Once again, the service provided by Charles, Chris and the Double Monk team is exceptional! Extremely polite, pleasant and civil! Highly recommend - the only store to visit to purchase shoes in Melbourne.

I had a wonderful experience with both Melbourne and Sydney stores. Staff are very professional and have responded to my online queries very quickly. I would definitely purchase from Double Monk again.

I was ready to place an order through Double Monk during their Edward Green trunk show. I enquired about the price of an MTO configuration and was quoted an amount significantly higher than their website indicated. Upon questioning this, Charles (the staff member who replied to my message) completely ghosted me. I likely still would have made the purchase, despite the higher price. His rudeness, however, is something that I wouldn’t tolerate in any retail setting, much less that of a luxury business. I have now instead placed my order through a European stockist at a significantly lower cost and with a more far friendly experience altogether. It would bode well for Double Monk and Charles to reflect on how their actions affect the success of the business. I certainly will not be shopping with them in the future.

Edit: Double Monk has now responded to my review. Are you having a slow day, Charles? You are quite right, I was in a state of disbelief regarding your prices. I assure you, however, that this shock was genuine. The fact that Double Monk overcharges to such a high extent compared to their competitors is in my opinion nothing short of disgusting. It is not my fault that DM's prices are head-and-shoulders above the rest.

Indeed, the situation is quite unfortunate. I would much rather have ordered my shoes through an Australian retailer, both to support the economy and help local small business. I never asked for a discount, Charles. I was clarifying what the base price of the shoes were. The price you quoted me was significantly higher than the cost listed on your website. You are quite right, also, that I was seeking free trees - they were an advertised perk of your Trunk Show.

So, Charles, I thank you for your well wishes. Rest assured that when I wear my "super-budget" shoes, I will be doing so with a clear sense of satisfaction, knowing that I have not fallen prey to grubby business tactics. I urge all potential buyers to read the critical reviews on this site and see how a business who claims to not like "wading in the mud" does just that. Outstanding customer service lies just beyond Australia's borders. Do not be afraid to go look for it.

Good shoes and products
Great store layout
Staff on the arrogant side with limited knowledge, finesse and care on shoe fit

Rubbish customer service. I walked into an empty store prepared to spend thousands of dollars on shoes and ties for my groomsmen and all 3 shop attendants couldn't be bothered giving me the time of day.

After clearly inconveniencing the staff by asking to look at a bow tie that wasn't on display it became apparent that my business was unwanted. The look of disdain on one shop assistant's face in particular was unbelievable.

I will not be stepping back through that door again any time soon, which is a shame because they have some nice things - but so do a lot of other stores and when you receive customer service like this there's no reason not to go elsewhere or to simply shop online.

Edit: 2 years later the owner must have had an especially slow day (deservedly so) because they have finally decided to reply to my review and all the other 1 star reviews reporting poor service. Somehow 2 years later the owner "remembers" a fabricated version of events. That last line in particular is telling of the kind of people running this business. You want to review your potential customers? Good on you, mate. That's not how it works. We review you because we choose whether a business deserves our money. The fact you’ve said you want to review us shows that you want to choose your customer and you don’t think some people are good enough wear your shoes.

What a disgusting person!

I'm not the only one that has had this experience. I have more than 50 reviews to my account, yours is the only business that has received 1 star that I can remember. You are trying to write me off as an unreasonable troll but that's simply not the case. Keep up this attitude and I wish you and your business the best of luck because you'll need it. Small businesses go under every day and if you can't provide basic customer service and go so far as to attack customers online afterward, you will definitely need it.

A better reply would have been something like "Sorry you had that experience, definitely a once off. Please come in and have a Whiskey on us". I would have probably taken down the review, but instead I receive this snide reply and get accused of being a liar. Good luck to you, mate.

Chris and Charles have created the most amazing shopping experience for the true gentleman in Melbourne. The product selection is clearly curated with expert eyes and the love of quality and craftsmanship. A must go destination for the discerning customer who values only the best service and product.

Nice shoes, staff could be more friendly. I told them at the beginning that I wanted to try the shoes before buying, which I thought was reasonable for a customer. However, they showed their concern about me only trying without buying, avoided to letting me know the sizes and only offered me one pair to try on (maybe the other options were really not in stock). I understand this is a business, and they were not impatient, but I would be happier if they made me feel more welcomed. I ended up buying the only model I tried.

