Castlemaine Visitor Information Centre reviews
14The information centre is part of an art gallery. Staff were pleasant. Not a lot on offer. Parking can be a problem.
I'll be honest, I didn't realise this was a visitor information centre until now. Looked like a museum of sorts, and I enjoyed it as that!
The History of the Gold Mining day's, back in the 1800's was lovely to see at the 'Castlemaine Visitor's Information'. A beautiful display of Australian artists' paintings and Aboriginal art history, was also an unexpected delight to find. It's open 7 day's a week, so I suggest everyone travel to Castlemaine and take a look
One of the best examples of an info centre I have seen. So well laid out in such a beautiful historic building. A large selection of art on display by local artists and a separate section devoted to the history of the local original tribes (owners) of the Land surrounding the wonderful City of Castlemaine - Love ️ this area!
I don't usually rate or review information centres but this is a lovely one. It's an art gallery with art available for purchase in a beautiful old building.
Definitely NOT the place to go if you love your furbabay. Told by a local that I can’t take my dog up the Main Street. Interrogated by caravan park owners. I have a very gentle older whippet at 14 is quiet and just wants to relax as I do too. Told to find a pet sitter. In this day and age where things are difficult for all financially I’d have thought small country towns would appreciate patronage. Won’t be visiting this area again.
There's always something going on here every time we visit Castlemaine, especially on market day.
Great information on local event, Lots of maps, good range of local products, wonderful art collection
Clean tidy and covid safe. Nice big area, they have an art collection on show at the moment. The visitors centre has a lot of information and some things to sell.

I do not expect to walk into an art and craft exhibition hall. Besides walls of paintings, there are also craft, touring books, souvenirs and local produce.
The staff are very helpful, and not only provide valuable local knowledge, informative brochures and maps, but also where to find the best pie in Castlemaine.
Nice building. It is the start of some very interesting historic audio self guided tour that will lead you through the gold rush and different places of castlemaine.
Very helpful staff to be found in this old charm of a building. There is a wheelchair/pram access ramp at the rear entrance. Definitely worth a stop at the beginning of your trip to castlemain.
Very well displayed artifact of the aboriginal multicultural people who had the land in the historical days b4 castlemaine, so much to read about their memorabilia of all time.
Art exhibitions, Australian made souvenirs, lots of pamphlets and information about the local area, wines, walking tracks and places of interest.
