Checked this place out on a Friday night while in town. There were plenty of customers streaming in and out during our sitting. This may be the reason why it was a bit slow for our orders to be taken.

The sashimi set was good for $35. However I hoped we’d get some fatty tuna with it which wasn’t the case.

The mixed tempura was probably the best out of the dishes we tried. This was not bad value at $15 and I suggest ordering a rice on the side to eat with this dish.

The tuna rolls had a sinewy texture to the fish which wasn’t pleasant.

Overall the food was okay, nothing was outstanding. Will try other Japanese restaurants around the area first until we come back here.

My favourite local Japanese restaurant for the last 16 years! Always great quality food, and very good value too.

We have been coming here for many years now and it is always consistent even when they are super busy. Great food, lovely staff and we keep coming back.

Had the Okonomiyaki which was heavy and nothing like what I had in Osaka last week. Also had the gyu niku making, agedashi Tofu and yakiniku which were great authentic tastes

Prior ordering, I will brush up my accent as I was recognised as a female voice when I was placing a reservation over the phone. Big confusion with the time and number of people.

My partner who doesn’t love to slaughter animals (vegetarian) ordered Tofu steak. This is the first time, I heard him saying he’s not happy with the meal. Unpleasant is the word to describe his meal. Overly sauced up and there’s no signs of vegetables. He ended up eating my tempura.

I have no complain about my Chicken Bentox box. I enjoyed but it’s not the best.

I can’t complain about the atmosphere or service as the staff were attentive to our needs. My partner’s dexterity with chopsticks on that occasion was shocking. Turned out my chopsticks was good for that occasion. I’m pathetic with my chopsticks. Thanks for looking after us. Well done.

Come to them if you are NOT vegetarian.

My all-time favorite Japanese restaurant in Melbourne’s north. The sushi boat is an option that you can choose with endless sushi pieces great to share between two or three people. We did get other sides and they were cooked to perfection. The fresh fish was great and it didn’t have a fishy off the taste.

Dinning experience was nice, food was great but upon arrival after booking the night staff took there time greeting us and left us standing there wondering if we needed to go find a table or wait to be shown, turns out we had to go find it. Hopefully it was was only due to it being a busy night, but in all will definitely return for another date night.

Great food, have been coming for at least 9 years now. Quite possibly the best Japsnese around.

Ten guests sharing.
Good service, great food and good value.
Variety of sushi, dumplings, chicken skewers, fresh salad, beef and rice.
Plenty of food
Highly recommended

The unadon was good, but the tataki was underwhelming. Overall a good dinner at a decent price with nice servers. I’d recommend making a reservation in advance.

They gave us 2 hr sitting however, our food we ordered took 1 hr to come. Staff service pretended not to even see us, our seat was like at a local foodcourt. Having to sit on a wooden small stool for 1 hour was extremely uncomfortable. Other than that the food that came had a few empty spots - we ordered the sushi boat. The food always takes forever here.hence why we never go but thought tonight was gonna be different.

I ordered a large sashimi and they gave me salmon belly offcuts. The sashimi did not taste fresh, I would rate it worst than sushi sushi.

Extremely disappointed after I ordered takeaway from Chiba. Everything was either drenched in oil, or drenched in sauce. Unfortunately, the sushi was not fresh either.which is baffling as they appear to make it on site.

This has been my second negative attendance at Chiba in the last few months, so unfortunately it has lost me as a customer.

Foods good, nice lean place, but not very authentic Japanese, if you're after a nice place to go to its ok.

This platter was almost $70.

Although we did enjoy the sashimi, we felt it missed the mark by a lot given how empty it felt.

The platter was not filled completely with food, there's lots of gaps and we felt that it did not justify the money paid.

There's a lot of sashimi platters around that are very value for your money, unfortunately, just not in Moonee ponds.

If we were to price this, it should be $55.

This was shared between 2 and we had to get extra food elsewhere ater this.

Eat here very often but today.
50 minute wait for takeaway food.
Need more staff unfortunately.

First time dining here and impressed from the beginning, came here for a birthday celebration with a group sitting upstairs. Love the ambience, food & service will definitely be back! Oh and it’s BYO

This WAS our go to place for special occasions for many years but on our recent visit things have slipped. The table itself was worn as were the sushi boats. And they brought out the mains too quickly. Left dirty plates on the table for ages. Quality of food was ok but for those prices we expect better. Also the place was very noisy with a very large group upstairs. Won't be going back there when there are so many other Japanese places to choose from nearby.

Great sushi! I wished that the boat had a little bit more variety but it is still very good for the price! The takoyaki is so tasty! Good value for money!
