East Melbourne General Store reviews
33Hidden… in a good way. I Run in the area all the time and decided to stop at the end of a long session and grab a much needed coffee. It was sensational. Lovely quiet Saturday morning vibe. Pleasant lady who I assume was the owner served me. Will be back for sure.
Love to drop into this little gem! Great coffee, great food, wonderful staff and a range of everything you could ever need.
Will always try stop for a coffee on my way past.
Thank you.
Lovely lady, friendly service. Best salad sandwich I've had ever. Gluten free bread was so soft and tasty. Nice advice to head down to the park too. Thanks for the lovely lunch.
I'm not sure why I got a different experience to other people by the looks of the reviews, but the manager/owner Lisette was curt and rude. Avoid unless you enjoy painful Karen energy. The rest of the staff were lovely so it was a disappointing experience.
My partner just moved into the neighbourhood so I stopped in today for a coffee and a toastie. Lovely staff, and it's such a cute little shop with a great mix of staples and more eclectic produce. Love the art you're selling too. Will be back for sure!
Yet another lovely relaxed impromptu Ham/Cheese/Tomato toastie with grain mustard, and a coffee today. We are so lucky to have this unique friendly cafe/providore in our midst. Lisette and the staff are always cheery and helpful. They stock great bread, but you have to know which day your favourite comes in to get it while it lasts! Another reason I love East Melbourne.
Don’t know what’s wrong with Harry Hunter, because there is absolutely nothing wrong with our beloved EMGS, Lisette or the coffee. We love plonking down on the couch with a toastie and a cappuccino. The staff are very friendly. Audrey is just wonderful. A great providore with fine and often rare products on offer.
This is a wonderful little gem in East Melbourne. We just moved into the area recently and we are so glad we came across it! The coffee is always great and we love getting a fresh roll or sandwich. Staff are always so friendly and smiley. Thank you!
I have been to this store multiple times. It has a retro feeling to it with a healthy sandwich bar and excellent coffee. They pride on great quality grocery items and promote a lot of products from small businesses from the state. The staff are very helpful and friendly and love a good chat. Lisette, the very sweet and friendly owner has groomed them and taught them well.
PS: Love the plants at the front. Can’t wait for COVID to end so I can sit outside basking in the sun and have a sandwich and a beverage.
The service was so rude and impersonal i wandered why i bothered. I'm keen to support small businesses, but prefer not to feel like garbage juts because i'm not one of the wealthier locals. I'd stop of here before work but have since found places were anyone and everyone is welcome. Coffee service was slow, snappy and cold and they'd basically roll their eyes if you opted to accompany it with food. I had an awful experience at East Melbourne General Store.
The best coffee I had in Melbourne for a long time! Nice place, friendly people and fantastic coffee.
What a treasure of East Melbourne the General Store is! Fresh pastries, sandwiches drinks and coffee. All the staff are friendly and professional and the store is welcoming and well stocked.
Local residents and visitors can enjoy the large variety of products and excellent service. A great place to stop and have a coffee and cake in the sun in the front of the store (when Covid ends!)
I'm happy to support a local business that really does provide a service to the community.
The place looks nice and sells some groceries. It took 20 Minutes to get 3 toasted sandwiches and I was the only person in the store. After receiving the sandwiches they had the wrong ingredients. Will not be going back
Thanks so much for having me Lysette and Justin! Both the owner and staff member were such a delight to be around, they instantly brightened my day! This store has such beautiful offerings and feels like a second home:) I've never had this experience at another convenience store or local supermarket. Very much looking forward to stopping by again.
One of my favourite places in East Melbourne. I often compare it to "Cheers" as everyone knows your name and is so welcoming and friendly. Being someone who is not originally from the city, this personable approach to their service always make me feel right at home - no pretence or fluff. Just good people serving the local community. Unfortunately I think my predecessor has some basic education to complete in Economics, if he thinks a small business (i.e. A General Store) can compete with the buying power of the biggest supermarket chains in the country. Harry clearly has some deep-seeded (potentially iso related) issues, but as a regular (rather than some angry blow in) to the East Melbourne General Store I can verify that the staff, owner and coffee have always been exceedingly pleasant to deal with.
Little store but stocks plenty of pantry items you would expect at a super market although over priced comparatively and staff move at a snail pace. Stay away from the coffee and the owner though, both are horrible to deal with.
Our local store has risen to the COVID occasion and has a huge variety of products to keep us happy and safely near home. A great coffee and pastry served by the friendly staff to take home is always my treat!
What a lovely little shop - old fashioned in a good way, with old fashioned service with a smile. Excellent range of products, including wine, and gourmet groceries. Definitely worth having a look, especially if you are a local!
Open for coffee and snacks after four o'clock. Coffee is well made and the cakes are good. There is a small but well thought out range of groceries and convenience foods. Sandwiches available.
Wonderful little shop, great service and very friendly, excellent coffee. Perfect for breakfast.
