Hello! I was a previous student at DSM. I came in grade 5 until grade 6. This is a good school but it has flaws. When I came in to this school I was welcomed interestingly. I did not get ANY information on what class I'm in or where witch was definitely not welcoming. Then after a while I found my class witch was welcoming. After a while I found myself enjoying it but that came to an end. I started to get left out a lot in conversations witch were about there previous years in this school and of course I was not there, witch is not a problem but it made me fell left out and not included because they were in this school since prep or year 1, and they knew each other very well witch is not a problem but you could DEFINITELY see that they were a group and would not let ANYONE ELSE IN!
In grade 6 that was VERY BAD BECAUSE.when you are in grade 6 you enrol for School Captain and I went for that role.
We had to write on paper why we should become school captain. I wrote why and included my weakness witch is group work and I said "if I get school captain this role will help me improve" and guess what when it came to the principals decision he was VERY BIASED He did not choose me (witch is ok) but the reason was HORRIBLE he said " well you suffer on group work and everyone else got a 1 you got a 2-3"
I was like WHAT DOES THAT MEAN! Of corse he did NOT explain what it meant he just left me hanging! (BAD)
When he finally came to his decision he choose.and!
Wich was very clear because they were his favourite and the reason he choose one of them was because they wrote in German and in English! WHYYYYYYYYYY! That is a horrible reason! And then came BUNTE STUNDE witch DON'T GET ME EVEN STARTED ON THAT IT IS HORRIBLE! You got put in the wrong group witch was either to EASY or to HARD and why you may ask? Because they DON'T KNOW THE STUDENTS!
And I had this one teacher for English who was BAD she was very biased. She got really mad at the smallest things and one person in my class was the teachers pet and got away with everything!
And you can't trust the student there are Selfish arrogant (most of them) etc.and once someone in my class said something TOTALLY WRONG ABOUT ME like gossip and said it to everyone and guess what THE TEACHERS DID NOTHING!
SO I am warning you! DON'T GO TO THIS SCHOOL ITS BAD.and you won't like it! Please choose a better school!
Oh and the school captain that were chosen in 2023 were only chosen by popularity not by skill!

(And most of the teachers/Principal are biased there! Trust me You can see it!)
I will write this review AGAIN AND AGAIN until I get a GOOD ENOUGH response.

Kind Regard

DSM is such and amazing school, with ups and downs at the school I have had an amazing experience. I’ve made life long friends that I am so grateful for. As I am now in year 8 and not having the best time at high school I realised how I didn’t appreciate the time at this amazing school. I remember thinking how badly I wanted to start high school but now I would give the world to go back to this school. I definitely recommend sending your child/children here if you want to be part of this amazing community that you will only experience here.

I used to go here and I am aware people may see my review, but I hardly care anymore I’ve heard the terrible terrible things that people have said about me since I have left. At dsm there is a lack in keeping children safe. I had multiple occasions where things were brushed aside and left unnoticed. I would come home with marks made by other students like bite marks and bruises. When I ever I spoke up I was heavily ignored. I wasn’t popular and it being a small school there wasn’t any other options. I was the only one the girls didn’t liand in a class of 14 their was only one girl group my age and they would go and tell a teacher if I tried to ever sit with them. The school are aware of these problems because I don’t just know one but 3 people who’s reviews have been taken down and so I will be screenshotting this and will write another review adding a photo attachment. I felt horrible at this school and every time I look back I cry because of how horribly I was treated. I only know for certain 3 people who were in my class who actually have been nice and talked with me. They also let me know what everyone else in the class was saying about me. It even took heaps of convincing to tell one of them that a rumour that was made a few years ago wasn’t true and they said I had said this even after me saying that it had never happened and I had found out that everyone in the class was talking about this rumour. I hate this school even teachers I know have said infront of my class that she hated me and other friends that also left the school because there educational needs weren’t being recognised. And no they don’t have any learning difficulties and are now very ahead in there learning. I find this RIDICULOUS and do not recommend this school to anyone willing to send there children here. And now you heard an experience from a student going here you know that you can actually see through my eyes. Please listen to me. I will write this again and again and again till I’m recognised. Thank you for reading I hope you change your mind about sending your kids here

A great little school with a real community feel and supportive environment. Our two kids love their teachers and friends. In the 6 years we have been at this school, it’s become better resourced and expanded to accommodate varying interests such as coding and chess clubs. Highly recommend it if you are looking for a real immersive bilingual experience.

Despite 2020 being a very disruptive year with 2 terms being taught at home, the school has been well prepared with their response to course work, student progress and support to both students and families. In our experience, the class teacher has gone above and beyond to keep the kids engaged and motivated during remote learning. Communication from the school is clear and it highlights the nice, supportive communal feel of the school. I look forward to the kids returning to school soon for more enjoyable learning and friendships. Das ist gut!

We were very disappointed in the school's overall performance. Our child felt very unsafe at the school and we did not feel supported by management. As a consequence we have left the school.

I'm a year 6 graduate from 2019. The teachers are always ready to help and make the lessons fun yet you still learn a lot. It's a great environment.

As shown in a October 2019 parent survey, the vast majority of parents are extremely happy (and increasingly so) with Deutsche Schule Melbourne and the bi-lingual education their children are receiving. Parents also said unequivocally that their children feel safe at school. Not only that, but school enrolment numbers continue to grow substantially and demand for places is high. DSM is a world class bi-lingual school greatly appreciated by the community and valued by parents and students alike. It is well supported by the German speaking and Aussie communities and officials. We have been parents at the school for almost seven years and have two kids enrolled at DSM.

The school leadership and management team is friendly, responsive and always keen to improve how the school is run, and has managed the rapid growth in student numbers and the school’s footprint very well. The teaching staff is highly competent, well-liked by the children, approachable and always keen to receive, and act on, feedback from the parents. The bilingual immersion program is well managed and is attracting families with no connection to German or German speaking countries who recognise the benefits a bilingual education.

We have been impressed with what the school is able to offer despite its relatively small size. This includes a wide range of extra-curricular activities (instrumental program and after-school soccer, chess, coding, arts, …), on-site before and after school care, and a popular lunch order program.

We love the sense of community the school fosters through the working bees, Christmas Market, end-of-year celebration and other events. This is compounded by the work done by the parent association and the other teams of parents responsible for organising the events or tasked with investigating initiatives put forward by the school community.

Our kids have enjoyed and felt comfortable at the school from day one. We have seen them and their friends grow into wonderful little human beings, caring for each other across all year levels, and we feel confident that they will have built a solid foundation to continue on their journey.

DSM is a fantastic school. It is one of few schools that offers bilingual education, based on the early immersion concept. This offers a great pathway for kids without any knowledge of German.
The school has great educators that are talented, experienced and motivated. They all speak both languages fluently and those who teach the majority of German are native speakers. The school staff and leadership is always helpful and supportive. School leadership and staff always seek improvements and work closely with everyone.
The school community is positive and supportive across all grades. Being a smaller school is has a great communal feel.
Both of my kids love this school and our family has been on this great journey of education and discovery since 2013.
