Cathedral Range State Park reviews
58Spectacular view and exciting climbs. Make sure to bring a lot of water and supplies and prepare adequately in accordance to the time you spend there. Lots of beautiful places and areas to camp.
Scenic site. Suitable for camping. Very quite and serene. Public toilets available. Camping site with fire pit in multiple camping sites. You can choose to go on hikes based on your level of fitness. Be careful of going off the grid since there’s no mobile coverage. Nearest grocery store is around 15 minutes away to stock up food and water. Probably not suitable for families with kids younger than 6 years since there are no playgrounds to entertain them.
Lots of walking trails to choose, from easy to difficult. The views are incredible. Definitely worth going.
Amazing place and good camping experience for all of us. Only suggestion would be regarding maintenance of restroom.
Beautiful park, great signage but best to visit after a stretch of dry weather (or else bring along sturdy hiking boots with ankle protection). Also a 4WD would make the drive to the park easier. There were a lot of potholes on the road leading in to the park
Enjoyed a short walk there, the river trail. Was surprised by some kangaroos at the turn around spot. Little track inside the forest which then brings you to a gorgeous view of the hills. About 1h30 return walk from car park.
National park's entrrance is closed off - Whole of Park closure. (As of 19/02/2023). Please check Park's availability before visiting.
ー>Re-opened. Campsites accessible. (Checked 26th June, 2023)
A gem of a place. The hiking views at the top are splendidly unique. And you'll find tranquil water steams, beautiful scenery and intriguing wildlife on the way.
Loved this hike, it is challenging but well worth it! Did the grade 5 Sugarloaf to Farm yard camping ground hike. Bring plenty of water & snacks. Hiking boots make scrambling a lot easier too.
As of 7-1-23. The park is closed. There is a locked fence/gate on both main entrances (north and south), about a 3km and 5km walk retrospectively to the closest train start point. But if you happy to walk the distance, the trails are overgrown in parts but no signs of flood damage. Well worth the visit.
I'm at a loss to understand the current closure, on the gates it states the the roads and park has been affected by the current rain and floods, this is untrue, as non of the access roads and or hiking trails have been affected.
Very disappointed by Parks Victoria's constant unjustified control over areas that should be accessible to Victorian tax payers, it's a disgrace, and dispite my enquiries I can't get an answer.
WOW our 4 hour hike turned into 10 hours and ran out of water and daylight and had 4 cramps. Remember to take much more water than you need, a torch preferably a headlamp, and stay with the plan.
A beautiful state park with mostly well groomed trails. The walk along the ridgeline it stunning but also very exposed. Be warned The Farmyard campsite doesn't have much flat ground.
Beautiful place but please read the signs about the difficulty of hikes we had to rescue people who got stuck.

Some absolutely incredible view throughout the park. Would love to do a few more of the hikes here. Some very step and technical sections.
Fantastic to wake up to curious kangaroos checking out our camp at Cooks Mill. Clean drop toilets. Don’t forget to BYO wood for the fire pit! Great spot for a winter camp just over an hour from Melbourne.
Everyone loves the Cathedral ranges, and fair enough too! It's got ripper views and fun walks. Can be busy during peak times though.
Lots of walking trails to choose, from easy to difficute. The views are incredible. Definitely worth going.
From Cooks mill through jawbone car pack to sugarloaf car park took a group of 8 relatively fit and young people approximately 4 hours to complete. Recommend having a car at both ends because the Razorback trail requires some rock climbing. Definitely worth it. The views are incredible.
