Daughter In Law reviews
66We went here for Diwali dinner and it was really amazing. The food is delicious and authentic. It has the right amount of spice and flavour. Everything tasted good and would love to go again sometime!
I had a very poor experience here on last weekend. Bad quality food, cold food, and average service. They should check the food quality and change the chefs that prepare flavourful quality food. Very disappointed.
Nah! Just not the place if you are after good indian food.
Its sufficient to make White people think they are having a gala time.
The space is so congested and we could hardly hear each other.
Not coming again.
We went for a office lunch there and were really happy with the experience. As it was a Diwali lunch the Decor was to the point. The ambience and the food was also amazing. The most famous thing there is Thali you have both veg and non veg options. However you can’t share the thali.
We also took few snacks and they were great too. If you are in the city make sure to go there and try it out.
The food is good. It's a vibrant place with the decorations and the place settings. Good for a group. Don't recommend a quiet dinner. Service was ok. I got the bill when asked for the dessert menu and a few other faux pas. Servers need some training.
Great food and atmosphere. I ordered set menu (thali) and the portion were good. However, waiters were not very aware of the menu and my couple of questions on the ingredients stumbled them. Great place and taste and a must visit place for indian food.
Loved the food. Each dish in the Thali was unique, not like some places where they just use one master sauce/gravy for everything. The service was even more amazing, as our clutz of a friend was waving his hand in the air to greet our friend and accidentally knocked over a full plate of food from a passing by server. We made fun of our friend the entire time, but manger came to check on us and him. And clean up was quick. Definitely going back to try the A La Carte menu.
I was expecting much more. We entered and it took a little for the man seat at the bar with the computer to great us, maybe no staff on the floor? Food is ok, nothing very noticeable. Price much higher than a regular Indian restaurant. So a bit disappointed
2 stars for the ambiance but the food was not as spectacular as i expected! Very limited food option and even out of that some weren’t available despite we went there at 6.45/7pm on a Sunday.price is not cheap either!
One of the best modern Indian restaurants in Melbourne, food was delicious, great ambience, service good.
Always awesome. Consistently serving amazing food. Lunch Thali here is a perfect combination of variety to value ratio.
Worst Indian food I have ever tasted in my entire life…. 1 star just for decoration but guys don’t get fooled by their decorations. My 1st and last time…. Not recommended: (
Let's just say, I wouldn't recommend this to another Indian person. The kingfish ceviche was the most imaginative and best dish we had. The cocktails were nice too. Everything else was just about okay and not worth the price. The tandoor lacked that classic smokey tandoor flavor. And the worst offender was the broccoli and zucchini in an overly sweet prawn curry. We didn't order any dessert because they were just too basic. Indian cuisine has so many lovely desserts that can be reimagined in a multitude of ways, and yet the dessert options they had were the most basic, to the point of lazy. The menu felt like someone peaked with the second dish on there - the ceviche - and then lost interest. I'm not sure why lobster pakora is in the tandoor section. Also, lobster was overcooked and tough. Just throwing lobster into the tandoor with a nice tandoori masala would have been so much better! This is just one example of dishes that were a total missed opportunity. Extremely disappointed.
We went yesterday first time for dinner, we loved the Tandoori chicken but Lamb Rogan josh was not at all tasty. Staff were friendly.
We went yesterday, party of 5 for lunch to celebrate my birthday. Can’t praise this restaurant enough from the colourful decor to the amazing food and friendly staff. I have to say there were no disappointments and we will return soon.
Quick service, nice friendly staff.
Food is amazing, great flavours without the bloating.
Fun ambiance.
We shared a similar experience to others who have left 1 or 2 star reviews so I don’t feel the need to repeat it. They are obviously not interested in acting on any of the feedback so just avoid.
I think Daughter In Law deserves 7 stars or more. My wife and I were there on the eve of Valentine's day. As we entered the restaurant, we were welcomed by the beautiful garland decorations on the ceiling followed by the friendly staff. It was a set menu so as soon as we sat down drinks were offered options of cocktails and mocktails, followed by the entree then another entree and one more, mains and Desert. Every item served was absolutely delicious with beautiful presentation. Pani Puri or Gol Gappe were full of flavours but the challenge was to put the whole piece in your mouth at once otherwise you will regret it. A big plate or thali was served with at least 7 or 8 dishes, Dal or lentils, Unauthentic butter chicken (love the name), Currie, lamb, white chick Peas, rice, naan etc, enough food for two. We both had a great experience, and we will definitely go back again. I forgot to mention the location, it's right next to the Parliament station or near spring street really handy. If you are thinking then make a booking and go with your loved ones to try it out.
Food tastes delicious! Unfortunately, we expected the Lunch Thali on Sunday, but once we arrived we found out that it is only on weekdays which was quite disappointing considering I didn't see anything about it on the website (maybe it is there but I couldn't find it). Bowl of rice also should be a larger serving or cheaper. I mean it's just a small bowl of rice and it costs $6. Cup of rice probably costs $1.
Overall a great place to eat some decent Indian food!
A fun space with great inauthentic food (as advertised). Music was on point. This was a team Christmas dinner and the food was plentiful. Vegetarian and other dietaries were accommodated on the spot.
