Coles South Melbourne - Normanby Road reviews
11This coles is so fun, I loves the effort that has gone into the presentation of this particular coles local store. The little signs with cute quotes and colours etc. They have a juice and coffee machine, nice bakery goods and more. I have never seen a coles quite like it, and I definetly don't have one like that where we come from (Queenslanders). Whoever did those little signs has done a great job, it really does uplift and give the store a really great vibe.
The supermarket is small but has a lot of fresh fruit, especially strawberries, 4.4AUD, 300gram box, very sweet and fresh. From Novotel South Wharf Hotel, it's about 900m to walk under the communal road bridge. We arrived here at 11: 45 a.m, two local guests struggled to find the entrance. Looking at the door, they thought they were entering a liquor store.
This is the worst grocery store. The employees literally run from customers. The staff stocking the vegetables had no idea what a shallot is. The staff supervising the self-checkouts are glued to their phones and shudder when you ask for assistance. I was in this store 30 minutes ago and the team member manning the self-checkouts was watching someone’s dog for them. Review your camera footage. I live a block away. I will be driving the 2kms to Woolworths from now on. What a circus.
Amazing store, very wonderful staff, very accommodating and wonderful to greeted upon entry. 5 stars!
What a resource for the Riconic Apartment residents to have at such a location - amazing. I decided to wait until my third visit to leave a review and this deserves every bit of 5 Stars. Location, quality, product selection, price - everything you could want from a Coles Local.
Anything you read in the other reviews about being less than 5 Stars is complete garbage.
Great store with a wide range, great prices and great service. Early days, but everything is fantastic so far
Horrible experience, minimal stock, Coles local overall is a complete failure. Larger Coles stores are so much better, coming here was a complete waste of time.
Beautiful brand new supermarket with a great selection of premium breads, pastries and deli goods! Great addition to the local area
Terrible management! Refused to soundproof their Plant room machines and the sound is affecting residents in their apartments above! Coles refuses to soundproof their machines. Absolutely unacceptable.
Brand new Coles Local store for South Melbourne and Port Melbourne community Big enough for everyday essentials, with extra selection of fine food including sushi, sandwich, bread, cake, cheese, coffee and fresh juice to grab on the go. Free parking and a short stroll to the 109 tram stop makes it undoubtedly the perfect place for my breakfast and dinner dessert
As a local myself, this supermarket is a great addition to the area. As with other Coles Locals, there is an emphasis on quality, artisanal ingredients whilst still having the classic staples you'd expect at any Coles.
They have a self serve coffee machine! Great for us caffeine addicts! Super popular whilst I was there as there aren't many cafes open on the weekend in this stretch of South Melbourne. Due to how busy it was, I decided not to try it on this visit. I'll return at a quieter time.
The adjoining Liquorland is decent given the size. I'm a non-drinker so I can't give much detail on the range and if that is suitable to people's needs or not.
The clientele was a majority of singles and couples. Not many families there.
Christmas treat displays already up - Gingerbread, meringues, mince pies, shortbread, nougat etc.
Nice display of flowers and food gifts that are readily visible and accessible.
There are fridges and freezers for fresh pet food at the rear corner of the store.
Fresh hot chickens and plenty of grab n go meals and snacks available.
The checkouts are all self service but two staff members were on hand to assist. There are a mix of cash and card facilities.
Accessibility: A choice of ramps or a couple of stairs. Ramps are not steep. Great option for those who cannot utilise stairs. Upstairs car park has lift access.
Access via modes of transport:
Car:
*Undercover parking above supermarket (enter via Woodgate Street). Ticketed unlimited parking Mon-Fri on Woodgate Street (tram line side), Mon-Sat (supermarket side).
*Unlimited parking on Boundary Street (directly outside supermarket). 2P unticketed on Boundary Street on the other side of Normanby Road.
*Ticketed unlimited parking on Normanby Road Mon to Fri. Unlimited on Sat and Sun.
*Unlimited and 4P parking in Evans Street.
Public transport/bike/walking: Evans Street has a shaded park and seating if you wish to have a picnic or give the kids a place to run around. Easy to get to via cycling or walking with the off road asphalt track behind the Evans Street park running parallel to the tram line. Number 109 tram to Port Melbourne (tram stop #126 Montague Street) is the closest stop, or the 235 bus stopping at Ingles Street/Normanby Road. Closest train stop is at Southern Cross station, and you can board either the bus or tram from there.
