The facility is worn out. Last renovated in 1993. Air conditioning didn't work, broken oil heater in the room. Bathroom shower rail broken, toilet roll holder gone. Nurses seemed friendly but way over stretched, and worked to the bone with limited time for patients. Raised my concerns with management with no response. Recommend researching for modern facilities before staying hear.

I arrived at Dorset Rehab Centre four days after I had a spinal fusion at John Fawkner Hospital.
Upon arriving I was advised by staff the room was warm and was told they had an old air conditioning system which doesn’t work the best. I was also advised this has previously been raised with management and that the staff had requested fans for the rooms and this request was not accommodated.

After being in the health sector myself for almost 15 years, it seemed as though the staff on duty were not trained in accordance with any standards. There were nurses who did not introduce themselves and took a long time to attend to my room during times of need.

I had to leave the room with my walker as it was extremely hot with minimal to no air circulating in the room. I went to front reception and took a seat. I was offered a tissue as the receptionist had seen that I was upset and asked if I was okay. I told her my room was extremely hot and the staff are extremely rude.

The in charge nurse later approached me and I told her what I thought of the whole place and my treatment. I was extremely dissatisfied with they way things were. I was so upset and stressed. I knew I wasn’t going to have a smooth recovery if I stayed here. My treating nurse, the receptionist and the in charge nurse were all aware of the way I was feeling.

When my husband visited me, the purchased a fan and brought that with him as he was aware of the temperature of the room.

After addressing my feelings, I noticed a slight change in staff behaviour. There were some nurses acknowledging me taking care of me and would talk to me and ask if I needed anything.

My mattress in my room was also replaced during my short stay at this clinic. The nurse said the mattress sounds like it’s on its last legs. If this is known then it should not be in a room where patients are recovering post op, especially in my situation after I’ve just had a spinal cushion and can only lay on my back. The mattress caused sever discomfort to me and impacted my recovery. I was awake from 4am in the morning walking down the corridors in pain as I could not bare the discomfort of remaining on the mattress. My mattress was replaced with an air mattress.

I noticed on Friday afternoon a gentleman was holding a black Pomeranian inside the rehab centre. I asked him are you allowed to have dogs here and he said yes of course you can. The receptionist also confirmed this with me after I had double checked with her. She advised it was all part of rehab. My husband later bought our little Pomeranian which is housetrained. Later that evening, the nurse looking after me came into my room. The nurse rudely said what’s the dog doing here I said what do mean I was told after seeing a dog early it was ok she said no it’s not. I said okay I didn’t know that if I have known what you’re telling me the dog wouldn’t be here to begin with. Later that evening I overheard the same nurse who was looking after me talking to another patient about me and what occurred earlier in my room. Where is the Patient Confidentiality!

I was meant to be here for seven days and I was only here from Tuesday to Saturday morning as I was under so much stress and felt so tense and anxious during my stay. I was meant to be here for seven days. This was meant to be a place for me to recover post op. I signed myself out of clinic due to the multiple reasons above.

I am not one to leave reviews however my experience at this place was unforgettable and for no good reasons.

I been for a week in the facility, the treatment was exceptional, the personal are very professional and understand patients needs. I would like to thank all of them for the job well done.
Unfortunately, the building is been neglected and during raining day, the roof leaking almost everywhere, personnel are forced (by the situation) to use bucked to collect the roof water dripping.
In one room, the wall, during the rain, was functioning as per gutter downpipe, carry all the water in the room, flooding it. In the wall is installed one power outlet (socket) that created electrical hazard.
Probably, because of the water leaking, are few places with building mould.
I don’t think is a good place to send our elders, because of the environment.

Visited my friend who is in for three weeks of Rehab. Welcome was warm m friendly and helpful. Staff reflect the staff standards you see on ads. The food was very good and pastoral care was spot ion. His room clean, fresh and had great street view. Very positive impression and was shocked to see lowly rating others gave. Wayne McGough

My dad had a harrowing experience here and if I could give ZERO rating I would have.

Because of the incompetence of the staff at this hospital, my dad was left unable to walk or even stand on his own.

4 days at rehab, no physiotherapy, no shower, cold food. Suddenly my dad requires a geriatrician by the name of Aaron. Clearly his case was too hard for him, he had different answers as to why he couldn't walk and why physiotherapy wasn't happening.

He was sent back to hospital with an infection, seriously and they call this a rehabilitation hospital.

This is my review I want to share with others, I'd never sent a relative to this place ever. I just want to alert others to an experience my dad endured.

Dorset please don't reply with asking us to get in touch with health scope, we are done with you.

My father is currently in Dorset Rehabilitation and has been there now for nearly a week after receiving a partial hip replacement. So far I am so impressed with everything … doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, meals etc.they are all on the ball with everything and attend to things without delay. Physio is morning and afternoon weekdays and once a day on weekends. Keep up the great work guys … my dad is showing improvement every day and I’m sure he’ll be home in no time!

I stayed over 2 weeks at Dorset Rehabilitation Centre after have total knee replacement and had an exceptional experience there. I really can't understand the negative reviews. The nurses are great and very prompt in helping me with whatever I needed. After pressing the call help button I received a quick response. The doctor that I saw was the best I have ever had. In fact he was so good I asked if he worked out of an independent clinic as I wanted to have him as my family doctor. The food that I was served was really great. Definitely not classed as typical hospital food. Attended physiotherapy there twice a day for my entire stay and was worked hard by the physio's in order to get the best improvement of my medical situation. As with all the staff at Dorset, the physiotherapists were constantly concerned with my health, made sure the exercises did not worsen my injury and ensured that I didn't fall whilst in their care. The interaction I saw between staff and other patients confirmed for me that the same care was being provided and it was just isolated to me. I would certainly recommend Dorset Rehabilitation Centre. The staff (including the student nurses) should be commended for their work. I would hope that they are paid well and appreciated by management. It would be a real shame if they were not. I wish to thank all staff I dealt with. I would mention their names but would hate to miss someone. Due to the care I was given I am well on the way to making a full recovery. THANKS.

Rooms are very small for 2 people.
Tripping hazards everywhere.
The nurses are very nice.
The breaks on the walkers don’t work which is dangerous for patients.
Handles on the walkers are broken.
There’s holes in the walls.

WARNING.
Traumatic Experience.
This is a very dodgy facility that I would not recommend to anyone. Any facility that has so many negative reviews needs to be questioned. I definitely agree with all of them. This place is a money making venture and the genuine interest and care of the clients is not their priority. A big waste of money and the experience I had with this facility was very unpleasant and included disrespectful behavior towards. There are not enough experienced and qualified staff to deal effectively and help the recovery of the clients. The behavior of some of the staff is questionable, in particular RANYA MAVRISA.

Can't quite understand the one star reviews. I spent two weeks at Dorset recovering from bowel cancer operation. Staff were very professional and helpful and the physiotherapy crew were very good too. Premises is a little bit dated but we'll kept. Would recommend.

This can’t be a private hospital. Operates like a public. Very run down. Don’t recommend for young people.

If you're in pain and want to die then go to this disgusting place. The nurses shouldn't be nurses, they treat the people like crap and dont care for them like they should. Disgusting place.
