Cartel Coffee Roasters reviews
63 This has been my favorite spot for coffee so far in the city. I love that they take attention to where the coffee comes from me than any other cafe I've been to.
They show photos of the African culture where bean originate like Ethiopia. They have taste notes for each bean and country of origin and the staff are super friendly.
Bonus is that they are tucked in quer alley steps away from bustling hardware street and they offer wifi to get some work done which is rare. Highly recommend as is my favorite so far!
Note: because the cafe is open air you might have some small birds come up to your table haha.
Cozy, lovely little spot tucked away on Somerset pl. The ambiance is calming with it’s bright neutral coloured interior design and relaxing music. Down to the most important part… coffee! I paid $7.50 for an iced vanilla latte it’s only one size (looks like a small) however is well worth it for the high quality taste. Very enjoyable spot!
Love this little gem for a coffee break. Great coffee and excellent and friendly service. A definite when we come into Melbourne for the day.
Hands down the worst coffee I have ever had!
Hopefully mine was a one off and no one else experiences what I did!
Hidden gem. Great coffee. Love coming here when in Melbourne. Do yourself a favour and try it. You won't be disappointed.
Friendly, chill atmosphere, croissant was amazing.
And I also love their latte. I got it with almond milk.
Great food and coffee. Excellent service with a friendly greeting before I even walked in! Awesome photos.
A less that average coffee for a more than exuberant price, reading other reviews it seems the owner doesn’t take kindly to criticism so I’m going to leave it here. Go elsewhere and don’t waste your time
I had a coffee and a croissant on a Sunday morning with my friends here. I loved my coffee and croissant and I loved the atmosphere!
Chill vibes, good coffee, quiet nook in the middle of the city; everything a growing hipster needs
I had a few hours to kill on Tuesday during my recent visit to Melbourne. I saw this cafe and thought it looked like a good spot to have a drink and check some work emails. Asked the barista for a Chai Latte, but they'd run out. Fair enough, so I ordered a Hot Chocolate instead. When I got home I realised it cost $7! SEVEN DOLLARS for a hot chocolate. I also asked if I could use their wifi, only to be told they had no wifi. Which is weird because when I then tethered my laptop to my phone I noticed that there definitely was a Cartel Coffee Roasters - Guest wifi. Seems like they just didn't want me to use it.
Goes without saying that there other options in the area.
Decent atmosphere, was attracted to the fact that they served speciality coffee, however what was served was far from special unfortunately. In spite of the friendly service, the cappuccino and hot chocolate that were ordered were flavourless, bland and to top it off rather cold in spite of it being not busy at all. We sat through and finished our drinks since we hate to return anything that's been prepared. May have been a one off bad day, but I'm unlikely to return.
One of my first places to have coffee in Melbourne and wow they did not disappoint. A memorable cup of coffee and staff was so lovely

Melbourne
Ordered a dirty chai. Small size was $10 and tasted like a watery fart. Unsure if there was even coffee in it, unsure if there was chai in it, relatively tasteless. I never usually write reviews but this is honestly the most overpriced and blandest coffee I've had in my life. Unfortunately, extremely disappointed
Delightfully under appreciated coffee gem in the heart of the city! Serves a great batch brew with good vibes (and a hint of sass) whether for work or play.
Really friendly staff, not a lot of food options but the croissants are delicious. Coffee and tea amazing.
Pros:
- Hands down the best chai latte in Melbourne
- Great selection of coffee, craft beers and other drinks
- Friendly staff and great atmosphere
- Classic Melbourne alleyway cafe atmosphere
Cons:
- Honestly can't think of any. This is a great little cafe and I wish more people knew about it!
One of the most friendly, most welcoming, chilled Cafe I've been to. The coffee, service and the pistachio croissant: 5 starts! This is the perfect coffee break to have in Melb!
Excellent coffee, great service, free WiFi. Lex remembers his regulars and their orders. Is this the best cafe in postcode 3000? Yes
Went here on Saturday morning, since it's lockdown again in Melbourne. The guy who served us was very welcoming, and definitely enhance our 'coffee experience'. Helped to decide which coffee beans should we get for our best preference. Got the chance to smelled heaps of damn-good smelling beans. He definitely know what he's doing tho. Had the Columbian for my latte as well, surprisingly delicious with fruity notes. Thanks Cartel.
