Head instructor Ben Hall at Carlson Gracie Jiu-Jitsu in my opinion is one of the top instructors in this country. He has over 4 decades of training, competing and knowledge under his very worn out black (looking more grey these days) belt. This includes living, training and competing in Brazil with the esteemed Gracie family.

Ben runs an academy which prides itself on being a safe, fun, hardworking, technically strong, inclusive BJJ community with a strong focus on excellence. Which is seen by the consistently strong results his students achieve at tournaments, and in the manner in which they conduct themselves in and out of the academy.

Futhermore, aside from living and breathing BJJ, Ben is a generous community man who donates his time to worthy charities and causes. In particular the very important role of helping returned service men and women coping with the mental challenges after serving in the armed forces.

I've been a member of the Carlson Gracie gym since 2021. Ben Hall the Owner and head instructor is a fountain of knowledge and always willing to help out as are the other instructors. The gym is more of a family atmosphere than just a training facility. Everyone in the gym is so welcoming to newcomers and always willing to give some advise to make their starting experience easier.

Awesome Brazilian Jiu Jitsu academy! My two boys (5) & (7) have been training here for over 4 years now and are enjoying themselves considerably. The coaches that have been involved are a credit to Ben and the family environment he has created. After starting earlier this year Im the only white belt in the family now so will have to getty but into action. Onwards and upwards!

I've been training here for about two years with no prior BJJ experience. The quality of the tuition along with the friendly, helpful demeanour of all of the members really sets it apart from other academies. Ben is a fantastic teacher and a bunch of other black belts are always available to answer questions and break down techniques. Heaps of classes to choose from to fit your schedule, and a great atmosphere.

I have been training with Ben Hall Carlson Gracie for over 5 years, I have enjoy every minutes of my time here. I am not blessed with athleticism or great stamina, but Ben has always shown great patience in helping me develop and enjoy my jiu jitsu. I have been lucky and rolled at many academies in Australia and Brazil. This Academy is really top notch, Great people, a great atmosphere for beginners, intermediates and serious trainers. I look forward to training each and every night not only for the class and good techniques I am shown, but it is full of great people, no egos and a all round positive environment. There's a lot of schools in Melbourne but I travelled over an hour each day to train in the Carlson Gracie team under Ben Hall. Ben is a world class black belt instructor and the team is packed full of Jujitsu, Judo and MMA talent. A great daily schedule to train in, my Jujitsu improved by leaps and bounds in the two years I trained there. If you want good fitness and top level skills this is the place to train in Australia. We only live once - don't settle for 2nd best.

Yep love this place - really good crew all very skilled plus chilled. It is headed by easily the best BJJ (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu) instructor in Australia "Ben Hall" who was trained by and exclusively represents the Gracie family in Australia. This club is the only official Carlson Gracie club in Oz (FYI they are the family who basically invented BJJ and foundered the UFC).

After trying another gym in melbourne, I eventually settled on Carlson Gracie. I trained here for a year before relocating back to Sydney for work. Without a doubt the most friendly and relaxed e environment I have trained out of the 4 different academies I have trained in.
If you want somewhere informal, friendly, social.with very high jiujitsu standards, then this place is for you.
If you want to make some good friends then this place is for you.
I would only say avoid Carlson Gracie if you are the kind of person that wants to be training in a military style "Gimme 200 push ups! " type environment, or if you want a huge state of the art mega gym. Carlson Gracie is all about high standards, friendly and decent people and the sort of place that feels more like a club and less like a gym. Highly recommended.

Since joining this academy I've learned what it's like to have a bjj family. Great atmosphere, great people, great teacher.i couldn't ask for more.

After many years away form tranning BJJ, I have found at Ben Hall - Carlson Gracie Jiu-Jitsu a very good and health environment for me to return to tranning. I consider the club as my second home and my tranning partners as forever friends. The times/location suits very much my working commitments and parking is never a problem. I would recommend anyone else to come over and try the magic of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Its a place full of ugly boys (bad girls loved), pretty girls (bad boys loved) and above all, a very supportive environment does not matter your life circumstances.
