Chayō Japanese Café Izakaya Chayō reviews
45Matchas great where you can chose your sweetness level and food is great. Definitely coming back again 100% recommend
Food was nice. But at the price point of $20 you would expect it to have more than 2 small pieces of chicken
Had coffee and chilli scrambled eggs.
One of the best coffees and the chilli scrambled eggs was the best
Some of the best takoyaki ive ever had. Iced chocolate comes bitter but there is options to add sugar, love it!
Enjoyed a lovely meal. Served up promptly and was delicious. Loved the cup and saucer my coffee was served in, was a decent size. The meals looked beautiful too. My only negative is the qr code to see menu and order, but thats a pet hate of mine.the matcha was one of the best my daughter has ever had.
Cute Japanese but vibrant vibe. Karate chicken is good as you can taste the meat was properly marinated
Matcha drinks are consistently among the best anywhere. Beer-battered chips changed for the worse lately, a few times I was served plain chips for same price. Outdoor tables are usable again, as Spring is here
May be my expectations were too high, but the cakes I had was only decent. The matcha latte was just straight up milk.
Staff are lovely. Food is appealing to the eye as well as being delicious. Great experience here
Had the chicken katsu curry. Loved the curry but the egg were over cooked. Would prefer the yolk to be runny.
Service was good and quick. Price slightly above average.
Worth visiting if you are around the corner.
The food and waiters are fine. The bathroom and the overall restaurant appears messy as there are boxes in the walkway, random stuff placed outside the bathroom, use delivery box as a tissue bin. I find it strange that the payment app automatically pre-set for 10% tip when I do not experience much of service compare to other cafe. The takeaway cake tastes great.
Love this place.they have the best japanese cakes, spongy soft and not too sweet.scan and order from phone really convenient.must gooo
Delicious food and even on the pricey side it is well worth it. I had the burger and the chicken was fried to perfection and was tender and the spicy Mayo really complemented the chicken. The bun was soft. The takoyaki was very well made and drenched in sauce which made it even better, outside was crispy. Lotus root chips were very crunchy and tasted wonderful. The tempura that came with the udon was delicious and fried to golden. Very high quality. Left me wanting more. Highly recommend this place.

Lovely venue (dining area). Good menu at great prices (some people might consider the menu to be limited but I was very happy with the options). Decent serving sizes with wonderful authentic flavours. Beautiful, refreshing desserts (cakes). Ordering and paying for food was via scanning a QR code. This did not work for us (wouldn"t load the webpage due to it not being secure). Fortunately they do have printed menus and you can order and pay at the counter. Highly recommended.
Chayo is one of the best cafes in Melbourne. If they could make the service a bit better, would be great. Sometime it requires some time to get a cup of coffee because the barista isn't available.
Largely disappointed! Seems the management or the ownership has changed. The philosophy of the restaurant isn't the same as before. This can be evident in the quality of the food.
In a relatively simple dish, a true Japanese restaurant will take care of the details area.
Maybe I am not their target audience.
Will not visit them again.
Yuzu macha was wonderful. Nice to have an authentic Japanese café using popular favours like yuzu (similar to lemon but sweeter) and green tea.
Changed to 5* because the menu has greatly expanded and activities, such as the green tea tasting evenings have commenced. Find them on Facebook for updates
The food here is okay, it’s not bad but not amazing. The cakes were a bit dry for my liking. What I hated the most was the service. If you want to dine in then do go during the week and not the weekend.
I asked how long the wait would be at the young girl at the register told me 20 minutes and took my number down to call me when there was a table available. I never got a call so I went back to check and there were new people sitting in seats. When I was finally able to talk to someone I said I had been waiting and asked if there were any empty tables and lo and behold there was one. Was pretty ticked off because there was no point in leaving my number. The staff definitely need to be trained better.
The matcha drinks are consistently good. So are these beer-battered chips. I often use outdoor tables so I can have my pushbike near me.
Really good Udon, hearty and light. Definitely use fresh prawn for sure, large and juicy. Good place to bring your Dog too, they let us have our meal outdoors to accommodate us.
Friendly staff, not much more you could ask for!
