I recently joined Dawn and five others in an afternoon workshop to learn to make a terracotta olla (a kind of ancient irrigation system).

Dawn's relaxed and calm manner belies her extensive experience as a creative, academic and teacher. I loved hearing stories of how she's come to be a business owner and art/pottery teacher while I worked away, rolling my little clay sausages to make my olla. (Side note: using an old toothbrush to score and slurry joins is a game changer! So simple and effective.)

It was lovely, too, to see the studio brimming with the work of other students. So much inspiration to be taken from the work around us.

I'm feeling super inspired to continue my handbuilding journey (I've almost exclusively thrown on the wheel) and look forward to continuing to support Dawn and her partner as they navigate operating their business during and after a very challenging and totally strange year.

Thanks again Dawn, can't wait to see you, your partner and Peeps (the legendary shop pooch) in 2021!

Very rude lady couldn’t even get started in the class! Hadn’t asked me for all correct information when booking a class and sent my bill off to my provider and they asked for more information however she called and left a message I tried to return her call off both my own number and another however she gave my spot to someone else. She says she works with people with disabilities but clearly not can’t even organise her own billing and very rude arrogant lady when asked why? Would not recommend even bothering booking a class

I was a student a few years ago, and returned during the isolation period for some online pottery classes. Getting my hands into some clay has been great fun, and a much needed release during strange this time.
In the online classes I've learned a lot of new processes and produced some work that I'm really happy with.
Dawn has been a great teacher, and I can't wait to start the next the new projects next term.

Myself and my partner did an online acrylic paint pouring class, it was awesome. Dawn, the teacher, was both instructive and caring, allowing us newbies the time we needed to follow each step. We are very happy with the paintings, that are now sitting on the mantle!
Thanks Clay Motion! Great experience and outcome!

Dawn creates a relaxing, creative and supportive space of creation for Claymotion pottery classes. I'll be coming back next term to learn more from Dawn.

My daughter has been studying pottery at ClayMotion with Dawn since she was 6 years old. She has now turned 9 and has fallen even more in love with pottery as time has progressed. She has created stunning pieces as a result of Dawn’s clearly adept skills as an experienced ceramicist. She adores Saturday mornings and her one hour and a half class with Dawn and her peers. She has had many new opportunities arise on Saturdays over the years and her response has always been ‘If it will affect my pottery class, then no. ’ This statement perhaps is a review in itself. Pottery Class is such an important element of her week and most genuinely, her life. As her parents, we are so grateful to Dawn, her guidance and genuine care of our daughter and for all that she offers at Claymotion. It is a really special place filled with kindness, passion and creativity.

I enrolled in a 10 week morning pottery class and it was the most excruciating 10 week course I've ever done. Hated it. I should have made a T-shirt with "Sorry I"m late but I didn't want to be here". DW was so moody I wouldn't know which personality she was until I entered the door and heard the tone of voice she said hello with. On one day she would be so hostile (unless you were spending money), on another she would be light and friendly. Refused to give any information about ceramics when questioned even though she says she has a doctorate in it, to the point of paranoia. Unorganised workroom. No colour samples. Created a mob mentality in the class just bc I made a joke about a piece of carpet on the roadside during the Ballarat Biennale. Dimwit even made a crack about my initials. The only time I saw a smile was when alcohol was mentioned. Afterwards, I enquired at Fed Uni about ceramics courses and was told to go to Melbourne for workshops. When I asked about Claymotion classes I did not get a reply. Says it all.

I have been doing classes for almost a year and loved creating my own ceramic pieces in the ClayMotion studio. Dawn is super helpful and knowledgeable about all arts and crafts.
