Dance Habit

Good school, but it favours extroverted, talkative ladies. It is very cliquey. These days, it more about quantity rather than quality - I definitely would not recommend its Beginner Jazz classes; instead of steadily taking students through paces, the teacher packs 50 things into the hour, giving no time for good old practice. The school is elitist and forgets that it is also a business. Every customer has a voice, even introverted, serious dance students like me, who were misled, talked about behind my back and mistreated. I was pulled aside at the end of the term, after our final rehearsal for the midyear concert, and accused of various things, including the bizarre statement, "We don't feel that you are part of the community. " Thinking back to my time there, I suppose what they meant was, you don't gossip enough, you aren't insecure enough, you don't volunteer to attend impromptu events that require extra time like 'hot chocolate day' or a flash mob for someone's wedding proposal. Was my behaviour perfect? Perhaps not. Was I treated fairly? Absolutely not. Did the head of the school blow things out of proportion when dealing with a simple request for private lessons? Absolutely. She went behind my back, spoke about me to all the staff and students. And then when we finally met, she pretended that she was an angel and I the devil. She certainly did not treat me as if I was a customer. In fact, she treated me like she was a headmistress and I was a schoolgirl. If you are a confident, time-poor businesswoman like me who is looking for somewhere simple where you can learn dance, don't go to Dance Habit. They are looking for giggly, talkative, shallow girls who constantly comment on the Facebook group and participate in everything.

We've started out first ever dance class for our toddler and Dance Habit has just been the best. We are BOTH having so much fun, the teacher is a sweet heart and the centre is a really nice place to spend time.

I freakin love this place. I arrived as an adult dance with no experience, but found such an awesome environment with no judgement. My jazz class is now my favourite part of the week because who doesn't want to spend an hour dancing to pop music on a Monday night?

Dance Habit is my family.

I started at Dance Habit just under 5 years ago and was overwhelmed by the support and encouragement I received immediately. I was incredibly nervous attending my first class (after stopping dancing nearly 10 years prior) but was welcomed by the most generous, energetic and friendly teacher and fellow students - I felt immediately at home and knew Dance Habit was a community I wanted to be part of.

The Dance Habit team are highly skilled (and educated) teachers who actively attend to the individual and group needs of their students/classes whilst prioritising safe dance practice and child safety. Dance Habit teachers and staff are empathetic, generous, compassionate, fun (!) and supportive. Dance Habit staff work hard to meet the needs of all families including supporting those with/returning from injuries, students with additional learning needs and those experiencing family or life difficulties. Teachers are always available for a chat before or after class - providing assistance and feedback to help with progress and even just a check-in with how you are going in life. Through the ups and downs in my life Dance Habit staff have always been there to support me. When I was injured the teachers continued to ensure I felt included and adapted exercises and routines to meet my needs. When I was experiencing some tricky life/emotional things, teachers always checked in with me, listen to my rambling and provided support.

I could talk at length about how amazing Dance Habit is, but really, you just need to check it out for yourself/your child! There are classes for all ages, genders and abilities, across a broad array of styles. Staff, fellow students and families are all supportive of each other and have created a great community. There is a chilled mid-year performance opportunity as well as a spectacular end of year concert opportunity.

Dance Habit truly is my family and is a community I will be a part of for many, many years to come.

I have enjoyed every minute dancing with Dance Habit. Each teacher exhibits the qualities that make the perfect role model for young children and adults alike. I have experienced nothing but exceptional professionalism and a caring nature from each one of them. Each class is welcome to all walks of life and I feel privileged to have met some beautiful people and dancers. I am proud to be part of the Dance Habit community.

My daughter join dance habit on a second term this year. She fell inlove and also me. Her confidence built more when she joined dance habit. Enjoyed every minute here. The year end concert was a great experience for her and I.

I can’t speak highly enough about the staff at Dance Habit and the experiences they give all their students. My children have been so well nurtured and respected, and of utmost importance to them, they’ve just had so much fun being involved in their weekly classes and special activities like medal tests, prize giving days, movie nights and most exciting of all, the amazing concerts! I’ve also joined the adult classes this year after a 29 year break from dancing, and it has been such a joyful and empowering experience for me that I want my husband to join in next year too!
Megan, as director, is incredibly professional, approachable and responsive to any concerns parents may have.

I’ve been a part of Dance Habit for 6 years now and can not express my love for this school anymore. They’ve created such an incredible community for both children and adults. Classes are inclusive and fun without any judgement. As discussed earlier tonight with another student, Dance Habit is not only a dance school; it’s a family.
Since moving away from my family and friends, it has been fantastic to find a selection of people that have embraced my wackyness and picked me up when I’m down. Dance Habit has honestly become my second family and I wouldn’t have it any other way! Thank you all at DH for embracing me into your community!

Just finished another fabulous year at dance habit! The environment is such a fun space and the teachers are very supportive, always asking if we need special attention before class starts. Can't wait to see what next year brings!

Coming back to dance after more than 10 years and on my 40s, it was a big thing. But I couldn't choose a best place to do it. Teachers at Dance Habit are absolutely amazing, caring, professional and l always leave my dance classes feeling happy and with my heart full of gratitude.

Dance Habit is an amazing place. The teachers are really wonderful and caring. They are also very dedicated and this dance school is so much more than a place to learn dance. My daughter and I both do classes there and we are part of a community that has really enriched our lives. Dance Habit is really committed to the idea that dancing is for everybody. They are so inclusive and celebrate everyone's success. I wish the whole world could be more like Dance Habit. Really, I can't praise them enough. And I can now tap dance and I love it!

I only started dance this year and I must say I am blown away with the family community dance habit has built. All teachers are absolutely amazing in and outside of the dance studio, they are ALWAYS full of support and positive energy. They're well organised & extremely professional. Every teacher I have come across are extremely passionate, caring, understanding & full of life. If anyone is looking for a welcoming, family like community to dance with - dance habit is for you!