I was in Melbourne on a business trip 3 years ago, and took a break to visit their store as I was living in BKK with no such brands available. Interesting neighborhood and a pleasant experience (including a serious drink). At the end of the day, it proved to be similar in pricing as in Europe for a pair of C&J, and even cheaper thanks to the GST refund for foreign visitors (about 9% of the purchase value, but you may have to follow up and call the customs after you depart as their system is not 100% reliable).

Welcoming, knowledgable and polite staff. Went to Double Monk to purchase Saphir leather conditioner after Saphir was recommended to me for my husband's watch bands. Turns out Double Monk is a stockist for Saphir which made me happy as it is in my local area. Nice shop, beautiful brands, shoes, umbrellas and accessories. It appears that there are more items online than in store, or perhaps accessories are not as visible amongst great range of shoes. Accessories are my thing and I do purchase those more often than expensive shoes. Overall beautiful shop

I went to the store last Saturday to purchase C&J loafers. I paid $150 deposit (which was perfectly fine) as all the shoes I wanted to check were at the Sydney store. However, when I visited the shop, the brown C&J loafers that I had requested were not available. When I asked the salesman, I was informed that it was sold out so they were not able to ship it down to Melbourne. Instead, they had given me one in a different size for me to see. Lucky I was not so keen on the brown loafers but if that was the pair I wanted, then I guess I had to wait for them to get it restocked. Other than this, I was quite happy to visit the store.

Purchased some leather care products. Prompt and professional service and appreciate the written note to add to the experience. I’m hopeful to visit the store in person some time soon.

Everytime I walk in this beautiful place I am greeted by the most knowledgeable men in the shoe base. These gentlemen and women are not pushy salesmen, they assist you and make sure you leave the store with spectacular shoes, umbrellas, ties, laces, or shoe care items.

The best of high end service and products.

Five stars is not enough. Double Monk are exceptional; the service, the range, the in store experience, and the value offered stand this team and business apart. I have just purchased a third pair of shoes from Double Monk, calling Charles from NZ with a short turnaround time. Charles understood the need, gave great advice, made a recommendation and arranged quick delivery.
There are few like Double Monk, and the team reinforce this with their focus on service; confident, highly skilled and knowledgeable, customer satisfaction oriented and friendly - no snobbishness here - people make it a genuine pleasure to visit the store. I highly recommend following on Instagram and Facebook for regular updates and inspiration.
Thanks team, and thanks Charles. AA

I must say, being an avid lover of finer shoes i was incredibly disappointed with the service of this place. Perhaps it was my fault for coming in under dressed (although this has never been a problem at other high end shoe stores such as McLoud's). The staff were incredibly rude greeting me with "are you actually here to buy" despite my emails previously expressing my interest. I was well aware of the price these shoes demand and was ready to purchase accordingly. I will never in my wildest dreams return to a place with such disgusting service. I will await my trip over to the UK to buy some C&J and perhaps EG as I would never forgive myself for giving this store my money. I hope this was just a one off I believe (although i am not positive) the gentleman's name was "Charles" so avoid at all cost if you intend on stopping by.

Had a great time here on the weekend. My fiancé and I were here to pick out my wedding shoes. Found the perfect pair plus a great pair of boots. Very much enjoyed the mirror shine lesson and the whiskey!

Bought a pair of Crocket and Jones boots and oxfords at this place. The guys there (Ben and Chris) helped me try shoes and after a few they told me that these shoes might feel tight and uncomfortable now but will become comfortable over a few weeks of wearing. Unfortunately they become more and more painful and when I called them about it, they said it would get better over time. After 8 months, I had enough of those shoes as they started causing blisters on my little toes. Returned them, they tried to 'stretch' the shoes. After a week of 'stretch', I tried them again and couldn't walk more than 50 steps before having to remove them due to pain. Now they don't want to repair or replace these shoes that cost over $1500. You better be careful before you spend money at their place. RM Williams is better any day.

I love this place. It’s like going to a toy shop for adults. The shoes are sublime. I love craftsmanship and quality- so Double Monk is a destination for me whether I’m buying or dreaming. I have also bought, as gifts, some of the accessories including ties. They are unique gifts. Finally the service is restrained but when asked for expert.

I was at Doube Monk Melbourne this afternoon. Eventhough I walk out empty handed due to the fact they currently don't carry the shoes that fit my feet size. But the size fitting experience was expectional.

The whole experience was such educational that for the first time I learn how a shoe should fit on the feet.

Definatly a place to visit if you are looking to invest a quality shoes & correct fit.

As if the shoes doesn't fit right at the first, it will never feel right, no matter how well the shoes is made.

Looking forward to see them re-stock the shoes in my size soon:)
