I didn’t expect much at all when I first ordered from this place and wasn’t sure the food was gonna be good too. I was just really hungry but after that I have had their sweet and sour pork from here it turns out in my opinion to be one of the best sweet and sour pork I have ever had. I live in COLLINGWOOD but I come to SUNSHNE to get it take-away from this place. So yummy! I will still continue to come here when I can)

Good Aussie style Chinese. Your typical choices, good quality. Service is friendly. I'd come again

As residents of Caroline Springs, my wife and I are always on the lookout for a nice Chinese restaurant in the Western Suburbs that negates us having to trudge our way into Chinatown in order to get a decent feast.   We have a local favourite - 'Dumpling Wise' at Watergardens that serves up quite a few decent dishes, with their Sichuan influence more akin to our liking however they've slipped in quality in the past year and their lack of a Liquor License or BYO, combined with restricted hours aligned to the shopping centre are also a negative.   Tonight, we thought we'd give this joint a try as the reviews I'd researched have been very positive.

We booked at very late notice on a Friday evening and were advised a table was no problem for 7: 15pm.    On arrival, the restaurant was quite empty which was a tad disconcerting, and we were advised to sit wherever we felt.   The menu is very extensive, and the walls of the place are populated with numerous "Chef Specials" which in accumulation seemed a tad overboard as you feel its an excessive sales pitch as opposed to the Chef providing a list of their most popular 'signature dishes'.   However, we admittedly chose a few dishes from these lists and the results were quite surprising to us.

Firstly, the entree prawn crackers were a tad on the small side.   I feel they could be more generous here.   The Singapore Noodles came next and they were quite lovely.  Terrific flavours and seasoning, however just a tad overcooked for my liking so a little more al-dente next time would be better but still a great dish.    The special "Sizzling Steak" arrived next, and its dark caramelized sauce screamed of a meal that looked as though it was going to be spoilt by rich over sweetness, however it was terrific and the glossy sauce was very well balanced between sweet & savoury, the meat soft and quite tender.   Just a tad disappointed in the lack of vegetables, like some nice steamed broccoli to give some freshness and textural 'crunch' to the dish.    Still, an 8.5/10 and something I'd order again.

The Spicy Pork Spare Ribs came next and were quite tasty.    Good balance of salt & spice, and the pork quite tender.   A little too cautious on the heat though compared to similar dishes we've had in a number of Chinatown restaurants with noticeable dried chili flakes a bit lacking. Last but not least, we ordered the special "Spicy Flounder" and crikey, was this the treat of the night.   If you're a connoisseur of mild salty spices and seafood who doesn't mind a bit of 'rusticness' like a full plate of deep-fried, unboned fish that's been marinated in a lovely sauce resulting in a tasty & crunchy battered skin covering a well cooked & moist flesh that pulls easily away from the bone, then this will be your go-to dish each visit.   It's simply a delightful dish and worth every dollar of the $23 asking price.   This is, so far to us their signature dish and we'll definitely order it again next time. Service was good, the waitress prompt however not very enthusiastic. I believe the manager brought some of the dishes out and he was very warm and friendly which was a good change.

Overall, this was quite a pleasant dining experience.   I'd easily give Dragon Express a 4.5/10, however I have to remove half a point due to the cleanliness of the toilets.   Considering this was a VERY quiet Friday night, I don't expect to see a toilet paper holder ring with only 2 empty discarded rolls on it (and no replacement rolls) at 6: 30pm and a crusty old trash can covered in excessive rust on the other side of the toilet which just doesn't look very appealing at all.   A simple oversight I agree, but one that can be fixed with minimal effort.

I will admittedly state this is one of the nicest Asian/Chinese restaurants outside of the Melbourne CBD in which my wife and I will definitely be visiting again to experience the numerous and extensive dishes they have on their menu that we are yet to try.

Great food fast and decent price but they have one employee that just dose not know how to talk to costumers everytime I go there she acts like she is doing me a favor today I walked in saw her behind the counter and walked right out I'd rather go home hungry then to go home full and offended

Great service and cheap lunch specials. Found our dishes (Cashew Pork and Mongolian Steak) a bit too salty but otherwise tasty.

Good wholesome food that is reasonably priced. One entree and two mains cost my husband and I $30.
