will be back to try it as the focaccia bread in the wood fire oven was epic!
A nice place and authentic Italian place. Pizza is a must to order as it baked from traditional pizza oven! Lots of choice to make from the pizza menu. Try the Ragu pasta with lamb, it was yummy and blend well with a glass of red wine! The grilled beef was great and done well! The homemade bread is really good and we enjoyed it. The calamari is not too bad and prefer more crusty outside. The beef carpaccio with rocket salad is so so… the fried cauliflower is not that great. Prefer no batter use to fry it! The wine was great and enjoy the night with great service.
Parma pizza: recommended, traditional pizza.
Pappardelle lamb shoulder Ragu: Yumm, tender and tasty lamb, handmade Pappardelle.
Pannacota: was alright.
Had the Chianti and Primitivo Italian wines: Chianti was light, and Primitivo was full bodied (my preferred wine)
Service: very warm, famiglia feeling.
Highly recommended.
We as a group of 4 enjoyed a good Italian homestyle meal with good, not over priced Italian wine. Our favourite dishes was the ox cheek and duck ravioli. The staff were very helpful with our choices and service was great. Overall good value for money and we are looking forward to our next visit.
We reserved a banquet (for more than 10 people is a must) and we were missing one person. We were told as we were entering the restaurant that we would have to pay for the person who was unable to make it. This was a disappointment.
Service and ambience was top shelf with Daniel and team making our family dinner celebration special.
