Carlos Cantina - Blackburn

We had a great night, the drinks, food and service were all excellent. I will definitely be returning.

Service and staff are great.
Food is absolutely disgusting.
No flavour, No seasoning, herbs spices etc.
We had several dishes and they pretty much all tasted the same.
This restaurant definitely doesn’t resemble a good Mexican dining Experience at all.
May I suggest you put your margaritas in a said glass rather than a soda glass.
Felt sick upon leaving.

I try to be very objective and impartial with my reviews. Nothing is 'personal' unless I specifically declare it.

WARNING - You can readily see that most of the other (5 Star) reviews are "placed" with many having no comment whatsoever.

There is nothing new about this venue and I'll qualify that below. Anyone rating the food as "Great", really needs to have a good hard look at their standards. (i'e, McDonalds makes a great 'authentic' hamburger - NOT)

Carlos Cantina is nothing more than a rebranding of the previous (failed) Taco Bills at this address. Even the decor is 99% straight taken over as was. They have got the chandeliers working though. Other reviews paint it as recently renovated - That's absolute rubbish. Exterior painted and renamed but nothing else.

I gave them a try tonight and was less than really impressed. Staff were mostly very friendly, but pretty clueless other than entering orders into the POS system.

The food was just very, very 'average' mexican fast food (aka Taco Bill). Rice was cold. Beans were the usual tasteless canned mush. Enchiladas were just a flat runny gloop of watery cheese and some sort of pureed meat. Corn chips though were excellent in themselves, fresh and crispy.

I had two Margaritas and despite menu threats that they included "powerful liqueurs" were both very watery and tasteless due to insufficient base spirits. $17 and $20 respectively. (I can buy half a bottle of quality spirit for less than that) Both also smelt decidedly quite tainted with some plasticky disinfectant smell.

Don't get me wrong - I respect margins and the need to make profits, but - why screw the customer after charging blue murder for a drink.

This formula won't survive 12 months as is. Its decidedly lack lustre in a competitive market. Yes in fairness - I've dined at Carlos in Croydon and their food was considerably better but the atmosphere was crowded and impersonal.

We had a great experience at Carlos Cantina, Blackburn. The food was lovely and the service friendly. Look forward to returning one day soon!

Been a fan of Carlos Cantina for years and have been to all venues now. This new venue is just as exceptional as Croydon and the original Boronia

Our local Mexican restaurant. Always friendly staff. Food is lovely. Quick and reliable service. Always a nice evening out.

My family and I have been to both Boronia and Croydon, and as soon as we heard Blackburn is opening, we rushed there and tried it out.

Seeing how it looks from the outside, I have to say it is not just bright and beautiful, but also inviting. The atmosphere is very warm and hospitable as soon as you go in, and the staff are as welcoming and cheerful all the time.

Food wise, well the signature Carlos Cantina food is always, to die for. I mean I’ve been to a lot of tex-mex restaurants, and Carlos never fails to compete against high end ones. And the MARGARITAS! OMG need I say more?

All in all, great experience, great people, great staff, great food, and great experience!

It was a very good experience for my Son's 40th Birthday. The service was great, very accommodating. The food satisfied everyone although I was disappointed in my meal sadly. I chose the wrong thing.

Love carlos cantina. One of my favourite places to eat and the frozen margaritas are amazing too!

We enjoyed a meal here with the family. Nice flavours and a step up from standard Mexican fare. We will come back.

Food was good but service was slow. It is a good Mexican food option if going out with family or friends.

If your over the age of 50 and don't like a good time don't go here. If you love a fish bowl couple drinks good food and atmosphere it's the place for ya! Me and the misso loved it. Good drinks good food. Phenomenal!

Very happy to see Carlos Cantina in Blackburn! Same great food as the other two locations yet this venue is recently renovated and has more of a modern feel throughout. Great place for kids, they have an extensive kids menu with colouring provided.
We had the classic nachos and chipotle chicken burrito. The kids had the cheesy quesadilla and taco and chips meal.
The staff were very lovely and attentive, there were quite a few people there but we didn’t have to wait too long for our food to arrive.
Cannot wait to go back to our new local!

As a Mexican I can say that this is the best Tex-Mex restaurant in town. I love it!

We ate here on their first night open and were really impressed at the quality of the food and the service! No idea what it takes to open a restaurant but we think you killed it and we will definitely be regulars!
