I have an allergy to corn & corn derivatives, as well as other allergies & intolerances. Due to this, I have a difficult time finding safe foods.
Clay has been a godsend!
They have a great selection of organic foods & products.
I love the fresh sourdough from Zeally Bay, (I unfortunately can’t eat the breads from Ceres.) and the selection of cheeses & dairy.
They also have a selection of bulk-buy products. Unfortunately they do not list the ingredients or information though.
Oh, I also highly recommend the sweet potatoes. Soooo much better than any sweet potatoes I’ve tried from Coles or Woolies.

Fantastic produce, but on a couple of occassions have been overcharged. Didn't notice until I got home. The checkout system probably needs a spruce up! Otherwise, great place for cheese and fresh veges!

I won't be coming back. Three times in a row I have been overcharged, and I'm too scared to go back and challenge this because the staff are rude and unapproachable. Most recently, I was charged $16 for a $9 cheese. The previous time, charged $6 for radish that was marked as $3. The amount isn't huge, but it's the principle of carelessness and dishonesty that I dislike.

Stunning gourmet grocer nestled in a perfect pocket in North Carlton. Lovely staff and range - everything so well presented. A pleasure to visit and most certainly looking forward to returning again in the future.

Clay has been a very handy store for several years now. The product range is great and is what kept us coming back given we could get through the shopping list almost entirely without having to carry on to somewhere else. The recent store expansion out the back was a welcomed and pleasant addition.

I'm taking off 1 star for the F&V prices. I know it's tricky having worked in a similar store but the prices really are up at some of the highest for Melbourne. I hope this can be a focus area for the store in the future. It would be great to see perhaps some second grade stuff bought in and sold quickly at a reasonable price.

Fantastic range, they really have the best quality products and a great selection of vegan products too. Great selection of ice creams, wines, washing detergents and snacks.
I shop here over other health food stores because of the verity and quality. It's a little bit on the pricer side compared to other stores.but these guys carry better quality products. I come here for select products and the staff are really nice and helpful.

Really unfortunate as I’ve been a loyal customer since moving close by. There was no really obvious “mask as condition of entry” and as I walked into the store, I was questioned, then interrogated about what my particular medical exemption was. The government guidelines state, that not even police are required to probe the particular medical/psychological exemption; and for good reasons, such as it may be traumatic for the individual to disclose their history of abuse. I asserted I should not have to disclose my trauma and abuse (which is on medical record) and was replied with “just forget it”. If this person would have initially said it was a condition of entry I would have politely left and understood. The insensitivity and impoliteness of such questioning was truly not needed amidst a society where psychological health has already rapidly deteriorated. I must mention that the second staff member was friendly and understanding at least, much appreciated.

A normal healthy food shop. They got fresh fruit and vegetables, dairy, dips, tea, cereals, wine, broths, lasagne, etc
And helpful staff.

Such a great experience at CLAY, was lucky to visit whilst the naturopath was on staff (which seems to be most days). She was so helpful and empathetic to my sore throat and has sorted me out with great products and tips. Range in the store is wonderful too, it’s much bigger than I expected and will definitely be swinging past more often to stock up the fridge and pantry.

A boutique whole foods store in the Rathdowne village.
You'll find all your whole food shopping bits and pieces here, both food and drink. They have fresh fruit and veg 'healthy' snacks and treats (I know-who knew healthy treats could taste good! I'm a full fat and sugar man, so I was very pleasantly surprised).
The store has a really pleasant atmosphere, and the staff are inviting and approachable. If you have any questions, they're more than happy to guide you in the right direction and give recommendations if needed.
If you're an online shopper, their site does need some work and does not resemble the quality or range of offerings available in store, so I'd recommend a personal visit.
