Dalyston General Store

Heard good reviews so thought I'd try it out but alas it was a major disappointment. The flake tasted weird most likely hake from the texture and smell. Oily. At $9.50 a thin piece as well. Potato cakes were the thinnest I ever had from a fish shop and at $1.90 each I really was surprised. Dripping in oil as well. I'm being polite giving it 2 stars. I'm hoping they improve but I won't be back until I hear it's stepped up in quality and taste.

We just had two hamburgers with the lot from this little general store on the road between Kilcunda and Wonthaggi - they were beautiful and fresh and great value for money - making it a worthwhile local convenience shop and stop!

We recently moved to Daly and I grabbed some hot chips for my partner from here, they were absolutely delicious! Staff are also very friendly

Forget any take out in wonthaggi it’s all rubbish head into the Dalystin store some of the best chips and chicken salt around and good burgers, hard to find any decent take out in the area but always good solid lunch from here!

I just had the best chicken schnitzel burger with the lot hold mayo but gravy instead and it was delicious. Massive but yummy. We have a hidden gem in Gippsland - Dalyston General Store makes awesome burgers.

Never one to complain but my flake had ammonia smell and taste not strong but definitely there, scallops were delicious and chips were ok.im on my 4th stubby getting ammonia taste out

Recently visited my mum in Daylston and she recommended take away from here. Was so yum we got lunch and dinner, plus fresh bakery bread and rolls in the morning. Everyone was so lovely and friendly. Highly recommended:)

Best fish in all of Victoria! I’ve told all my mates and we all make a detour after going surfing as a reward to ourselves. It is consistently the best fish! The reason it’s fresh from the local fishos it’s up to 10 and 12mm thick and the batter is golden crispy. Yum Yum!

I feel really bad saying this because Last time, only last summer, the man there was a lovely guy the way he treated us hungry people.but THIS time. OMDG the food was AWFUL!

Have obviously changed management! SOGGY SOGGY Fish! OVERCOOKED chips. I eat Fish and chips all of my over 50 years of buying fish and chips (one of my fav meals!). Sorry, this would be amongst the top 3 worst Fish and chip experiences. Disgusting.

Fish was as oily as you could imagine! I could NOT take a piece of fish from the package as it simply fell and crumbled to pieces! I was so so sick later.good thing I only had a Mouthful of it before feeding the seagulls!

What IS IT with these people REFUSING TO APPLY SALT?

Potato cakes were just so greasy it was sickening! Chips were worst I have had from any fish and chip shop in memory. Dim sims edible. Now, before you think I am being nasty about people I don't even know, let me say that two years ago this store was EXCELLENT. Last year, fish size had LESS THAN HALVED. This time Fish was quite simply INEDIBLE.hey! Even if I wanted to eat it I couldn't it simply disintegrated as I tried to pick it up! BTW Potato Cakes were at least a quarter the size of ones found anywhere else.they were fairdinkum TINY!

Real shame because last time I was there the man running the place was a very nice person. I do not know if it was him still managing as another person went in and ordered. Really really horrible fish and chips! HOW you could say this is "The Best" is absolutely beyond me as it is quite simply the worst. And. I am sorry to say that.

I have been coming here for many years and has always been beautiful fresh flake, unfortunately the place has taken a drastic turn and fish is now dry tough and uneatable pretty much a waste of money such a shame

Today had ever best steak sandwich and potato cake for sure will be back soon and try others food

We had fish, chips.and potatoe cakes last night and it was absolutely beautiful, keep up the good work.

1 star for taking my order as for food don't know never received it complete waste of money and time if you can't make a sandwich in less then an hour give up.typical south Gippsland take away pathetic.

I have been having pack of fish and chips, burger and different other foods here, so yummy and the staff is so nice and friendly,

Very disappointed after buying kids pack, fish was fish was way over cooked (second time fish has been overcooked) and very dried out, yet dripping in oil, (looked like a large piece cut into 3 smaller pieces, fish bites don't have cut edges), used to be four fish bites, not 3. Potato cake and chips were tops as per usual, as was the service, don't bring your ratings down on skimping, it doesn't work "especially with the locals".

Change of owners. I tried three times and all times were very average. Combination of overcooked and undercooked food and extended wait times. Staff are friendly but food has declines.

There has been a change of ownership. First time under new management, fish size was smaller and very greasy, yuk. Thought maybe try again. Last night the fish batter was so greasy and sickening to eat. The fish was dry and not nice. Chips okay. Not going back need a new fish and chip shop, Ryall I’m on my way.

We must have gone there on a bad day! I ordered 6 steamed dim sims, some chips, flake and (after asking if the potato cakes were the same as the previous owner and told yes) I also ordered 4 potato cakes. When I went to pick them up, there was only one bundle. I asked if the steamed dim sims were in the parcel and she said “oh, did you want steamed? “. I said yes that was what I ordered. So she says “oh well, our steamer isn’t even turned on”………? My grandkids don’t eat fried dim sims, but there was no offer of refund, so I took them and left. When I opened the parcel at home we had TWELVE dim sims (which no one ate because they don’t like them) some potato cakes which were tiny and fried beyond recognition - one was like a piece of cardboard - however the chips were lovely. I’m glad others had a better experience than I, but I won’t go back
